  • In this video I will be talking about the Leica M10 and why I think it's still a viable choice in 2024. The Leica M10 is a fantastic camera that holds its own the Leica line up. Leica are dropping an array of cameras at the moment and if you like me can't afford the newest of the newest I think the Leica M10 is a good place to get into the Leica rangefinder system. In this video I will be talking about the pros and cons of the Leica M10 and give my two cents on why I am still shooting on the Leica M10. For street photography and for portraits I am combining the Leica M10 with the Leica Summilux 50mm F1.4. So watch along if you are in doubt about which Leica camera to get into and I can maybe help you make a decision.

    There's not much stopping anyone from using the M10 forever, not just in 2024. The only obstacle to getting good results with the M10 is not knowing how to use it. And that addresses a side note you brought up: clipping highlights. That's not really an issue of the M10, the M10 does not clip highlights. It's user error. The M10 only does center weighted metering when not using the live view. And center weighted metering is difficult to use for most users. The center of your frame is always interpreted as middle grey brightness by the M10, so any drowned shadows or clipped highlights are a result of not understanding how the meter works and what was metered for. The M10 has a steep learning curve that way. I came from the MP to the M10, the MP's meter is the same, so my learning curve was not that steep.
    As for the battery life: I can do with one battery per day without live view. But yes, you need to spend the USD200 for an extra battery. As for the bottom plate: I love it. I know, unreasonable love, but still love it.
    Nice video. And you got some really nice photography!

      ah thanks for that I actually didn't know that? I am a center focus guy as well been shooting like that since I started my photo journey. And love this by the way! really appreciate you putting this info out there. I have also learned to live with the battery life, I only use the lcd when it's really difficult for me to see the focus lines. and thanks for the compliment! :)

      @@BobbyAnwar You can actually see how the center weighted metering is implemented on the M10. Take the lens off, look at the shutter curtain. The center section horizontally (grey, white, grey) is essentially a grey card for middle grey, the camera meters directly off the center part of the closed shutter curtain, not via the sensor. Only when you go into live view mode, other options than center weighted metering become available on the M10. The M11 is the first M to always read out the sensor all the time, allowing for all metering modes when technically not using live view on the rear display, or put in other words, the M11 is ALWAYS in live view as it always reads off the sensor. The main benefit of the M11 to most people is usability as with the M11 you can balance the exposure across the entire frame when using the rangefinder only.

    Sorry for the gear lost. That sucks!
    Really enjoyed this video and your thought process.
    The M11 is a dream camera, but to be honest in my current life situation I wouldn't use it daily to justify that price. I have to many cameras :D but for the M system I currently use the M9 and M6 and probably won't change much on that combo. Made my own video about the M9, since I got it for 1k$ with a corroded sensor, but I'm ok with it, since I don't do professional work with it and it is my entry into the M system.
    Keep up the great work! Greetings from Germany :)

    Dude the M10 is good in 2034 ha. In daylight the m240 and m10 are near identical image quality. That's what's so sweet about Leica.. they don't add convenience features and sell them as mandatory must have new tech.
    Amazing shots. The woman in the hat looking out the window is like quintessential Leica. When people talk about the "Leica look"... It's exactly THAT. Gorgeous.

      @BobbyAnwar  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hehe I agree :) I used to have a 240 too, the only thing I wasn't to happy about was the iso output, that's a tad better in the M10. And thanks!!

      @@BobbyAnwar Yeah I actually did a direct comparison of the M240 and M10 at the Leica store today and the ISO difference is crazy! I usually don't care too much but the gap was wide enough that I'm going M10 with my eventual M purchase. Anyway, keep up the good work 🙌

    Great video! I shoot with my Fujifilm X-T5 and my M3-DS. I love both digital and film but the price of the latter has forced to reassess the long term value a newer M-body can offer me. As the cost of film, film development, and film scanning continues to increase, the price tag of an M10 isn’t so bad. It’s damn expensive but the fact is that I love the rangefinder experience but would love to enjoy the economic benefits of a digital workflow.

    • @BobbyAnwar
      @BobbyAnwar  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear ya man, that's exactly why I made this video because even though the M10 is still relatively expensive I feel it's a great way to get into the rangefinder system. Also as Leica will probably drop more M bodies in the future the M10 series will continue to drop in price. I do edit the heck out of my pictures but I think the output coming out of the M10 is still viable. Especially combined with M lenses, and not only Leica but other M mount manufactures as well

    M10 is amazing and I am glad you got the chance to purchase it. But for starting out, in my personal opinion and experience so far, the M/MP 240 is perfect for starting out. Price, quality, and feel are all great. But by all means, if you can find a way to afford a M10/11, get it haha.

    • @BobbyAnwar
      @BobbyAnwar  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree with you, Even the M8 still holds up if you just want to start out, the M240 is also a awesome camera its just the ISO limitations that keep me off them especially because I shoot a lot in low light so for me personally its really important :)

    Love the history of leica. Love the styling of leica. If I high had more disposable income, I might risk getting a digital M leica with all their issues beginning with the M8. But they really need to solve their lockup issues with m11 and still haven't solved it with some of the m10 cameras. I would strongly urge people to stay away unless you have serious income that this wouldn't affect you. Any other camera manufacturer would have lost serious customer base by now with these issues.

    Sorry to hear that your gear got stolen. I switched to M10 from M8 after moving to Copenhagen, mostly because of M8’s poor performance at cold weather and also the lack of sunlight here requires good iso performance:) otherwise even M8 is still a stunning camera. At first I thought that a touch screen would be great but then i realized that actually physical buttons are best if you live in a cold climate and need to use glows all the time.

    • @BobbyAnwar

      Hey felllow Copenhagener! Yeah weather here can get PRETTY chilly! M8 is still a great camera but I would definitely prefer the M10 over it. And yes agree, I prefer physical buttons as well but it’s mostly because with a tough screen you can accidentally hit it 🤣 anyways welcome to Copenhagen and thanks for following along!
