Cats are good scavengers as well as hunters. That cat doesn't bother with the birds because he's being fed by you and other means I'm sure - be it other people purposefully feeding it or it getting into people's trash or raiding nests etc...
It's so funny (at least for me) when I'm not going for a challenge and I'm just playing something casually I do awesome but once I lay down rules for myself everything falls apart, like I've been trying to deathless all bosses in Dark Souls 2 and when I'm just playing casually I'm flying through the game but I the second I reset and try to go for deathless it's like the easiest bosses or sections just F with my mind and I die haha! Gotta love our human brains haha. Mitch for greater than's and less thans remember the alligators mouth opens to the greater of the two options, My 2nd or 3rd grade teacher taught me that and it's the only little tip (I guess you would call it) from school I still remember haha.
I believe that SMB3 has only two real flaws. One, Mario is really low on the screen when he glides down, making it really hard to control where you will land. And two, it's rare for secret areas to contain anything other than 1-ups, or coins that give 1-ups. One possible solution is to make either the fire flower or raccoon leaf common in secret areas, and rare everywhere else. Another possible solution is to change what coins do, maybe instead of 1-ups they could trigger a Starman like in SMB2 or SML2, or they could give 1-ups indirectly through a slot machine, also like SMB2 or SML2.
And each wrong turn while playing the game gives either coins or a half-starman. And the better turn would give you invincible powerup that is like the P-wing... But you also have Starman until the next level. Get even more lucky, and you'll also get one in your inventory.

The other cats might have just smelled the food, but there's a real chance one cat showed the other ones. If there's a cat without a home, they'll be fine. If you feed it, you're asking for trouble. Cats are good at a couple of things: sleeping, eating, manipulating people and not giving a shit about anything. They're the Pavlov dogs of bad behaviour. Don't teach them anything you don't want them to learn. Don't feed cats that aren't yours, and definitely never let them in. Birds don't really give a crap about cats. Cats don't fly, birds do. Even though cats will camp under a bush for weeks if they find a baby bird on the ground, they will rarely/not camp feeders. Birds warn each other at feeders. It's the worst place to catch a bird. My cat loves to lay behind the window, in the warm sun, looking at the birds, two feet away, and the birds see him at the same height as they are. The birds aren't bothered by him at all, but if I open the door to feed them, all hell breaks loose and the whole neighbourhood is warned that a dangerous ape is on the out and about. I can literally let my cat out and he'll drink from a bowl under the feeder and the birds will just continue eating. But if I dare check if the water is fresh the bird alarms go off and they'll all fly off to a nearby bush to hide in safety from my long arms and laser eyes. And no, stray cats are also not always hungry. Stray cats also sleep/rest about 20 hours a day. It's one of the reasons birds aren't scared of cats. As long as you can see the cat, it's not hunting. It's probably why they're not afraid of my cat drinking under them. Fun fact: doves and tiny birds ignore me when I wave my arms about, but crow like birds (some of which eat eggs and chase smaller birds away) instantly fly away. It's a great way to keep the fighters away while not chasing away the birds I try to feed and give a good home to.
