    The x factor that set the top 3 apart from the og next gen always was going to be mental stamina and the aptitude levels to get through to big finals and win slams. Tsitsipas, Rublev, Zverev and Kyrgios among others have way too many psychological issues and personal baggage that has affected the confidence and focus of ever standing a real chance of challenging for slams. Sinner and Alcaraz have displayed a Novak and Rafa like mental toughness which is setting them apart in leaps and bounds and are filling the void that the top 3 have left.

    Great discussion/ podcast! Danny Med has already had a fantastic career, unlucky not to have more slams and may yet win a few more in NY/Melbourne. Proper warrior and a seriously entertaining character whose interviews are always interesting. Still plenty of time for Zverev if he keeps up last six months, he is close right now. Tsitsipas has gone a bit walkabout recently. Feel like maybe having a time out mid career. Interesting to see what happens in NY. Alcaraz has lost in last two hard court slams to Zverev and Medvedev. Zverev took down Sinner in NY and Medvedev v almost beat Sinner in Melbourne final (lost perhaps partly because he was knackered from 5 sets with Zverev in the semis…in what was one of the best matches this year).

    Zverev has played his best French Open this year and his best Wimbledon, he overcame the no Top 10 player stigma there in the last couple of years and he's the most consistent of the lot apart from Daniil. He's still number three in the race and the highest ranked player without a Majors title. He might indeed not win a Slam but to say he's not consistently performing at the top of the sport is ludicrous also.

    • @matthewbailey6234

    • @jefftravis3808

      When did they say that? He's been consistenly a top 10-15 player in general. Though he was no great shakes in 2022 or '23. But still, what ppl really remember is how you performed in majors.

    • @dominikmuller5021
      @dominikmuller5021 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jefftravis3808 my point is this. There's really no reason to compare Zverev to the others (apart from Medvedev who has the distinction that he captured the number one the same year Zverev would've had a chance to capture it, had he not gotten injured.) Tsitsipas, Fritz and the others are simply nowwhere near there. Zverev has the most titles from Next Gen, he's been the most consistent, he's beaten Alcaraz at Grand Slam level twice (as recently as this year's AO). And I find it bizarre that due to the fixation on the majors his distant advantage over these guys is often overlooked. Let's also not forget he has the best h2h against Alcaraz and Sinner of the lot, as well as against the big 3.

    Before them were other brilliant 'never won a slam' players. Monfils, Tsonga, Dmitrov, straddled with Kyrgios, Tomic (two junior slams) and so many other absolutely wonderful players who just kept playing and, as Kyrgios said, 'I thought that ship had sailed'. Covid actually took out three years of their playing lives. They held up the other end of the courts in every spectacular match. They got stone-walled by the boring big three in every slam, rarely losing to anyone at a lower rank. Do you really believe they were not a part of the conversation? Kyrgios was part of the conversation for so many years, constantly seriously injured, constantly called out as if he was tanking, faking, but playing with pain because he thought that's what you do, finally unable to walk or hold a racquet. What did you do to those guys?

  • @jeanettemalherbe5946
    @jeanettemalherbe5946 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I agree with most of what you said. The only player tht will be better than the big three is Alcaraz. He has everything that makes a #1 player & imprtantly the mental attitude. The curent generation i.e. zverev, tstsipas etc have the talent but not the mental aspects of the game & they are at their peak now. Alcaraz & other upcoming young players i.e. Rune will be better thn they are now. He is still young mentally, Rune and needs to grow up.

  • @alexhunter7978
    @alexhunter7978 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Setting aside their slam count, look at their inability to compete on multiple surfaces compared to Alcaraz and Sinner! For example, none of them have been able to play on grass and you can't blame the big 3 for that because they lose to EVERYONE at Wimbledon. They really have a lack of consistency when it comes to all four slams specifically. Their lack of mental fortitude has also been dissapointing to watch. Carlitos lost to Novak in the FO semi's last year and bounced back a month later to beat him at wimbledon, contrast that to Tsitsipas who still hasnt gotten over his 2021 final loss level wise. So yes you could argue that the original next gen had slightly higher competition, but ive brought up just two examples off the top of my head as to why i also think that they are weaker players compared to the new next gen. Theres plenty more examples out there.

    • @sportslover2356
      @sportslover2356 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Kyrgios is great on grass but injuries have stymied him. His country always mocked him for 'fake' injuries so he kept playing through the pain and aggravating it instead of resting - Now he can scarcely lift a racquet. This lot hate him most of all for being a failure.

  • @Zeneroth
    @Zeneroth 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I think Thiem would've won more slams if he didn't basically have a career ending when he did. He was 26, starting his prime. The new gen is Alcaraz and Skinner. Those other guys are done. The rest might get scraps if these 2 and joker don't win it

    Even now Novak is a top contender. And Carlos is clearly the best now and Sinner a very close second behind Carlos. Once Novak retires, its a very easy road for Carlos and Sinner. Only Meddy can pose a challenge some days. The Big 3 had Murray and Wawrinka around as well. Carlos and Sinner have, at the moment not a lot of competition. Imo if Carlos can keep himself injury free, he can go on to break all records easily unless someone really good comes along.
