Wait! Hold up! You left your camera behind! 😃
Thanks for the thorough review! Regarding the handle-mounts, I wish Kelly Kettle would make a folding "double-D" handle like those found on many cups and pans, and this would make for a one-handed pour AND you could pick up the kettle without the comically complex two-handed ritual required to prevent your hand from being right above the chimney. I opted to get the Petromax iteration, as this has the folding "D" handles AND a threaded bung so that the kettle can serve to transport water in your pack.

Haha I know, I've lost so many cameras through this 🤪.
That is a fab idea,I must admit, I've caught my hand a time or two with the way the handle is now. I really like that idea. Cheers for your comment matey 👍

Mine just arrived in the mail. Got the basecamp model "ultimate" kit, so it has the hobo stove, the cooking grate, pot, plates, cups, etc. I probably don't need all that for myself if I'm using my mess kit with the kettle, but I figured it would be good if I went camping with friends.

I have a Trekker model with the hobo stove and pot stand. I've used it car camping but I'm taking it on my next canoe trip. It is a bit bulky when numerous portages are involved but this upcoming trip only has one portage. so I thought I'd take it along. Most of my cooking is a fresh steak on the coals the first night, then my own dehydrated meals...maybe a breakfast of some eggs and bacon, but basic cooking requiring mostly just boiled water. Your video gave me some ideas. I subscribed. Cheers from Canada.

    • @AntSurviveTheNight
      @AntSurviveTheNight  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Prospector, yeah, a smaller size that one too isn't it so you should gain a little space with that model then matey?
I do get you though with tge portage, it's the bulky items you really get fed up with after a while on a trip but it all sounds like a great idea when your planning it at home in your chair haha!
Sounds like the perfect trip though that mate, one portage! That would do haha but seriously though the places you have over there look amazing! One day I hope to get there buddy.
I've just got into dehydrated meals on my channel so stay tuned for some ideas pal, and if you have any, please email me the recipe, and I'll be sure to shout you out!! Thanks so very much for the sub, I really appreciate it.

Thanks, great video. I've been using Kelly Kettles for years. Have a few of them. One tip is to stuff the chimney full of sticks (fallen birch twigs fallen are best), then add water and place on the base with a small bit of tinder burning. Gives you some time to take in the lovely scenery.

I've recently purchased the ultimate Scout kit on sale, wasn't fussed about most of the extras but wanted the pot support that can also be used to raise the fire base off the ground. Amazing piece of kit I'm loving it, I mainly bought it for coastal kayak camping but have used it on a few day hikes too. Thanks for your videos that guided my purchase mate they've been invaluable 👍

I'm really glad you're enjoying the Kettle pal.

Very ingenius device, k have o e too. Tend to use spirit burner with it as its more controllable.
It works different from other kettles, from top down rather than bottom up.
Looking to make a slight mod, to retain heat, if not cooking on the top, so you dont get covered in soot and smoke.

First ive seen of the kelly ketttle. Definitely a nice bit of kit. I wonder, though, can you use the pot stand, hobo grill, whatever it is, on *top* of the kettle? It seems like you give up the rocket stove/chimney aspect of it otherwise. Maybe there's no real jeed, but it seems like a lost opportunity for more efficient cooking.

I purchased a Ghillie kettle last year just before the winter price hike with the intention of using it if we had power and gas cuts which never happened thank the heavens ( mind you I did have my portable gas stove with enough gas canisters to last the whole winter my meths trangiant stoves again with enough fuel to last quite a while and my Mk 2 Swedish paraffin stove with a couple of gallon of paraffin) I think I had enough to survive 😀. I can't wait to try out my Ghillie kettle hopefully this year . Your carry handle lugs if you wish you could streathen them by getting some stainless steel folks or spoons from the charity shop 10 P upwards cut drill and bend them in to shape and then solder them in to place with a specialist rod you can obtain of ebay or Amazon the only other bit of kit you need is a blow torch up 1100 f Jobs a good en . Enjoyed the vid Ant as always.

It's good but too big for me. I'm using the trangia mini all the time now. Definitely a good item though!

@@AntSurviveTheNight I checked out the smaller ones so definitely would go for a trekker and pot stand. Just need to find a way to make it sound like it's a good purchase to the boss..

Hi mate, depends on the fuel really. Your good to go if the weather as been dry but in this video, everything was either wet through or damp. It soon heats up though and evaporates the moisture fast! Thanks got commenting, Ant
