Glinda’s short dress is a living dream of how imagine Rosetta’s from Tinkerbell dress would look like if it was real. So beautiful, everything he designed it’s absolutely stunning
I LOVE this comparison. I wish they would make more Tinker Bell Pixie Hollow movies. They’re so fun and beautiful to look at. But yes, I think the costume design for Wicked is stunning. Whether or not the actual movie is good, I do think the costume, hair, and makeup departments will rightly get some Oscar nominations.
If they ever made a live-action Tinkerbell movie, they better hire this design crew, this movie had all the fun and magical elements one could imagine in a movie.
The pink ball gown is gorgeous but the Ozdust flower dress is jaw-dropping on screen! IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL, THE TEXTURE AND THE SPLASH OF YELLOW MAKES IT POP MORE I COULDN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT 😭😭
@@ILoveManCity. In the 1995 Wicked novel, Fiyero is an Indigenous prince from the Vinkus country (ie. the Winkies in the west) and is of the Arjiki tribe. Like all Arjikis, he is ochre-skinned and wears painted blue markings.
I sincerely hope that there’s a whole book published about the fashion/costuming of this movie, it’s absolutely (forgive the pun) spellbinding! It’s so lovely to hear how much The Wizard of Oz and all its adaptations have played a part in Paul’s life. His work here was glorious and gorgeous to begin with, but now we know what a love letter it is 💚
the cashmere and micro pleating was THE move. its so beautiful and natural, it flows so nicely in movement, its construction is so wonderful. they really went above and beyond on this
I was blown away in theaters by how beautiful and unique all of Galinda’s outfits were. Love the uniqueness and thought they put into Elphaba’s as well while also keeping it toned down to suit her personality.
I’m entranced by the way they worked the black to give it the same energy and spark Glinda’s pink garments have without making it about sparkles or shiny fabrics, everything she wore felt rich, smart and purposeful
I love her rose inspired ballgown. That one is stunning. But all the gowns are absolutely scrumptious. Clearly a lot of love went into creating these beautiful pieces of haute couture.
I mean this in the most respectful way: it looks as if it was taken out of one of Barbie films (not the Barbie movie, but the animated fantasy films starring Barbie). The top of the ballgown is giving me Fairytopia vibe. 😂

The quality of these costumes are insane. Wish Bridgerton would bring back this level of detail and quality. You can tell the wicked costumes are using natural fibers and **real** so clearly ❤ it’s beautiful
Paul and his team will no doubt win the Oscar for costume design. Every single garment that was produced for this film were thoughtfully and intentionally designed to reinforce who the characters are and support the story being told. Beautiful, beautiful work done by dozens of talented artisans that deserves recognition.
I’m old enough to remember getting DVD’s and seeing hours long behind the scenes making and creating of movies I love. This reminds of that time. I want to know how they did everything in this movie! EVERYONE did everything so phenomenally perfectly well when creating this movie!!! Bravo to all involved, you are REMARKABLE!!!!!
For those who have read the book, you know that Fiyero is much different. His skin is darker and his body is covered in blue diamonds. (They are tribal markings.) I know they completely changed him for the musical, but I was happy to see Jonathan Bailey in blue with diamonds on many of his outfits. It felt like a nice nod to the original character.
This is destroying me in the best of ways and it makes me so happy. Mushroom ruffles reimagined as lacing on her dress and bodice? And bubbles combined with the fibonacci sequence to make Glinda's dress and crown? 😱How are people this amazingly brilliant and talented?
Ofcourse it's gonna be green they need to know which color would look good on the actress and obviously Nessa's mannequin would obviously also be in a wheelchair for the same reason... There's no reason to be this dramatic and cry about it 😂
@@Nishanth_mementomori the point being is that both are custom - they are not the default so special care has to be taken to create these custom mannequins, which is evidence of an extra layer of thought and care in the production which is what the OP is reacting to. also most people are not a flat white color, even those who are classed as "white" so the color of the mannequin referencing the skin tone of the person wearing the outfit is not normally a consideration.
Well the wheelchair has relevance. She is disabled due to her mom digesting a plant. Then later her “ruby slippers” will be enchanted allowing her to walk. 😊
I know! I always feel like fashion should be the most inclusive medium simply because you really have to coordinate with the color, shape and mobility of the body, but then it quickly becomes the most exclusive medium because we as people have a wide array of different ‘canvas’ but not always the designs in place for all. Hope this costume designer and the team get some recognition, I was definitely getting a mushroom gills connection while watching the movie.
Paul Tazewell is such a legend, loved his work for In The Heights! For a film that could easily be packed with so much CGI, thrilled to see the majority of sets, costumes, effects etc are real! So hyped for this, can't wait! ❤
This is fascinating and a privilege to be able to hear his thought process as an artist, and how he chose to design and interpret the dresses for these very famous characters. I am extremely impressed with the costuming overall. Clearly, a great deal of time and love and creativity and haute couture went into designing these costumes.
I'm so happy the NYC Broadway production, beame open to and had Glinda to be played by a black woman. However, The fact that elphaba has never been played by a black woman until now, just makes it even more iconic! The story is the essence of black people and definitely black women for centuries! No one can truly connect to trying to be loved, and being marginalized, then trying to harness the power that they truly hold, and in that can come through the beauty of the music Idina has set over the years! They even gave her natural hair, and styling! Big ups to the Director, and the team!!!!
I could watch hours of these interviews. I love the behind the scenes from the Director, prop masters and costume designer process. They don’t get near enough the credit that they’re due, absolute visionaries!
