This was a good interview - not too serious, quite varied of subjects, and Ari's reverence for her was palpable. We're about the same age. Luckily I discovered her in the late 70s in high school when I read reviews of her book "Metropolitan LIfe." I read it at the time and loved her dry wit, with so many laugh-out-loud passages. So I feel I've known her all my life. I was just sorry that she famously suffers from writer's block and after her second book said she found it difficult to write more, though she's fine in interviews.

Now what news outlet is trustworthy and doesn't have a bias when a few people own all news agencies of world? Makes it hard for us to think for ourselves. We are operating on little truth and a lot of conjecture based on someone else's agenda. Scary.

I'm the same way, I know personally even when it stings a little or a lot, getting and focusing, to strip the situation bald, and focus on the secondary or third party perspective, of someone able to step back, and tell you what they see, hear, with out a personal attachment, is a wonderful gift.

I lived in Manhattan my first 40 years (1966-2006) and I used to see Fran on occasion walking on the upper west side (I lived off of west 65th), especially in Central Park often with other people or her dog. New Yorkers don’t bother famous people on the street as a rule, so the most I did was wave and say hello, or make quick small talk while waking. She’s always interesting. There are a lot of awful things I can say about New York, but it’s never boring, and neither are the people who live there. It always would make me laugh when I’d see Fran being cranky on a talk show, or read something she wrote that was cranky, because every single time I saw her she looked very happy and would give me a big warm smile that didn’t seem at all phony. It’s too bad she smokes cigarettes, I do worry about her health, and the world would be worse off without her in it.

@Blood Spatter So you are saying paranoid people are the ones with guns within reach. I grew up on a farm and we had a number of rifles in an unlocked cabinet but we never even imagined we would use them against humans. It is a paranoid fantasy for most people who carry guns on their person unless you have a specific job like security guard at a bank.

@Blood Spatter Here's a few facts to ponder.. The pandemic is making a comeback and the new variant is 1000x more contagious. 99% of the hospitalizations and 100% of the deaths are among the unvaccinated. Maybe when The Delta Variant finds you, and it will find you, you can shoot it with your gun. Yep, real smart not getting vaccinated, way too risky. Odd strategy for a guy who brags about being ready for bad things that might happen.

Kreek...what a BS bit of "WhatAboutIsm." Blacks (and other poor) "use" guns for survival in the underground jungle economy left to them, while they're largely shut out of the "white" economy of high-paying jobs many whites take for granted.
While I disagree with her blanket statement of "guns are stupid," the real point is Intent and Context, which you ignore with your "what about blacks" observation.
Many Trumpanzees think they're arming themselves to rise up against and "take back our government," so your apples and oranges use of guns between Blacks and Whites is a useless, 1-dimensional diversion.

Ari Melber is really a very interesting interviewer for Ms. Lebowitz. Courteous but also tenacious. He has a sharp, legal sort of mind (obviously), but is also quite culturally literate, and the way he sets up many of his questions - as well as the way Lebowitz responds to their intelligence and logic - gives the interview a kind of heft one doesn't normally associate with celebrity interviews, and I think allowed the discussion to go to more interesting places. So it was enjoyable on multiple levels - and how surprising is THAT?
