Back in the day we had John Peel who was our guide and mentor. He was our God and he showed us the way to the promised land, or the next best thing to hit music and especially the Punk scene. I remember listening late at night with the radio under my pillow being educated and then talking to my mates about what he had played the night before. The only other way to hear bands was to go and see them live which we also did on a regular basis. I was lucky my parents bought me a radio cassette player so I could tape the whole show and in 1980 (16th birthday) my parents bought me my first record player and the rest is history. Sadly most of my early records got battered and played to death, however when vinyl died a painful death I did manage to replace many of them, I never bought into digital cos Punk sounds "crap on the radio" in digital. SO yeah I have all those records and many more besides and seen most if not all live, some more than I can remember. Sham69, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, Crass, Anti Nowhere League, Killing Joke, PIL, The Damned, Cockney Rejects, Mac Lads, The Exploited, oh man far to many to even remember without thinking hard or looking on the shelves behind me.

All great picks, and they are also in my top ten, but The Jam really weren't a "Punk" band, but they had the punk spirit, and were accepted by the first generation of punk rockers. Some other bands you might like, judging from your top ten list would be The Saints, I'm Stranded, (Technically, Australian, but the album was such a hit in The U.K. they moved there for a time) the first Ultravox album, and Pure Mania by The Vibrators. An honorable mention would be A Can of Bees by The Soft Boys. Although not officially considered a "punk" band they did have a punk sound, and feel on this particular album. Imagine if Syd Barrett never left Pink Floyd, and they decided to jump on the punk band wagon. That would sum up A Can of Bees perfectly. Another honorable mention would be Screaming lord Sutch and Heavy Friends. Believe it or not, this album has people like Jeff Beck, Nicky Hopkins, and others, and for something from the late 60s-early 70s, it sounds like a Sex Pistols album. One more honorable mention would be On Parole by Motorhead. Most people think of Motorhead as a "Heavy Metal" band, but this album proves that they were just as punk as The Sex Pistols.

    7. Discharge-Why?
    8. Napalm Death-Scum
    9. The Lurkers-Fulham Fallout
    10. Slaughter And The Dogs-Do It Dog Style
Some honorable mentions that can move into the Top 10 but would definitely be in the Top 20. Here they are 11-20 but it is tough to rank them.

    12. Rudimentary Peni-Death Church

I am so happy to see the inclusion of Wire which gets forgotten in the USA. I saw their show at CBGB's and they kicked ass playing new material . They had a group called Ex Lion Tamer that opened for them that played Pink Flag in song order. I would of liked to see The Vibrators, and 999 on the list. Great job I love all your choices. I also saw X-Ray Specs at CBGB. It was a great time to be young and in Manhattan.

Great album by the Ruts , I have an other ruts album which is more of a John peel session partly live. Then there was Ruts DC, recorded in 1982 , a very fun reggae, electro funk post punk album produced by Dub reggae leggend Mad professor worth checking out. It was a tribute to Malcolm Owen a couple of years after his death. Those albums by the slits and the Buzzcocks and stiff little fingers who were a mix of Catholic and Protestants United together which was impossible in Northern Ireland back then I own too. Gang of four is worth checking out. I have all the clash albums. Awesome.

Nice list but how can you leave out London Calling? So many bands including Green Day to REM have stated that album inspired them. Glad you put Inflammable material in as far to underrated, still touring, saw them last year and Jake has become a bit of a friend through a mutual friend who runs the SLF Fanclub over here. I have to agree with the below chap's comment also as Rattus Norvegicus is quality. I saw Hugh at a gig in St. Albans about 10 years ago and he is clean from the drugs but did we get pissed, cost me £60 in a cab home for goodness sake.

Some good choices here. Yes, SLF's album is a UK album, but the band is Irish. That said, Inflammable Material is one of my 10 favorite punk LP's. Absolutely extraordinary! In my top 10 are GBH City Baby Attacked By Rats, Cockney Rejects Greatest Hits Vol 1 and Leatherface's Mush. Leatherface is the best punk band of the last 30 years IMO.

If you look at the badge on Wellers lapel on The Jam album you’ll see it’s The Damned’s logo that was on Scabies bass drum skin at the time.....your re-issue looks a little printed dark so it might not be so obvious

I agree with the sex pistols and clash but prefer give em enough rope. And the damned but prefer machine gun etiquette 🤔 my top two albums are the ruts with the crack ( truly great album) and best of all is is stiff little fingers with their live album HANX.

Sorry not true most of the early UK punk bands were influenced by the Jamaican immigration to the UK of Ska and Reggae in the late 60`s early 70`s and was a combination of British mod and Jamaican Ska blue beat and rocksteady.
Most of us had never heard of the Ramones until Blondie broke through into the UK charts and we learned about CBGB`s.
That is why in the late 70`s early 80`s we had Mod,Punk,Reggae and Two Tone ska all in the charts at the same time.

Seen a few USA punk reviews, ironically the most commercially successful punk band in the UK were the Stranglers by a country mile. They were also the band with the hardest reputation. probably what goes against them is that they were incredibly good musicians but for me Rattus and Black and White blow away anything by any other punk band.
