Making a Skid Plate for my DR650

- I've heard a lot of folks say that bash-plate (or skid plate) is an essential add-on for the DR. Makes sense. I felt it particularly important as I live on a gravel road and really want to travel gravel on this bike. I figured I'd try and make my own. Other than the not-so-good-looking welds, I'm really happy with how it came out and found it easier than I thought it would be.

I know you aren't planning on doing much hardcore offroad, but I found that the off-road oriented hand guards really helped protect my hands in cold wind

Handguards are eseential even for a wiff of offroad, you really dont want to smash your fingers against a tree + they safe your bars and levers as a bonus

Nicely done Jeremy! Always good to get some aluminum tig practice in. For my current bike I ended up making a skid plate out of 1/4” UHMW plastic, same as some of the off the shelves once but at 10th the price. Got the uhmw at norwesco off Blackfoot in yyc. If this one fails ya, another idea for a replacement. Super easy to form with heat to retain shape. Take care.
