FY……… Once you go past the maximum tolerance of .015 breakaway, The crush washer it’s no longer good and the seal will have to be removed and thrown away. Rule of thumb not to put a seal in until after break away is achieved

@@jeffklynch well I ended up talking about this to a mechanic I have used before and he advised to not do it myself because adjusting everything just right is tricky. He sent me to another shop and it turned out it was just a u joint. $110 out the door.

@@joeofalltrades3689 Sounds like you got lucky! The way mine howls, so loud now I cannot have a phone conversation on the highway, I just can't imagine it being a u-joint. Though, they are due for replacement as well.

Finally getting around to doing this, and for the life of me I cannot get the c-clips out. Going on 3 days. The axle shafts won't move enough to allow clearance for the clip to be removed. Any thoughts?

    • @joeofalltrades3689

@@jefflynch5663 when changing the rear axle seals, I used a telescoping magnet on the c clip. I then pounded with a dead blow hammer on the end of the axle (hub area). I think the clips just fell out at that point, but you have to rotate the carrier so they are in the right position to come out.

I love how you cut the video after attempting to remove the pin. Next time, remove the set screw, leave the pin in place and rotate the drive shaft until the LS is towards the front of the vehicle. The pin will now be 180 degrees from where you pulled the set screw. Slide it out that way as not to move your spider gears. I'm assuming that's what you had to do but you cut out that part.

Just a little bit of FYI and then next time you were doing this on the inside when you were trying to pull the axle rings off the inside by the spider gears you should have just used a magnet as you could have stuck a magnet in there and lift it up and pull it out both of them out really simply

Probably already done by now but also make sure the spider gears aren't moving with your c clips/axle when you hit it with the hammer

I got a question. Would a bent rear lower control/trailarm, cause differential problem?

i don't see how it could, granted an just a relatively experienced amateur, but that will likely be a wheel base related issue. alignment, suspension, ball joints, tire wear (uneven/wall). things of that nature, but left malfunctioning puts additional extraneous pressure on other components of the vehicle, which over enough time, will lead to extensive damages between the alignment components and suspension components. i mean, thats what i would deduce through my logic.
