Great video and excellent tips for using the Kelly Kettle around children. I do have some suggestions for fire starting tips: - 1. Break your wood (fire materials) into pieces shorter than the width of the base. That will keep it from falling out. - 2. Since the kettle is designed to use any dry tinder, small twigs and pinecones will work best, as they burn quickly and don't tend to spread. - 3. If you aren't in a full wilderness/survival/bugout situation, "Match Light" charcoal briquettes make a good starter, as does cotton balls covered in vaseline. - 4. Canned heat (Sterno) also works and burns a long time. - 5. I make my own firestarters using sawdust, paraffin wax, kerosene, butchers twine, and cardboard egg cartons. Soak the carton in kerosene or lighter fluid and let it dry. Cut the bottom of the carton into individual "cups" and dip the outside into melted paraffin wax, turn them open side down, and allow to dry. This will help make them waterproof. Rub the inside of each "cup" with a thin layer of vaseline. Soak some sawdust or wood shavings in kerosene and allow to dry. Mix the sawdust into some melted paraffin wax and pour some of the mixture into each "cup", with a piece of butchers twine inserted like a wick. Once the wax has hardened, put a bit of vaseline on the wick to keep it dry.

6. One idea for the big fire: Don't throw away the cover for the egg carton. Coat the inside of the egg carton top with vaseline. Fill it with the a mixture of wood chips, sawdust, etc. soaked in kerosene (and allowed to dry) and mixed with paraffin wax. Once the wax has hardened, flip the carton cover over and "paint" the bottom with more paraffin wax, leaving a small piece of string (coated with vaseline) hanging out the side. Voila! Instant fire log. While it won't burn too terribly long, if set on a single piece of flat wood and covered with kindling, it will get your fire going.

I have a scout very good bit of kit, i tend to use a trangia spirit burner, or remote gas burner as they are more controllable.
Working on a top hat to retain heat, so you dont get covered in soot and smoke, while doing slid fuel, not bad seam s to work, just need tweaking a little.

Still proving it out, but basically two bean tins with a slot cut in one side.
Next part a diffenent tin with both ends cut off locate it together.

Thanks for the video, love watching people use these, they are the most multi use camping stove for the size I have seen, I have one of but have not had the chance to use it, i am however going to try using charcoal from my slow combustion heater, or heat beads, like you would use in a Webber kettle BBQ as fuel for longer term cooking, & possibly also with a heat damper/buffer under the cake tin eg a terracotta pot plant saucer, I think this with the beads maybe better for baking, by giving a more consistent gentle heat for the thin pan, but also reducing the amount of ash produced by the sticks , cheers

They are great fun and luke you say, multi-use (utility). That's a good idea with the charcoal. If you look at my Fire Maple Maverick video I used heat beads. Is that what you were intending to use?

I didn't find it any easier or harder to light than any other stove. But when this kettle gets going, it really roars and heats the water up rather quickly. When using the base and the hobo stove only, it's like a Firebox in that you have to be on the ball with keeping timber up to it and of the right gauge for the situation whether it be gentle grilling or cooking bacon & eggs on a 12" spun steel frypan.
I have the smaller trekker on my list for more compact portability.
I love seeing the look on people's faces when using the Kelly Kettle. People's natural curiosity takes over, and the questions start flying.

I’m going to test it with an alcohol burner too which should be interesting 🤔- for those many mornings of damp kindling but also to stop the blackening. Time test against gas is the aim too 👍
