    “No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that.” Such great reuse of a live from the first game when Freya is trying to heal Atreus.

    1:02:52 This scene is just so good. Incredible acting.
    The only thing I might've added is that when Freya was struggling with the last couple of roots, she becomes so desperate to get free that she starts searching her pockets for the first sharp thing she can find to help cut them. In her desperation the thing she would end up grabbing without realizing what it was is the mistletoe arrow tip that she took from Atreus earlier. She cuts the last roots free, breaking the spell Odin had on her. It would then be a few moments before she realized what she had in her hand.
    I just think it would be tragically poetic that she used the same thing to break Odin's spell on her that was used to break the spell that she had on Baldur. Maybe at 1:04:48 she sees that she has the mistletoe arrow in her hand, and then she says the line "I suppose this is the point where I forgive you or I kill you."

    40:22 This is the pivot. This is the _exact_ moment where you see the shift in motivation from Freya. This one revelation colors everything else that she says throughout the rest of the game, and I find it _incredibly_ compelling character work. Not to spoil anything later down the line, but if you ever find yourself wondering why Freya seems aggressively insistent on certain things, you should remember that right here, she learns the truth of Gröa's prophecy.
    Also, a reminder that Kratos writes the journey updates and the Friends and Foes sections of the journal. The Bestiary is written by Mimir. In the case of the Graðungr, the implication is that its entry was written after Kratos told Mimir about the encounter.

    1:06:36 I love how they constructed this scene here as one of the main catalysts for them reforging their partnership: understanding where the other is coming from. Kratos knew just the right words to say to de-escalate the tension here but he too can understand her unwillingness to forgive. I doubt Kratos would’ve been able to do the same if the roles were reversed. Freya can’t forgive and she can’t stop being angry….
    ….but if she can understand him, she can work with him.

  • @kristofferremmell

    Really enjoy the story in this segment of the game. The conversation between them is so emotionally charged. The fact Kratos is speaking so openly about the death of his daughter. His apology to Freya, not for saving her but for taking her choice. The emotional maturity of the character is amazing. Freya’s actor was also hitting such great moments.

  • @elianmaxzzz
    @elianmaxzzz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    41:16 I would like to highlight something about Freya and the prophecy of Baldur's death: The Norns specifically foretold that Baldur would have a "needless death" And it was. It could have been avoided if only Baldur wasn't the way he was, and it would have been avoided if he hadn't gone mad from not feeling anything for over 100 years. In the end, her love for her son condemned him, it was she who caused the prophecy to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. And that's where I find it sad and tragic.

    1:07:30 - How can the same character model of Kratos look so powerful in some scenes and so tired in others? It's insane. The sigh of relief he lets out here is so real. He did NOT want that fight again.

    • @qrowing

      Right?! Instantly thought of that scene from the very beginning, when Atreus says "start thinking like a general!". Kratos looks _so damn tired_ there. Feels like age is starting to catch up to him ever so slightly.

    1:08:35 If you really liked the Freya cutscene, I advice you to do the side quest relating to Freya's past, once you reach back to Freyr's camp.
    1:10:04 I understand that you people are more for the narrative and not combat. Don't be underwhelmed that you find combat challenging. I have seen people die more times on the Nidhogg fight. Most people are excited for big boss fights but I like it that you have more likelihood for the story. Take advices from the comments and they'll guide you through the combat part. The game has a lot of incredible scenes and story incoming and I'm excited for future videos.

  • @JustQuibbs
    @JustQuibbs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Well done! Congratulations on defeating Nidhogg!!
    This fight is very difficult, so don't beat yourself up about it. It is a unique enemy that introduces a new mechanic of the Sigil arrows. So much happens at the same time, it is hard to learn all the ins and outs of this boss. Watching other people play I am always surprised about how others got through it and even figured out things that I had not.
    Lore wise, beware...Nidhogg was just another innocent tricked by Odin to do as its nature commands. Nidhogg protects the roots which they see as food. And Odin abused this... remember it well, for it is a recurring theme. But equally important, think on what ones nature means.
    Edit: Just realized they said all I said in the Nidhogg entry you read near the end.

    52:17 It reminds me a lot of the Hounds of Tindalos, written by Frank Belknap Long, a close collaborator of Lovecraft. These "Hounds" (for lack of a proper word, as it only describes it's relentless attitude on the hunt and NOT his appearance) They attack anyone who performs a ritual to manipulate, see, or travel through time or other realities or planes of existence. Nidhogg does exactly that, unknowingly, of course, because Odin made a curse protected with the roots of Yggdrasil, a curse that is curiously related to the impossibility of visiting other planes of existence. Curious.
    Edit: It is a recommended read, although the books of Lovecraft and his circle can be a little difficult to understand unless they are reissues.

    @CptCelestialCarnage 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Took me a while to catch back up but I made it. Anyway:
    - make sure you actually know how the specific shield you use works! This game has a couple with VERY different mechanics, so read their description in its entirety. Very important for your current one: Every time you parry an attack it gains 1 charge (out of 2), first yellow and then red. These charges greatly amplify your shield bash. However, once your shield glows red, it cannot properly block or parry attacks anymore UNTIL you use the charge for a shield bash. Shield bashing after a parry is almost always the way to go with this specific shield.
    -please explore your equipment menu more thoroughly. You don't always realize when you've picked up a new piece of armor or an enchantment that could greatly benefit you! Also fyi you still haven't equipped Atreus' Jötnar Armor.
    -Skill Labors are simply extra challenges you can do. Once you've done them for a specific skill you can buy further minor upgrades for that skill.The challenges all start in bronze tier and then go on to silver and finally gold. You will most likely have done quite of a few of these challenges already.
    -Just buy new skills for Kratos and Atreus and make sure you know how to use them too! Armor isn't the only way to get stronger

    Kratos saying “No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that.” is an echoing of the same words Freya says to Kratos in GoW4 when Kratos apologizes for how he acted when he found out who she was. He starts to explain and she cuts him off; “No- You were right to distrust the word of a god. No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that.”
    Their relationship is so unbelievably cool, and the dialogue is just 🤌🏻 *chef’s kiss*

    55:32 I'm noticing an interesting trend of making a sequel to video games where they add: a) A purple damage type that has a secondary damage effect (massive damage burst, SPECIFICALLY) and b) An enemy with snake-like characteristics. I MEAN, If I had a dollar for every time I know this has happened I would only have $2 but it's amazing that it has happened TWICE. (God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West)
    Edit: I highly recommend the video games Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

    "He's weirdly modern"... (around 11:20) sums up my thoughts on a lot of writing that is starting to sink into Sony games... the tone is meant to be "fun" I'm sure, but it just comes across as jarring (and it gets more jarring as they try to make him into a character trope as the story progresses). I think this is one of the reasons I started to bounce off GoWR (as I did with HFW) - because I don't want my "bloody" Norse (or SciFi) characters to sound like they stepped off a sit-com or Holy-wood (sic) sound-stage. Also - it's not consistent, because some character dialogue is great - whereas a lot of the 2nd tier characters not so much. I don't think these are "realistic" games so I'm not criticizing that, but they used to feel self-consistent - rather than binge-n-cringe YA affairs.

    So - this isn't meant as a criticism - but just an observation of your banter (which I love)... but from 15:00 onwards, I just got strong drunk-streaming vibes from Cait... and that's not meant to be a negative, I mean it in a totally "relaxed and I have completely forgotten we're streaming" way - not a... I'm going to say some crazy [stuff] and just get wild with it. It says something about you two that you work so well together as a partnership; and it's so fun to watch. However, if she's totally off-her-noggin-drunk (or baked), then "well done" for keeping it clean 🙂 (and once again, I'm joking... if only angels could sing that well drunk).
