    The reasoning behind the censorship is a bit surprising. Before you said what it was, I was sure the objection was going to be that smashing windows was something that children could imitate.

      YES - That's usually what Filmation would self-censor - But yeah, on this occasion, Skeletor's sheer will was reined in! :)

    Seems ironic since iirc in later episodes it was Count Marzo who was corrupting the youth of Eternia with those black flowers (with a different henchman from before to boot). I guess because he wasn't Skele there wasn't any push back?

    • @cerealgeekTV
      @cerealgeekTV  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, in this case, Arthur Nadel had an issue with Skeletor's sheer influence affecting the kid...rather than a drug-peddler, like Count Marzo - Also, oddly, that's actually Chimera alongside the Count in both He-Man's first and second season...for some reason Filmation just dramatically altered his look! :)

      Once in He-Man ("The Cosmic Comet"), and once in She-Ra ("Battle For Bright Moon") - It's like the "MYAH" thing you see associated with Skeletor in modern pop culture...not once did he ever say "MYAH" in the series...:(

    That's a beautiful piece of production art. Really put a smile on my face and I had a bit of a laugh at the start. When ever Skeletor says "No one will stop me not even He-Man.". He is just chancing fate. Cause as soon as he says that, yep you're going to lose. It's just something I see everyday. With people saying it's too quiet and 5 minutes later. Very busy. So it is something I don't say.
    I found the trivia Skeletor being censored absolutely fascinating. Especially the part "Skeletor is not the Devil". Wow that was putting across a serious level of dislike. About Skeletor's evil effect others and not even in direct site. Would have been a marvelous idea to use a few more times.
    So look forward to next week's.

      When I first got into the Filmation material I saw some of the fanbase say that She-Ra was actually the better written series, and the more I saw, I eventually agreed, and I think one of the many elements was that Hordak (who arguably was still a goofball) was still more menacing and we got to see more of what happens when he enacts his take over of Etheria in comparison to Skeletor. We see the horrible affects of his imperialism and colonization of Etheria, and even some really good episodes like Book Burning display how he can even use local politics and brutality to erase history and jail any opposition.
      Which fits into an ongoing advantage of She-Ra. Adora and her friends were rebels. They had to fight from the ground up and thus face more of a struggle against a horrible status quo. People just like to identify with rebels more than enforcers. That means more struggles and thus more satisfying victories.

      Plus the She-Ra series has one of the few episodes of a 1980s cartoon in which the villains actually WIN in a single standalone episode with "The Price of Freedom"...The Evil Horde defeats He-Man, destroys an entire village, with the villagers nearly being buried alive...

    Skeletor: WHAT?!!!!
    And thus a 'lamb' with a machete was unleashed upon the Federal Communications Commission and ALL parent's TV focus groups of the 1980's.....As a badly, cheaply made 80's horror flick. :D

    I wouldn’t go as far as calling that “censorship”. I would more classify it as pitching an idea that got rejected. That happens all the time.

    • @cerealgeekTV
      @cerealgeekTV  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If the script has been written, which it had, then that's a bit beyond the pitching process - As numerous Filmation people have said over the years, the company performed a lot of self-censorship...getting ahead of the problem before Peggy Charen and her ilk would attack the show for being too evil! :)

    • @Terminus_El_Camino
      @Terminus_El_Camino หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cerealgeekTV I get you, but again -scripts are commonly rewritten multiple times. For example, Harlan Ellison's "City on the Edge of Forever" for Star Trek had *many* rewrites before it finally made it to production. It wasn't that HE's script was "censored" per se, but the early versions did not capture the essence of ST or its primary characters. I've read it; it just wouldn't have worked. The people that own the IP get to determine how it is represented.
      However, I would say that Paramount has burned, stepped on, and burned again everything about ST that was good in their most recent shows on P+. So just having that authority doesn't mean it makes it better. There are lower budget ST fan films on youtube that I like a lot more than current Trek. Although some are downright terrible.

    Lord Zedd, from Power Rangers, had the same problem in the 90's. He started off as evil as heck, in the first few episodes, but the powers that be demanded he be toned down. And that robbed the character of a great deal of his potential.
