  • Catherine, David and Matt are live with special guest Pam Shriver to look back on Barbora Krejcikova's 6-2 2-6 6-4 victory over Jasmine Paolini in the women's final.
Apologies for the delay. We experienced some audio issues during the live show earlier so needed to re-upload.

Thank you Pam for mentioning the Eastern European bias thing. I've thought this for years. Certain players are seen as 'what are champions look like' they are usually Western European and by extension, American. Eastern Europeans get a lot of 'ooo, I don't like him', 'you wouldn't see Federer or Nadal doing that', 'Wish Graf would come back' chat at my local tennis club

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Although I was thinking "give Shriver the second 🍺!"

I agree about the crowd - I found it a bit disrespectful. Not that there's anything you can do, but to hear it so one-sided when a home player wasn't involved felt wrong. But Barbora Krejcikova beat her opponent and she beat the crowd. Was so happy she overcame that.

maybe wimbledon should allocate tickets for the final to proper tennis fans around the world
i think the crowd would be more split and just happy to witness a wimbledon final in the flesh

I agree with a lot of the comments about the sexism in tennis but Alcaraz is constantly asked about his smile. I think it’s one of the reasons people loved Federer - he wasn’t emoting or smiling like Alcaraz/Paolini but he looked like he was having a great time on the tennis court.

If Paolini played like she did against Navarro, she would have won.

I dont think that it is all about people liking underdogs. Was Federer an underdog? Were Barbora and Marketa not underdogs? It is not up to players to try to be more likable. It is up to journalists and people to learn to appreciate different personalities and nationalities.

Backhand list.. it was the bad second serve that helped make it a close game to begin with

Not amazing answers from Krejcikova? Novotná aside, Krejcikova says as little as possible in post match press conferences, as if only nominally fulfilling her obligation.

Exactly. The questions asked about Novotna are not sincere. It is disgusting.
