  • Hi All,
    In todays video we take the Leica M10 on its first real trip to Milan. It was also the first time I had used the Leica 28mm F2.8 Elmarit. A lens that in the end was perfectly suited to the trip! Let me know what you think down in the comments

    Very timely! We’re celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this July. We honeymooned in Stresa on Lago Maggiore, so we’re planning to head back there for a few days. Milan is the fly-in point (although we might take the TGV from Paris). Good advice re. Lens. I’ll probably take the x-pro2 on our trip. Been thinking about picking up the 18mm f/2. Its reputation seems to be going through a bit of a renaissance!

    I absolutely love the 28 mm focal length it is one of my favourites if not my favourite! I also love the tops of buildings as well throughout Europe and the architecture it’s just so beautiful and very different than where I grew up. awesome video and awesome images!!!

    Hey, I've just picked up my dream lens, an older version of the 28mm Elmarit (V3)! I've been shooting 28mm 2.8 forever on slr's but now I have it paired with my new/old M4. It's a killer combo for the way I like to shoot. Cheers!...😄

    You should go to Milan during Design Week, there are tons of things to do around the city with lots of buildings open to the public that are normally closed. The city gets pretty busy and you need to book your AirBnB or hotel early. I haven't been during fashion week, but I bet that's fun to do as well.

    Hi Goughie. I love the warm orangy colors in your Images. Your pictures in fact were so good that I chose to upgrade to the M10. Could you please tell us how you edited the Images? E.g. did you mix some more reds in? Thank you and cant wait to see images from your next trip!

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most are edited with “the daily” from my preset pack which does add an “S-Curve” to the reds in lightroom

  • @MarcWynter

    I had a similar experience just last week in Lisbon, Portugal. From your video, the architecture in Milan seems similar and I had a similar photographic experience. I took a Q2 and M6 + 50mm. 28mm was probably most versatile… especially if I wanted to capture the entirety of some of the structures. Occasionally, I wanted a 35 or 50 for some scenes but the 28 was the right choice. I struggled with the 50 when I took it out for the day and found myself focusing on details and people more.
    FWIW, the aperture ring on my 35 summicron asph v2 is the same from near new… a little looser than I’d expect but not terrible.

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie  ปีที่แล้ว

      28mm + 50mm is my favourite combination for sure! Interesting to know about your 35mm!

    • @MarcWynter
      @MarcWynter ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Goughie I usually try to take just one camera to avoid constant overthinking and lens/camera swapping. That’s why 35mm is really my Goldilocks focal length. It’s what’s usually glued to my M10. The Q2 usually comes out for family outings and travel where I might be in unpredictable weather (like Sao Miguel Island recently)

    For the ones just getting into Leica and wanting to save money. The Voigtlander 28f2 Ultron II will replace both this and the 28 Summicron. And you won’t have that problem with the aperture ring. Much cheaper also.

    Great video - loved the photographs! It would be great to get your thoughts on the M10 vs the M240. I have an M240 which I love shooting, and I particularly love the colours on it, but I do find it a bit big and clunky, especially compared to M6. It would be great to get your thoughts!

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m thinking I might make a video on it as a lot of people have asked, in short though, I’m enjoying the M10 a lot! Mainly due to
      - thinner design feels so much better, it’s only 4mm but to me honestly makes a difference, downside is the batteries are a lot smaller. I find that I need 2x batteries to last an entire day, I only ever had the one battery with the M240.
      Colour balance is more consistent, which means sharing SOOC JPEGs is quick and easy! The app also makes this super convenient.
      Highlights still frequently clip, just not as much
      ISO performance is also noticeably better!

    • @LetterBeacon
      @LetterBeacon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Goughie That's good to know -thanks! I see a few people saying there's a noticeable difference in the colours. Have you noticed anything? I think a video on it is a great idea! I've seen a few comparisons, but they often focus on obvious differences, like the ISO dial and fewer buttons on the back etc. I'd love to see a video where the shooting experience is compared, the output etc. the stuff that you can't really look up on a specs sheet.

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LetterBeacon the hard part for me is that I don’t have the M240 any more, so I can’t do exact like for like comparisons when it comes to images.
      Gut feel says there is a difference in colours, I seem to find myself enjoying editing the M10 where i didn’t with the M240. Really hard to describe though!

    I would love to try Leica M. I own a Leica CL Digital which I bought used for a very good price and I must say that the image quality blew me away when I started taking photos with it. Between a Leica Q2 and a Leica M I would probably buy the Leica Q2. I wear glasses and I struggles focusing manually. Plus the 47 megapixels sensor of the Leica Q2 is very appealing to me. You took lovely photos in Milan and your videos are pleasant to watch. Manu
