    BTW, I bought my very first record the day after The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show I was 9yrs old in NJ in 1964. I'm now recently retired after 37 years of trucking across our beautiful country. Now I need to touch them after so much time has passed me by. So many of things you spoke of spoke directly to my heart. I have mostly Rock, maybe 500+ blues and some jazz. I could type for hours here, lol
    Be back later . Bob.

    I have that square of dead space between two record shelves too, and I also put mic stands and stuff in it- it actually works great for that! Thanks for the inside look, really lovely space.

    To any who might be interested in rescuing damaged vinyl, first step is to thoroughly clean the record preferably in a sonic cleaner. Next step is to try different shapes of styli. A spherical may sound better than either an elliptical or line contact stylus. Also try different size styli. Work with a good DAW in a program that has good restoration plugins.

    I love vinyl and am an audio engineer since 1966. There is hope for damaged vinyl. I've fixed many trashed records via digital technology. It works. If I had lots of money, I could have the fixed audio cut to a lacquer and pressed to vinyl

    You may have had to give up some of your collection because it doesn't 'spark joy' but I can tell that beautiful room does!
    You made a comment about it looking like a record store. I don't think that's a bad thing. I have great memories of going to Tower Records in San Jose, back in the day, and looking through the stacks.
    I do miss those days, although we have Silver Platters here in the Seattle area. They've been selling vinyl for a while. Fortunately, I still have most of the records I bought back in the day. Props to your wife for being part of the vinyl family!

    That is quite a set-up there, Eric...That looks like the most comfortable space to play records, have a drink and just hang out...It almost makes you never want to leave! It's like the ultimate retro mancave, my friend! If you sell some of those records at a local shop, they should put them in a special bin titled "The Vinyl Rewind Collection", so that customers who are channel fans can own a piece of The Vinyl Geek's personal collection!

    Very nice indeed.
    I considered using those type record dividers but instead simply went with manila cardboard squares of about 12"x13" cut from old record mailers with the categories (for example 'Spoken inc. Documentary, Field Recordings, Poetry, Instructional and Sound Effects', 'Experimental inc. Noise, Industrial, Art and Outsider Music' and for the big five multi-genre/generational acts who I happen to own a bizzilion records by 'Beatles, Bowie, Beach Boys, Bee Gees and Cliff + Related') written in a combination of biro and felt tip as it was infinitely cheaper.

    How amazing I find this just as I'm setting up THE MUSIC ROOM with my approximate 11 to 12,000 vinyls which have sadly been in storage(not cheap) for more years than I care to admit. I came upon this site to see if the CD copy of The Beatles YESTERDAY AND TODAY BUTCHER COVER is worth more than the $5.00 it cost me. It does have the small 6 on the back, something I learned actually means something just tonight by finding your amazing site. I have a thousand questions. I'll be back, BOB W. in North Carolina

    Holy cow, man! This is my absolute favorite of ALL your videos. I've shown my wife some snippets of your room in videos because it's along the lines of what I'm doing. I'm 68 and absolutely love mid century interior design - even before it became popular. And after decades, I finally built a 30x60 shop building, and took a 16 foot slice of it and turned it into my music room. Like you, I have roughly 3,000 records, and a thousand or so that I'll probably get rid of. I have lots of mid-century nick-nacks, furniture and hanging lights similar to yours.
    I've been trying to decide whether I wanted to go with a "white" room or go with a dark motif, using my vintage lighting (with LED's, obviously) to bring light just where I need it. Your video sold me on the latter.
    And another equally important part: For my main rotation I've been using a 4x4 cube Ikea shelf (you know the one), and like you, I really hate the records all being viewed from the side. I've thought about the "record store" type racks and, again, you've sold me! And I build stuff like that in the attached shop (now that I'm retired). And regarding the rest of it - the furniture, the bar, the wall coverings, I LOVE IT! I'm going for a bit different color scheme, but your room is a huge inspiration. Mine is placed on 32 acres in rural Kentucky (moved here from Seattle 11 years ago) and I got much of my stuff at Seattle estate sales before I moved. Anyway, well done!

  • @thedude4672
    @thedude4672 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's awesome, man. I'm jealous!
    I had to downsize my 3,000 + collection last year. Just tired of moving them with me everywhere and space was always an issue.
    I now have about 200, not counting my 45s or 78s. I kept only the most valuable records (valuable to me, though some are worth a decent amount of money). If I ever settle down and have the cash, I'll do something like what you did there. I love albums and 1970s decor.

    nada surf - high/low, donny and joe emerson. I jumped on those. only been collecting since January. modest 330. Not a great for my wallet getting serious about vinyl at this stage. the good part is everything's been reissued in the past ten years, it's just really expensive. Getting Shonen Knife's first two was a miracle, or Teen Generate - Get Action. Some real obscuro stuffs been reissued. The Stroke Band - Green and Yellow, Shoes - One is Versailles, Dolly Mixture - Demonstration Tapes, The Clean anthology box set. I'm going full discography for Fugazi, Minutemen, Pavement, Pixies, The Fall (pre/brix era) Mission of Burma. Keeping my hopes up for holy grails like Cap n Jazz - Analphabetapolothology, At the Drive-In. Fun Stuff

  • @RedVynil
    @RedVynil ปีที่แล้ว

    I just keep mine in alphabetic order according to label and then record number/release date.
    For instance, in the A's, once I hit Apple, from the first Beatles album on, all their albums are together in release order. The next non Beatles album after the white album is next. If I have more than one album by that artist, all of THEIR albums go together in release order. I've been putting my collection together like that for 63 years. The singles and 78's just go in alphabetic (according to label) and then numeric/release order no matter who the artist is on each one. Having over 60,000 records, this system has always worked well for me.
