I recently started drawing poses that actually amaze me tbh because i finally started thinking about it in the way u said. It's not just about how a line looks but how it FEELS, such an important but easy to miss tip.😂
and glenn vilppu approach to gesture is really helpful for me cus other method is confusing for me especially when drawing hard poses, i do gesture for warm up everyday and study gesture over and over again gesture is the first skill i learned
Gesture has always been infuriating to me when learning art. This video is the first time the idea of gesture has really clicked for me. Wonderful demonstration of the 2 prokos
My problem is usually, that when I focus on exaggeration, my drawing usually lacks in clean lines and stylish shapes, while when I focus on lines and shapes, I almost always just stick to copying the OG.
I just found your channel and your advice seems really good the as a new artist I’m not even at poses I’m still trying to learn how to draw the top half 😅 so the next time I draw I’ll definitely input this into it.
The writer of baki is definitely a master at this. His poses have great weight and gestures to them, even when characters aren’t even touching each other.
I been noticing some improvements on my gesture drawings. Quick question: How long does it usually take to notice improvements on your gesture drawings?
That's going to be different for everybody so it's really hard to give an estimate. The best practice is comparing your earliest gesture drawings to your newest and judging how you feel during the drawing. You'll find yourself identifying the longest axis more quickly and being able to get what you want from your pencil much more reliably. It's just a matter of sticking with it!
Thank you for responding back! What you said is what I been doing so it shows that I’m definitely getting the hang of gesture drawing. I’m also studying shapes more and I’m wondering if you have any videos that combines shapes with gesture drawings? Also, do you have videos where you draw gesture drawings in perspective using shapes?
I think I have a lil adhd and I try to do all this mastiful skating ideas but then I get bored then go to details not even done with the sketch and that’s why my art looks bad
Thank you so much for this gesture recap video I have a problem with studying art whenever I feel like I’m getting better or my practice is going well I feel like I want to stop because I’m afraid I’ll mess up and get demotivated do you have advice on how to combat this?
This is a fairly common feeling! The progress that you make where you feel that you're getting better is real. Every new drawing is one step closer to where you aim to be. But learning is a process and we don't achieve it all at once. You'll make some better drawings that solve the issues you had in the past and sometimes, old problems will crop back up. I have issues with measuring incorrectly and other problems even now. The key is to keep working at it and not let one mistake stop you. You wouldn't stop at one really good drawing, so why stop at one really bad one? You've got this!
You can add one million details to a drawing of any style and it won't make it good. See Rob Liefeld. Drawing anime, fine illustration or even painting, and you still need a good basis to hang all those details on.
i can do the action lines and using cylinders in prospective but I can't do the gestures in the end I don't know were to start and didn't fine a good video or a course about it
Ima be honest i dont care one goddamn atom about the details of anatomy, i know other people might, but most people dont really care. People dont pull out a microscope or a magnifying glass, they use their eyes.
I identify as a bad Drawer, and you appropriating the stick figure the way i draw, is literally so biggoted, seriously? can't you all just let us in peace? #pride #stickfigcommunity
I think people connect more to the stick figures drawings! As a couple my stick figure vids;have many more views than my completed drawings! Folks just like the simplistic stick figure people! 🤷♂️😂🤣😂
"It's more about how it feels, not about how it looks"
This is a very helpful line ✅️
That's what she said
Not really to beginners. How do you interpret that to a drawing?
@@7792pnaurfri am a beginner and i animate with feelings its just the way i like it but I'm a forever beginner
Unintended pun
@@7792pnaurfrI agree all these flowery words like “how it feels” means nothing if they are not translatable to specific drawing skills.
I tend to focus on the little details, now I'm kind of moving away from that, so it's nice to see this video
There's always time for those little details later. We just have to make sure and get the structure right first!
Thanks! Finally and i was doing gesture just how i see and without action
My favourite artist when it comes to gesture drawing. Is Frank J Reilly. Love the flow he has. It's like harmony.

Thank you very much! My drawings kept looking so stiff and i was wondering why, this helped me out greatly! Your work is amazing 🧡
Man this advice is gonna be HUGE for my artistic development (once I find the time to draw again lol)
Same! (once i find the motivation again) :')

That's very helpful.
Very useful, thanks!!!
Thank you again!
yeah!
you gotta hear colors and shape.
:D
Draw what you feel -- not what you see.
Thanks for the tip 😊
Thank you so very freaking much
Anatomy is learned not because you need to draw it, but because you need to know how to draw around it.
Dude just told me i suck in 15 different languages

Ty for this!❤
This is cool! What if this and that concept really be applicable to illustration, cartooning and animation?
Who says I have the ability to identify the emotions of people around me 😭

Where can you go to find references photos like this to base anatomy off of?
Instagram or Pinterest tends to have those, also Proko sells the models photos afaik
Would you also apply gesture even when a person is standing still?
Is the person in the last 2 photos you cuz, DAMN, you're PACKING.
Damn, I thought you just draw a few lines then add details
What is that pencil?
Where do you find the poses to draw an exaggerated figure?
Nobody poses like that
Except in Jojo

In the beginning of this video, I thought "I should draw like this". Then I remembet that I draw anime which means nothing without the little details
