I knew from The Good Doctor and he cameoed in Black panther. Loved him in both. I really like his cadence. It's very unique. Like Giancarlo Esposito or James Spader.
The actor for Atreus actually had to come back a lot of times over the years between the last game and this one to re-record lines. He was going through puberty at the time too, so his voice kept changing, so lines he recorded earlier wouldn't match in continuity to the way he sounded in later recording sessions.
I absolutely loved that whole scene of thor and odin, with Thor acting like a mafioso and Odin with his perfect Don acting. The original Mafia is knocking.
One of the best video game openings I’ve seen. Immediately sets up the conflicts and themes between Kratos, Atreus, Freya, Thor and even Odin while keeping the action sparse and exciting. It hooked me like a fish from the start and I’ll never get tired of watching/playing it again and again.
For anyone wondering about Thor's appearance, in the mythology he is described as constantly feasting, drinking entire seas of mead, and with a barrel chest. Thor in fact devours two entire oxen at a feast and drinks a man sized barrel of mead in the old legends. I think it's a fair depiction considering these stories
And he's half giant at least in the games mythology as is Tỳr which easily explains their height, then as you mention his appetite explains his girth for a full explanation of why the guy is a physical UNIT! And justify why we could believe that guy is definitely the person whom which every single story Mimir told about him in the 1st game ended with him being drunk and killing someone and if not drunk still killing someone.
only correction i’ll make is lokis daughters name is just hel, just like the realm of the same name. same case with greek mythology, y’know hades in hades 😂
I absolutely *LOVE* the Thor fight in the beginning! From Mob Boss Odin, to getting absolutely bodied by this house of a man, to the best fake-out death in gaming, to the giant frozen lightning bolt, it doesnt let up until it's over and I love every second!
There is so much to dissect about that scene when Thor and Odin visit their home. So much is said about these characters throughout the scene. Like how Odin was only upset that Baldur was dead, because he was his best tracker. And the voice acting is so good.
Fun fact about Thor: He can actually resurrect the dead in the mythology. He uses this power as an infinite food hack, killing and eating his goats then resurrecting them from the leftovers so he can eat them again and again and again.
Thor's perspective of Kratos here is pretty consistent. Throughout the fight he seems increasingly insulted that Kratos is holding back against him and tries to push him into using his full strength. In the last game, consistently, every time Baldur threatens Atreus, Kratos swiftly overpowers him. The same thing happens during Thor's fight, where he says that Odin has plans for Atreus and gets rocked _immediately._ That force and intensity is exactly what Thor was waiting for.
Kratos didn't overpower Baldur at all. He used his full strength just to put him down temporarily. And he wasn't able to overpower Thor at all. only outsmart him
@@human3213 Baldur has Kratos pinned and sees Atreus' bed in the cabin, calling it out. Kratos immediately overpowers him, flipping him over and pounding him until the roof breaks. Baldur has Kratos stuck in a rock wall, then implies he'll interrogate whoever is in the home. Kratos immediately breaks free and lands blows that Baldur can't resist. Baldur sneaks Kratos at the bridge and stabs him in the stomach with a stone, momentarily disabling him. He proceeds to beat on Kratos and taunts him, until saying that Atreus is the one he really needs. Kratos immediately overpowers Baldur and smashes him into the gate. Baldur takes Atreus while Kratos is healing, and flees into the Temple to travel back to Asgard so the Aesir can attack Kratos at the same time. At the table, they have a minor scuffle in which Baldur manages to restrain Kratos and holds him back. He tells Kratos to let go of the Bifrost or he'll kill Atreus. Kratos begins to insert the Bifrost, Baldur tries to hold his arm back, and is immediately overpowered as Kratos breaks free and locks in Helheim. During their final fight with Baldur, Kratos is outfighting him at every turn even with Freya running interference by summoning monsters and restraining him. Baldur manages to pin Kratos. He then takes Atreus by the throat and... is overpowered. Again. Finally, during Kratos and Thor's encounter here, Kratos breaks free from Thor's grip as _soon_ as he implies that Atreus is in danger from Odin. It happens basically every single time. He didn't "outsmart" Thor in this fight. Thor even explicitly commends Kratos on his cleverness but says that it won't work on him when he tries to use a falling pillar as a diversion. Thor wanted a slugfest, and that's what Kratos gave him.
@@human3213 and that’s completely fine. It would’ve been fine all the same if they had made him as big as Kratos, but I’m judging I like that they did the opposite and went for the route of “What is this man capable of that everyone is afraid of him and this is what he chooses to look like?”
Yes! I'm glad I checked the comments first because this is what I wanted to say. It's a great observation, and one that I haven't made even though I'm about four playthrough's deep, which is why I love watching people go through these games for the first time. Also, very true based on what we've seen from Atreus.
35:43 "Atreus where are you?" Well, he did ask. Imagine if little boy Atreus had been able to do this power in the last game. He would've turned into a little angry bear cub. The cutest Rage ever. "I...can I turn into an animal?" Yes, he can.
My theory is that they're kinda establishing that Gods' dreams are very powerful, they can still dream for the same reason humans do (i.e. to work out some kind of complication or disturbance your thoughts are focused on) but like... It creates a space, like he stood in a real daylight pre-fimbulwinter iteration of his home, and stood before a real Laufaye, that it allowed Laufaye to sort of speak to him from beyond the grave based on what's going on with him. But that's just a game theory.
Thor: "C'mon, let the kid have a drink. I started mead when I was his age, and I turned out fine!" Kratos: "I have spent the last three years literally climbing over the trail of bodies you left in Midgard. 'Fine' might be a bit too generous."
Not motion capture, that for capturing the acting , motion and animation data. Probably some 3d scans of the real actors and some touchups to make the characters look somewhat similar to the game character, or a lot similar or just a bit different when creating their 3d model.
51:00 Thor - God of Thunder, Mjölnir's wilder, Son of Odin, Jörmungandr's Bane, Giant Slayer, Father to Magni and Modi, Brother to Baldur, The Strongest, Champion of Asgard, and Slayer of Frost and Flame. 54:35 Odin - God of Wisdom, Raven God, One-Eyed God, Grey Beard, The Living Ghost, Son of Bor, Grandson of Buri the Primordial God, Lord of Lords, King of Asgard, Killer of Ymir, The High-One, and The All-Father.
We can stan a defensive man while feral Freya is on the fritz. We don't stan a dangerous man like ballistic Baldur on a blitz. We might stan a destructive man if thoughtless Thor would be more nice. We can't stan a deceptive man until ominous Odin is put on ice. That was fun! How's that? I'm also thinking as excited as I am to follow your playthrough, be wary. Some Ragnarok comment sections have had people who just can't help themselves and folk may spoil some of the twists and turns as you go. The story is really good, so keep an eye out.
if anyone is confused abt thor's look, just up professional strongmen like eddie hall and brian shaw. This thor is STRONG, not just aesthetics and muscles like the MCU one
The barrels that the wolves sleep in near the lads’ home is the frozen boat dock from 2018. Also, when Faye says “there is much to do.”, she ain’t kidding lol.
Watching how much better Katie has gotten at this game is cool as hell. Going against Thor with no deaths is impressive. And I’m pretty sure no one like fully covered Kratos.
That punch that knocked out Thors tooth is the closest Kratos has come to using his full strength since his time in Greece. Even in the last game he never punched Baldur with full strength and even later in this game Kratos never goes full strength

I think there is a purpose for having the loved ones dying at the beginning of these games. It's to help us identify with and care for these characters. What I mean is Kratos and Atreus are gods. They have powers, which we're about to see on full display that none of us have. If we don't see them as people who can suffer and hurt with loss the way that we all do and we all understand, it will be very hard to identify with them as characters because they're about to do some unreal stuff that none of us will ever understand.
I know that in the end it wasn't just a bear, but I do still love the idea that a bear would be a full boss-level enemy even compared to literal monsters and magical creatures.
Kratos hiding is far more about him avoiding his responsibilities as a god than hiding from Odin, he wants to avoid him and Atreus being active in the community and taking life risking decisions as gods but that just isn't possible. Also Atreus going to war and potentially dying is his worst nightmare
Legit, almost cried at the beginning. It is such a testament to the GREAT acting that conveys such strong emotions and make you feel. Christopher Judge is incredible. ~ Cait
I'm only at the point of fighting *BJORN* so idk if it's seen later, but 1 of my favorite features of this game is that you can in settings or accessibility change it to where Kratos automatically picks up dropped items! So instead of if fights trying having to press O/X to step on health or rage stones just running over it automatically triggers the animation! Those enemies that drop like 6 things ehen defeated he just stomps, stomps, stomps 😂 and it's for all dropped items. Helped me a bit didn't have to always trigger the animation and when fighting close range and enemy drops stone he likely automatically picks it up.
The little glowing blue stone Kratos picks up is indeed the mystic keystone Brok and Sindri gave him in the first game. Atreus's marble is still on Atreus's person.

Sad fact: Atreus is the oldest child Kratos has ever had. His kid from his first marriage never made it to teenagehood. There's a mythological counterbalancing fun fact to this, but it will have to wait until you've gotten through the main game.
Odin is my favorite god adaptation this series has ever done. Odin in myth, when you remove the God title, is in reality a scheming wizard. All myths involving him doing something almost always has him use trickery and cleverness to win the day instead of outright combat. Also Richard Schiff absolutely bodies this role and imo doesn’t get enough credit for it. Very excited to watch your journey through this game. ❤
Despite how this version appears to be another Wizard... its perhaps not a surprise to learn Odin in his traveling guise as an old man with a large hat is one of Tolkiens main inspirations for Gandalf.
@@Outside85 That’s one of my favorite facts to bust out whenever people push back on me for this exact opinion. I’m pretty sure one of his many many titles is The Grey Traveler if I’m not mistaken.

Yes, I realize the sled wolves have names but when I saw them in the game's trailer, I started calling them "Cry" and "Havoc," and the nicknames kind of stuck in my brain. As in "Cry Havoc and let slip the Dogs of War."
Both Thor and Odin are pretty much as mythologically accurate as they could have made them in this game, even though in Norse mythology there is not much lore on how they looked. Just brief descriptions.
Many people, especially Marvel fans, think that Thor is a hero, that he is good, but in fact, in the original Norse mythology he is a cruel person, who kills everything in his path, even good people 🤣
He's kind of a Frat Boy; he can be your best friend one minute, but the next he's flipped a table and putting his fist through the radio cause his favorite song got skipped.
YAAAAAAAS!!! Bringing the heat to Fimblewinter, Ragnarök is here!! Enjoy the game and all that sweet goodness. You two planning to follow it mostly for the story, or to also do a lot of the collecting / side-questing??
34:52 OH!!! I'm not alone in this. Yeah, I think some of the human enemies look like models of previous characters. I thought some of the men looked like smaller versions of Modi, the younger Nephew of Baldur. Gotta keep my eye out to check if there are more similar ones for Magni.
On another side note. I love the distorted kind of low-bass sound you two use for censoring. No sharp beep. Very pleasant and kind of hilarious too. Great first episode, so excited to see you twos reaction to this part of their story.
Getting to hear about the lore and mythology from these games and their inspirations, respectfully, is probably my favorite part of playing these for an audience. -K

This game is amazing from beginning to end, the gameplay is way better in this one too
In the last game, you joked about Atreus turning into a bear. I wanted to say something so bad! :)
Love you 2! Game is much longer than the first so strap in for a ride!
YES! I’m so hype to see ya’ll play this!
This games opening never gets old 🔥
Yes, I realize the sled wolves have names but when I saw them in the game's trailer, I started calling them "Cry" and "Havoc," and the nicknames kind of stuck in my brain.
As in "Cry Havoc and let slip the Dogs of War."
such a game, you are doing pretty good with the shield actually, triy the r2, r2, r2 combo with the axe that one is new in this game
39:26 you can tell he thought he made the same mistake a second time
Get ready it gets better from here!!!! Won’t spoil anything but good thing are coming!!!!😉😉😉😉
Also, Thor's design in this game is very much akin to his design in actual Norse mythology!
My dream come true! You released Ragnarok today!
Just a request play all the side quests on screen for more stories & resources.🤗🤗🤗🤗
Am glad ti see yous have warmed up ti brok🤣 I platinumed this on give me god of war it was a challenge to say the least🙌🏴
Give me a God of War is literally Dark Souls difficulty, no place for mistakes, you repeat again and again till you learn the pattern. It's fun
Odin is like an Italian Mob boss.
Both Thor and Odin are pretty much as mythologically accurate as they could have made them in this game, even though in Norse mythology there is not much lore on how they looked. Just brief descriptions.
Caseoh Vs Kratos one of my top moments in the entire game
YES YALL FINALLY STARTED ‼️🗣️
Many people, especially Marvel fans, think that Thor is a hero, that he is good, but in fact, in the original Norse mythology he is a cruel person, who kills everything in his path, even good people 🤣
He's kind of a Frat Boy; he can be your best friend one minute, but the next he's flipped a table and putting his fist through the radio cause his favorite song got skipped.
I've been waiting all week for this 🤗
I have a dog named Fenrir and a hand tattoo for his namesake. That opening made me so sad 😭
Dang, the game didn’t think anyone would die there so they didn’t even make a cutscene for it 7:20
I know Christopher Judge is the voice of Kratos, but he almost sounds like Vin Diesel
Let’s fucken gooooooooo hell yea you guys are in for a great one and there is a special ending at the end
Lets go. Ragnarok and roll. 😊
Fun fact, the girl who plays Faye also plays in true blood and daredevil
you have a surprise every 10 minutes 😊😊
Word of advice: Keep tissues nearby at all times while playing this game. Lot of tearing up moments to follow.
You would be shocked just how BIG actual wolves are, you could mistake one in the distance for a horse
They’re massive! I love them. -K
39:25 Atreus, last game when told he is a god. "Can...I turn into an animal?"
EPIC foreshadowing.
Edit: I love you two remembering Atreus saying that!
On another side note. I love the distorted kind of low-bass sound you two use for censoring. No sharp beep. Very pleasant and kind of hilarious too.
Great first episode, so excited to see you twos reaction to this part of their story.
My favorite game of all time. ENJOY!!
"He's huge!!" " Oh he's massive!!!!!" I'm sorry, I was trying to resist but I just got to say that's what she said lmao.
Mob boss Odin and power lifter Thor are pretty accurate depictions according to Norse myth geeks.
Getting to hear about the lore and mythology from these games and their inspirations, respectfully, is probably my favorite part of playing these for an audience. -K
No spoilers. The scene with Fenrir is very important.
