Absolutely gorgeous. Came to know this composer because of Liszt's and friends Hexameron transcription.

Not much in Wikipedia about this composer, who I have never heard of, before you uploaded this work. It is certainly able to hold its own with Beethoven's Triple Concerto.

I didnt know Pixis. Ive just read an article about him and, after searching, found this. Sounds like a medley soundtrack of silent old movies. Taking that old movies came after Pixis, maybe they have used his music as inspiration.

kolaboy Yes, it is a transcription of his 6th piano trio in f sharp minor, op. 139... The date of composition is nearly 1839

A charming work that is worthy of more than an occasional performance. Thank you! Can you tell us the year or approximate date on which this work was composed? Neither Wikipedia nor Grove's "Dictionary of Music and Musicians" gives it.

tedwilks If you are willing to believe this page, they assume something arround 1824. They also call a source for that information. Maybe you want to check that: imslp.org/wiki/Piano_Concertino,_Op.68_%28Pixis,_Johann_Peter%29
They state as source: "Mentioned as recently published in Journal général d'annonces des œuvres de musique, gravures.. March 1825, p.86 (so perhaps published late 1824/early 1825.) - Schissel"

it's a pity. I have 3 LP's with this pixis concerto. all the same. I think I know it since the 70s.
once I saw it on an internetside as original CD. for 30 pounds or whatsoever. when I decided to buy in spite of the amount, the CD was already sold.
Since then I never saw it as CD again.
      for LP just try eBay.
