- St. Paul had a widespread - if inglorious - reputation as a criminal safe haven during the Gangster Era of the 1930s. In this episode, Government Records Specialist Charles Rodgers shares several items from the Society's collection associated with that colorful age.

Minneapolis
My Grandfather was born in 1901 and lived in both Minneapolis and St Paul. He was a mechanic and I remember him talking about some of the cars he tuned. I don’t remember what he said though and was telling someone, I was young and my guess is that was after 1960.
I've just met the greatest people in Minnesota - and the best city folks anywhere. Of course I didn't know St. Paul in the 30s. 😂 Sending extra angels to everyone in your cool town.

The dude was in a federal prison, very sick. I know. Because they brought him to the hospital I worked at. He had zero quality of life near the end.
