  • This reading is from chapter 3 and 4 of the teachings found in the text, The Secret of the Golden Flower, and explains in detail the method of 'turning the light around'. Translated by Thomas Clearly. According to Cleary, this text is is a lay manual of Buddhist and Taoist methods for clarifying the mind. A distillation of the inner psychoactive elements in ancient spiritual classics, it describes a natural way to mental freedom practiced in China for many centuries. The golden flower symbolizes the quintessence of the paths of Buddhism and Taoism. Gold stands for light, the light of the mind itself; the flower represents the blossoming, or opening up, of the light of the mind. Thus the expression is emblematic of the basic awakening of the real self and its hidden potential.
    The text was written by means of the spirit-writing (fuji) technique, through two groups, in 1688 and 1692. After publication of the translation by Richard Wilhelm, with commentary by Carl Gustav Jung, it became modernly popularized among Westerners as a Chinese "religious classic", and is read in psychological circles for analytical and transpersonal psychology considerations of Taoist meditations.

    Sometimes in life you are ready for a teaching, sometimes not. Sometimes every word makes sense, as if stitching loose ideas into a whole tapestry.
    Today was one of those days for me, thank you for the gift.
    The pace of the delivery was exquisite, leaving just the right amount of time for ideas form and dissolve in the mind.
    Although the mind is indeed intangible, we can recognise it’s process. Ideas are created, sustained and dissolved. These energies are also called Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Yet as our awareness is able to witness this process and sustain its awareness in the void following the dissolution of an idea, realisation of this helps us realise we are in fact the super consciousness that lights the inner and outer world through the act of silent witnessing 🙏🏻

    Listening with your heart to every sense. Hear with your heart, see with your heart, taste, feel & smell with the heart. Turning the senses inwards while making the two become One. It also put me in mind of the Gospel of Thomas saying 22 - make the inner like the outer… an eye in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand. Beautiful.

    That is so weird (I say that a lot these days) I was thinking about my bioluminescent ‘Jack O Lantern Mushrooms that grow around this 300 year old Oak Tree that I have slept under every night for the last twenty years. Some people would worry about it because it looks kinda old and has a giant gash down the side from a lightning strike from 40 years ago. This last fall was a mast year (r(I’d never heard of that particular cycle) I love cycles)).Tablet keyboards are awful….blah blah, blah blah…..❤

    14:27 I have heard it said that, the word Atman has an etymology of the words “breath essence”, so I find oblivion is definitely helped by focusing on the breath, because as you say here, the essence is breath.

    If a person commits suic.. will that person be born again? Will that person go to hell?

    • @CVanWade
      @CVanWade 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      In some teachings it is suggested that you will be reborn into similar situations, depending on attachments. Ram Dass was one source of this, another SN Goenka. Also, there is a distinction between reincarnation and rebirth, where the first is like this personality or Soul carries on along a timeline, rebirth is one dream dissolving into another. If one correctly perceives what is being pointed out in teachings like this and other readings of Jayasara, the truth of your being will in time be what your consciousness is anchored to, not the play of temporary phenomena. Despair will dissolve, karmas will evaporate. I used to be suicidal. But i saw its futility.

    • @King311___
      @King311___ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@CVanWade what do you mean by “depending on attachments”?
      Karma means real action. How can there be any real action if every action is based on conditioning by society and is a reaction?

      I wonder at times, how one can live a whole life and not see the multitude of stratas and intertwinings between all things. Alas most make some connections, but we like to go deep!

    • @CVanWade
      @CVanWade 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Goenka pointed out there are different kinds of action based on volition. Like if a person stabs another with a knife out of anger and kills them VS a surgeon accidentally killing a patient with a scalpel during surgery. Both cases of people killing another with a blade, but the volition/intention is different. Yes there are social pressures, deep social conditioning regarding Good vs Evil, which is a mass of individuals with their own personal palette of conditioning. Your perception of Society and its Conditioning is a symptom of your own conditioning. This is a sankhara, or skanda. The Abhidhamma talks about these things in length if you are interested. Each individual will perceive the world differently depending on their own unique conditioning. This can be dealt with with spiritual practices, the variety of paths like all the varieties of snacks at the grocery store. Either way, each path is like a blade used to sever the Gordian knot of one's conditioning. Its going to require some initial faith, because it will appear as if you don't care about all the terrible things happening in the world, or aren't doing enough to address your own discomforts and prepare for the future. But all this one is reacting to is Samsara. A great reading by Samaneri Jayasara on this is 'Longchepa ~ Samsara is like an Optical Illusion'. Also check out Zen Teachings of Huang Po.
