Think Neo Think is right. I 've had this copy of 'The Secret of The Golden Flower" around for decades translated by Richard Wilhelm with Jungs Commentary with a preface by this guy named Cary F Bayne's.Jung and Bayne's.Apparently they both like giving this some psychological symbolic meaning and significance but neither of them have actually done the practice for 100 days.Thomas Cleary being the great translator that he was, i don't think he ever practiced this either . It's Zen Master Hakuin's Golden duck egg meditation for people with Zen Sickness that led me here. You know how one thing leads to another online ,right? It's quite fascinating too .There's even a zen roshi who leads you through the golde duck meditation which really blew my mind because you know as soto zen people say, there's no aim, no goal we just practice zazen Shikantaza. If there is an aim i think it would be refered to as the Dharmakaya Body or dharmakaya and not some subtle body to slip off into as Gurdjieff taught his followers on that need to attain that Kesjdan body which all seems to be something driven by an Ego based body, a raving need and attachment to some tangible entity and identification.Saying all that it would make sense if one is ill in some way to gather up ones jhanas and chi to help nourish the physical body from sickly body and mind to something as healthy as possible for as long as you are still alive in the body.I'm just speaking out loud, rambling here and probably causing my self some zen sickness.haha The literature of the great Buddhist sages do suggest that all bodies are impermanent. What goes up comes down whether it's form bodies in the human realm or deva and brahmin realms. This stuff is all relative though. As for promises of eternal life? I listened to the Gospel of Thomas recently and it spoke about creating "another body outside your body", which really blew my mind because I heard of it in this book first. Then I found it mentioned in other Taoist books as the Yinshen and Yangshen spirit body. So very interesting!
Having had good results from this practice I can recommend Thomas Cleary's translation with confidence. With all due respect to Carl Jung his introduction to the first translation by Wilhelm's makes clear the essentail understanding/experience to open the meaning of the SGF i.e., Awareness of Awareness was unknown to him. This is not the case with Dr Cleary and why his translations is so appreciated. Speaking of appreciation many thanks for your audio reading. As one commentar says they would have never read the SGF but for having heard your audio. 🖖
Another option by Sell: thesecretofthegoldenflower.com/index.html If found Cleary is a bit cold compared to Wilhelm and Sell, also he is not kind and compassionate in his attack on Jung, so Cleary seems to lack 'actual proof' of the benefits. Read Jung's commentary carefully, in one place he describes the visions too, independently of Wilhelm's comments and translation. Jung did well for the 1920's. Like most modern practitioners on the internet, he had his own public image, practice, and security to look after.
@@ianmccartney990 The SGF is not information, entertainment mood creator. It is precise guide for those that are willing to face the two principal dargons that make it near impossible to practice. Those few who do overcome the dragons immediately understand the neither William or Carl had any experience of mindfulness so it was impossible for them to understand awareness which first must be experienced before Awareness of Awareness (SGF) can be practiced. Thinking of the Breath as light and circulating it upward through the spine to the inner chamber in the middle of the head. Inhale up, exhale down. exhale down the inside front of the body, passes through the heart and back down to the Tanden (between the navel and pubis) and then back to the base of the spine and start over. This is similar to Kriya Yoga. This has to be done without strain.
@@mattjones6323 Yes, middle of SPINE, to middle of head, then down the inside front of the body back to base of spine (kind of curves backward to the spine) ....that's the Golden Flower method. inhale up, exhale down. If you were doing Kriya Yoga, you would stay in the spine, cold current up, warm current down all in the Spine. I don't know which technique came first, but there are about a dozen of these spinal breathing methods that came out of both India and farther east.
@@Streamwalker1000 and can you have eyes closed when looking at tip of nose? And then you focus on 3rd eye area with your mind and you try to keep your heart and breath quiet? Is that the basics?
@@mattjones6323 The idea is that when you do this breath circuit several times, it quiets the mind and breath. Your eyes should be closed during the breath circulation. After about 12 circuits, the mind should settle into the third eye, which is actually in the center of your brain, even though they will say it is in your forehead between the eyebrows. If a line in drawn from the middle of the brows back through the head and out the back, and another is drawn from just in front of the ear going across the head, where these lines meet is where the third eye is located. After running the circuit, we sit quietly, while letting the mind stay at the spot just described. Focusing the mind on the tip of the nose is only said because in Zen, the eyes are half open during meditation. With the Golden Flower or Kriya, the eyes are closed. After a time, when you get settled in the third eye and your mind has stopped, you will notice that you can't find your breath.....this is a very good sign. Also, the body may feel like it's made out of rock or steel and is unmovable, like a mountain. This occurs when Manolya, or stoppage of all though occurs and you are in a state of pure awareness within the now still body-mind. Consciousness is not thought, Consciousness is pure Awareness. Once you are in this state, your Consciousness will begin to travel within, and you will be in Samadhi....Mystic trance. This will take some time and effort to occur, but if the effort is persistent, steady and relaxed, it will occur. You are not your body, or your thoughts, not even your history and personal story. You are the Atman, and the Atman is directly from God. God is infinite Consciousness, and you are part of that infinity. Before each session ask God and the Masters to be with you and help you and the help will arrive. practice twice a day, more if you can manage it. Having asked literally hundreds of both Manderan and Cantonese speaking Chinese over the years it appears this ancient but eternal jewel from China is far better known in the West than in China and Taiwan.
Scouter Yes, of course I can do the translations and explanations. This article is well known only among Taoism practitioners in China. Nobody know who the author was. The author purported to be Lu Dongbing. Compared with other Taoism mediation articles, this one is straightforward, not encrypted into special terms, also easy to translate and explain.
Scouter It would be much better for you to visit some Taiwan or China mainland practitioners than merely read the translated version. Just remember, the golden flower is not that easy to be seen at the beginning, it may take several years for your lights to congeal into the golden flower, and the golden flower is just the beginning for the next stage.

@@RhythmJunkie , I would have to add an addendum to your post. And that is what you’re saying regards to simply an awareness of perception, what the Golden Flower points to is a Great Awakening, one that is not temporary. Your examples offer only temporary experiences. The Golden Flower meditation works better if you fill your lower dantien first with qi. This creates an embryo of consciousness that can move outside the body at will eventually. These practices eventually can make a person an immortal, or so they say. If this is possible, to become like a Buddha, we break the cycle of karma. And even choose to take on a future body at will at death. It’s very hard practice, if we don’t have a qualified teacher, and takes a lot of diligent work.
