I had two barrrels replaced by the Warranty Centre for the FX9 Three out of battery firings was enough for me. Both the 10" and 18.5" barrel had severe headspace issues with only 2/3rds of the cartridge case being supported. The gun is now operating fine.
Hey brother. I have done a ton of research on your Raven issue. It appears to like be 100% barrel related. Everyone thinks gasing, but i found out that Raven received a huge batch of shit barrels and that if you replace the barrel all issue are gone. Barrel replacements fixed racking, bolt hold, etc. Everything is connected to the barrel issue.
Thanks for the comparison! I’m leaning hard towards an FX-9 now being right-handed. I was super excited to discover the Raven rifles until I started looking into them. I think the concept is great, but I’m really turned off by a few things. Paint instead of anodizing was the first flag for me, and then I came across the pricing scheme. The brass bulges and unreliability of your Raven are seriously messed up. What’s almost as messed up is the comment from @Lockharttatical saying “You need our tunable buffer weight!! Then you’ll be sewing!” I’m glad you didn’t get hurt and thanks for posting!
I wanted to see the comparison between these two that I’ve been looking at; FX9 and the raven…and I’m still not sure. I want to like the Raven but man there’s too many issues or concerns and for the FX9, I’d like to get the 10” but like you I’m a lefty and have the same concerns of gas and shells… As of now both base options start around $1500…not sure man. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
@@gustavohonzofo not yet. I gotta come up with a new plan and see if that works. Honestly after what happened and it blew the casing into my arm…I’m a little gun shy to shoot it
@@coulee-outdoors since you didn't break it down on youtube and I was new to the platform I didn't understand why it wouldn't run. If you are getting failure to feeds it definitely the barrel. I don't want to shill for myself but on a video I did about the conversion kits I give an explanation. Lockhart used a very dumb and antiquated design and the barrels don't have "enhanced feed cones". Mine happens to run good but 9 times out of 10 when you have failures to feed in ar9s/k9 or most pcc buffered system it's because of the bad barrel feed cone. Hope that helps keep me in the loop about what happens but I would be barking up trees to get it fixed.
Thank you for the video it helped me make my decision. I spoke with Sam @ raven pre release because I thought hey a Canadian gun like my Grey Birch LDR, he talked a big game and then asked for a deposit for a gun that wasn't to market yet. I was turned right off by his demeanor and arrogance, at the time he was asking $1400 CDN now they want $2500+ Pffff! From all I have seen on utube the Ruger for the money and service is by far the best deal out there, it's only knock is that it isn't an AR platform but it shoots and eats anything you feed it from what I have seen.
Glad to help. All I wanted to do is showcase my experience. I can’t say it would be replicated by anyone else. I have been happy with my Ruger. So far anyways. I haven’t shot too many rounds through it but so far so good
Man it’s breaking my heart watching you struggle with the raven. You gotta send it in. It’s not the raven it’s your raven. I’ve got 2 and they run flawless. The raven 9 won the national pcc championship in Nova Scotia this year. I’ve got well over 3000 rounds it’s not the mags cause it does it on all of them. It can’t be the buffer. So maybe the buffer spring? Something in the buffer tube? The machining of the bolt? The upper? Something is preventing it from cycling smoothly. Reach out to Sam at Lockhart and maybe he can offer suggestions of things to check. We gotta get this thing fixed for you. Don’t give up it’s an amazing pcc when she’s running properly
Man, it’s been a struggle and so frustrating. Honestly, I really really like the Raven. I like the concept, looks and of course that it’s Canadian. I mean, I was one of the first 500 people to preorder in February of last year. I’ve wanted nothing but for it to run. Keep seeing other guys having good luck and just wondering what’s up with mine. I appreciate your advice and comments. It’s nice to hear someone not bash you online for once! Much appreciated Sir!
@@coulee-outdoorsok I had a good think on this. 1 something is sticky and slowing the bolt preventing cycling a round into the chamber or 2 it’s cycling too fast and your having wicked bolt bounce. Not sure if this will work but maybe try filming yourself shooting in slowmo. See if you can see white the bolt is doing. Try pulling the buffer and spring. Put the buffer back in its tube without the spring and rock it back and forth to see that it slides freely. Then put the bolt back in the upper leaving the buffer and spring out and rock it back and forth seeing if the bolt is sliding freely. Next thing to try would be to slide a round into the chamber by hand. ( leaving the bolt out of the gun so there’s no chance of getting your fingers chewed up lol) it should be snug but not sticky. Or you could try to pull the barrel off and do a visual of the chamber with a light and magnifying glass. Make sure there’s no burrs or obstructions. Take a look at the feed ramp compared to the Ruger and the fx9 is the angle the same. Is it glassy smooth? Just a few suggestions I hope that’s ok. Good luck my friend 👍🏽
@@wildnorthadventures thanks for the advise. I had been thinking along the same lines as you suggested. Will do some more cleaning and testing. Hopefully I can get it figured. Thanks for the suggestions. Much appreciated
@@Lockharttactical I already have it. I changed it out part way through the 50 round test. Hasn’t changed the reliability. At first I had the adjustable buffer with full tungsten weights and then I switched it out to the original buffer. The full weighted adjustable buffer would lock back on last round so it was getting cycled well enough. When the bolt picks up the rounds it won’t fully feed. Seems like sometimes the round noses up and gets jammed. Will kink the live round. Or it will feed but not fully seat. I’m just really confused. Slightly disappointed. I really really want this gun to run! Any thoughts on what else to try? Thanks for reaching out
What a useless evaluation...shooting off hand...aaaaaa...wellll.. no real comparaison on paper..some rifles with muzzle breaks, some with scope....some with open sights....wow.
1. How are you able to shoot near water. That seems highly dangerous especially with the unreliability of the raven 9 2. If you're going to compare the fx9 with the ruger pcc compare the correct one the chassis ruger. That out the box is superior. Trigger, build quality and all. 3. The raven is garbage 🗑 if your gonna spend 2600 on a Canadian rifle, don't waste your time the tavor or cz bren 2 is a better option
Well. I’m at an approved range. So…gonna shoot where I can. I mean if I want to shoot my pistols I have to be at a range. I’m gonna compare the rifles I have access to. The guts of the Ruger is the same no matter what chassis. Honestly I don’t have much bad to say about the Ruger. It does exactly what it needs to do. I’m definitely struggling with the Raven. I wanted to support Canadian. I wanted to support innovation in their modularity. I’m sure Lockhart Tactical will get me squared away and ensure that I have a firearm that is running smooth. I definitely want to try a Tavor and CZ Bren. Just need a paycheque to go further than they have as of late. Thanks for your comments

You can feel the quality of the rifle by just holding it

JR Carbine for the win.
