  • Known for her sardonic wit, social commentator Fran Lebowitz is a New York legend. A prominent liberal Democrat with a keen political eye, Lebowitz has been unsparing in her criticism of Democrats and Republicans alike. Who better to break down the antics of President Trump and the 2020 Democratic candidates with our Walter Isaacson? Lebowitz presents her take on the swirling political currents of 2020 and tells stories from her vibrant life, including her stint as a New York taxi driver and her experience interviewing the iconic artist Andy Warhol.
    Originally aired on February 14, 2020.

People who 'have lived' and 'seen things' make better decisions. The US is one of the few places in which elderly people are discarded and seen unimportant. I want to like her, but no, not going to happen. She has her points of view, but does't offer up reasons for her judgments. I don't care for folks like that. Not trying to be disrespectful, she's clearly a gem, but my first thought was "I wonder if she inspired Edna from The Incredibles?"

    • @Decktrio
      @Decktrio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edna is based on Edith Head who was a Hollywood costume designer... but there are definitely some similarities there!

    This reminds me of when I graduated from High School in 1965. I had every intention of going to college and becoming an Engineer. HOWEVER at my graduation party one of the gifts I received was a a metal lunchbox with a thermos. I thought it was a Joke. Nope....I graduated on a Saturday and the very next Monday I was working in a Machine Shop where my Father worked.
    I was making $1.50 per hour and with overtime I was bringing home $80.00.
    Every Friday my Mom would meet me as I came in the front door and she would extract $35 from me for room & board.
    Thankfully this didn’t screw me to the way my parents had lived their lives.
    My Dad died within a year and Now I was the Head of the household.
    Some Parents make a huge mistake in trying to decide or rule on what their kids become.
    I worked from 1965 until 2016 and I’m now happily retired at 73ys. old.
    I never did get my degree in Engineering but I chose a field very near to this goal and I enjoyed every minute of it.

      Explain how you became the head of the household, when your mother was that.

    • @michaelrief4424
      @michaelrief4424 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Sorry, minor semantics error. But I took over most of the chores like Cutting the grass, taking out the trash, basic maintenance around the house including two vehicles, plus. One thing I am most thankful for are the skills my Dad taught me which allowed me to completely remodel the kitchen including electrical, plumbing and new kitchen cabinets which I made myself.
      That Head of Household title is somewhat of a dubious title which really doesn’t mean anything until it’s time to file the Taxes and then the IRS tells you exactly what it means.

      Michael Rief enjoy your retirement, at the end of the road what really matters is if you lived a happy life, I’m assuming you did, which is rare now a days, read any statistics in suicidal and depression rate.

      Richard Henry Sr it’s terrible, policemen and firefighters should be paid extremely well, not to mention have every support they need, they deal with the most challenging scenarios one could think of, here in Florida you can see signs of recruitment for law enforcement everywhere. It’s just terrible.

      @Richard Henry Sr law enforcement officers are very high in suicide rates. The things they see and are immersed in are the very worst of us. They are the brave who go into situations everyone else is advised to run from. It is a heavy burden and takes a toll on them because they are only human. Also their families are affected. More than can ever be repaid. I bless them all even when they become degraded inside because most have heart and principles, they are human still.
