This video will show you a few differences between the American Version (NTSC) and the European Version (PAL) of the Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift Racing Game for the PlayStation 2.
I have NOT USED ANY EMULATION SOFTWARE for this. I have 2 PlayStation 2 consoles which are not modded in any way. 1x Europe Version (fat edition), 1x US-Edition which was imported.
It's a huge disappointment that Honda is removed in the PAL release.

true. Also don't forget that there are 40 roll up racers to beat in the US version, while the EU version only has 32..
I can see that the PAL version looks better, the NTSC version has the annoying horizontal scan lines and is more jaggy.

@@mouratec Only real difference is the frames, NTSC is 60 while PAL is 50, this isn't really noticible anyway.

Some of the racers cars were different too, like "JDM Justin" and obviously Dizzy with the Supra/NSX. Essentially the US Version is better because it had more cars, racers/racers.

It's silly that the honda licence didn't pass up for the euro version...
I think it had something to do with honda's vision on street racing or something like it if I recall...

NTSC is technologically inferior to PAL the reason the pal doesn't look as good is becaue by this point most homes had widescreen where American homes didn't so theres a large cut off on the pal version in this and a squashing which is ruining the picture. i mean compare these 2 images of PAL/NTSC i1.ytimg.com/vi/q_QX6UGiGtE/maxresdefault.jpg PAL looks better.
ntsc has most fps
thats pretty much the only good thing with NTSC, PAL has hue correction and a few other better things than NTSC but most things are digital now.
THE most important thing is the fps for examlple when i played midnight club 3 pal on ps2 the game was slow and when I show video of the ntsc the game looks very fast
Pal has a lower refresh rate it wont make the game any slower
Its just the lazy american game coders they just port it over to PAL consoles and since pal has a slower refresh rate then the game itself is slower but overall if there are develop[ers who developed games for PAL then it wouldn't be a problem

Notice that Eat Bulaga Indonesia (Indonesia is PAL, Philippines is NTSC) uses 480i NTSC Resolution, converts it into PAL 576i.

In PSP there were no traffic cars, ever
All those saying that PSP version of F&F: TD has no traffic on the roads are actually playing on an emulator. You just need to change one setting which will cause the traffic cars to appear, although it seems they removed the bus and some colours of the SUV cars you commonly see in the PS2 version.

I actually think that the first race being a Supra is better, but I don't like the fact they removed all the Hondas.
am i outdated or mixed together or something? because i play this on my psp i cant see any civilian cars or the cars that are passing by the highway i just saw some on the aqualine but not on the races etc how come?
so this is the differences in PAL the camera move is a bit early when NTSC's camera move is bit late , and in PAL the camera moves when in NTSC doesnt and the car , yeah PAL = toyota supra , NTSC = honda nsx tuned.

Why both games have speed in mph?
That's just being lazy, the NTSC version has a heavily modified NSX as the starting vehicle while the PAL version has...a stock supra (aside from the NOS and rims)
Movies are 24fps but gaming benefits greatly from a higher frame rate. With FF on PS2, Pal is 50fps and NTSC is 60fps although both have slowdown. :)
It's not FPS, it's Hz, completely different thing. At Most the 10Hz difference translates to maybe 4-5 frames, not 10.

I prefer the ntsc version cauz im a huge fan of honda cars especially the nsx and the civic and the s2000 it's a shame the pal version doesn't have theme..

Genau wie in NFS Underground 2. Wieso wird in Europa Honda entfernt? Was soll der Schwachsinn? Mich würde es auch nicht wundern wenn es in Street Racing Syndicate auch der Fall wäre. Es gibt Bilder die belegen das es mal Honda gab.

+Jatworks Swirl Actually NTSC can suffer from sever shifts in colour reproduction due to chromatic phase errors, that is why NTSC compatible sets have tint controls to correct the hues. Although you may not have noticed it, especially if the set is calibrated out of the box. PAL also has around 20% higher resolution than NTSC, any loss of resolution is likely attributable to the game being developed in NTSC and then upscaled to PAL. Although there is a lot of history and science behind the 50/60hz thing the biggest offender to smooth framerates is bad optimisation. As someone who floats between the UK and the US I can honestly say that tv standards are far worse in the US. Although I do admit that higher frame rates can be better when gaming.

also, scan lines are too visible in ntsc version. look at the lights in road surface. visible scan lines. horrible.

pcworld88 On the PAL version, Honda was excluded from the game. That's why you start out with a Supra instead and also didn't have a choice to buy a Honda at the shop later.
The PAL version has no Hondas, due to licensing issues, so the NSX in the opening race is replaced with a Supra.

Bad/wrong made comparisation video! The NTSC version wasn't deinterlaced before, but the PAL version was (or was captured in native frame rate so the frames matched by random). That is the reason why there are horizontal scan lines in NTSC version.

MendezPresents it's easy to make a Supra an 800 hp car in real life. I love a v8 but they hardly make cars with straight six engines. So much potential.
