  • We show you how to build a DIY Dirt Bike skid plate using a cutting board. This rivals those you would spend more that $150 for, and it is just as tough, if not tougher! Follow along as we show you, what you need, and how to do it!
The cutting board used in the video can be found here.

You can also use HDPE sheets 1/4" thick by whatever dimensions you will need. I have found 16" wide by 30" long would be more than enough for almost every machine.
These are the clamps we used to attach to a frame, keep in mind these won't fit every frame, you may need to find something that will fit your frame more appropriately.

Use a 1/4- 20 nut, flat, and lock washer with this bolt. you may need to shorten the bolt depending on your application but, 3/4" long seemed to work well with a 1/4" thick sheet and counter sunk. To shorten the fastener use a cut off wheel and a Dremel tool.

I did this and then gave it a good smack and it snapped. Only one fin snapped so I'll see how it does on the trail but I don't have real high hopes at this point.

I found that reheating it seems to make it brittle.

What material did you use for the skid plate? I have abused mine pretty hard and I haven’t broken it yet. Maybe you got it too hot? I will make a follow up video to this with better instructions and footage.

@Ei8ht Up Industries I used a poly cutting board similar to the one in the video. Mine didn't last one ride through the rocks of southwest MO. Good Idea though. I think the heating is what made it brittle. I've since made one out of some scrap steel i had lying around in the shop.
