Super Mario land gives you a coin for killing an enemy. The boulders that you are glitching due to them not being able to spawn are counted as kills. So each time he throws you get a coin. There are other points in the game that you can do this but they are so hard to do it’s not worth the single coin you will get. This is entirely because of hardware limitations.

2:30 I've seen playthroughs where it would seem some players have seem to manage to manipulate the slot machine. It seems like ALOT of work if they were using save states. I have no idea how they don't. Most lives i ever had in SMB2 was like twenty

I don't know if there's a way to do it in the base game, but it's used as an end troll in a bunch of kaizo hacks and glitch showcase hacks like the Brave New World games.
You missed a couple of good coin tricks. In regards to Super Mario 2: Once you get a cherry in the first spot, let the 1UP music stop. The second the roulette starts again, stop the first reel. It will most likely land on a cherry again. Also, timing it by counting "one, two, three" might get you a 2UP or 5UP. In Super Mario Land for the Game Boy: You forgot the submarine level. Collect the "MARIO" in coins. Get the 1UP hidden in one of the blocks after it, get crushed by the blocks (left side), and repeat.
I haven’t looked into it too deeply, but I think Super Mario Land 2 might just be a tad unstable with its memory. The excessive pausing is clearly overloading it, and thus kicking you back out to the menu, but it looks like it wiped your save data in the process. I modded a GBC earlier this year and goofed the install of its backlit screen. It can sometimes crash the game if I try to change the brightness while playing, and this crash often results in SML2’s save data being wiped. It’s the only game in my collection where that happens.
In the OG Japanese version of Mario 64, if you collect 1000 coins from bowser's breath will make it so 1-ups remove from your lives and deaths add to it.
