    John, thank you for yet another fantastic video review. I too have had phenomenal success with the Toxic head. They fly great and the penetration is awesome especially when compared to how much cutting it does. I think a lot of folks look at the end view and that is a possible deterrent in picking them for hunting. The blade angle itself is what I look at. I really think the curve blades are extremely strong and that gap between them truly works as an advantage. I shot a buck last season square through the scapula and it exited through the middle of the upper offside leg bone. Completely devastating results as the deer only went 40 yards and that was even going down hill. The blades did get damaged, but again, devastating results with a red roadway of a blood trail. I would love to see a comparison or a review of the Pharmakon. I will gladly send you some if you give me a mailing address 😉

      @@LuskArcheryAdventures Good morning Sir, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. You have a pack of the Pharmakon and a pack of Pharmakon XP on the way to you. I am especially looking forward to seeing the performance on the XP version. I shot these last year only at targets to check flight and was very impressed. Something worth mentioning in regards to sharpening these along with the Toxic, I took 1500 and 3000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and rolled it up tight to about pencil diameter and sharpened all three versions. That gets them SUPER sharp. Thank you for your work in the videos. I really do enjoy them. I will forward the tracking information once they send it to me. God bless and have a good weekend!

    • @justaguy7997
      @justaguy7997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@turtleman5111 Hello sir! I like the Pharmakons, I used both versions for target practice and they fly like laser beams. I used the XP version on a doe and the results were nothing short of stellar. The shot was almost perfect 90 degree shot from about 20’ high, completely zipped through the ribs. She went twenty five yards, fell over and was done. The blood trail was incredible starting around the 10 yard mark. I have to say that I have been thoroughly impressed with these and the Toxic heads. I know they look different and are different from every other broadhead, but the damage they do is just crazy. I was skeptical at first thinking that penetration would suffer due to the total cut length of the blades, but I haven’t been able to see any difference from any other fixed blade heads. I have used many different broadheads over the last 30 years and most have done quite well. I sharpen every single head I hunt with no matter how they come out of the pack. THAT is a huge factor in my opinion. You can’t expect good results otherwise. I remember using broadheads years ago that I just assumed were sharp enough and the results were really varied as to blood loss. After sharpening to my liking, I have seen great results even with smaller cutting heads. If you put a sharp broadhead in the right spot, it really does the trick. There are always going to be differences in every shot through an animal and more often times than not, subtle changes in results. I will admit that I can sharpen the Toxic heads easier than the Pharmakon heads. They both take time and a little effort, but the results are worth every second it takes! Good luck dude!

    @MrWhiltetail 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 4" of cut is actually a weakness in my mind because the main enemy of a bowhunter is bone & you don't want 4" of cut surface when going through bone or you will have terrible penetration when you hit a shoulder & you don't need 4" if you put the broadhead where it is supposed to go. A standard style broadhead is a better choice.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good comment. If you have the momentum to drive it deeply, it could be good. And it's flex steel keeps the blades from breaking fairly well--but they do get nicked up quite a bit.

    • @mikecredeur7941
      @mikecredeur7941 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know this video has been up for a while but the blades getting destroyed is actually by design. The spring steel is designed to open up as it engages bone to allow the broadhead to actually go through bone easier. If the loops would stay closed it would be very difficult for it to pass threw with such small gaps in the circles. Now as the circles open up there is less resistance. Hope this makes sense as this is how it was explained to me by flying arrow archery. They do penetrate very well from what I’ve seen. I’ve had several customers take large hogs with them and get complete pass thrus on 200-250 lbs pigs. Very impressive on pigs that size.

      It's to test the outer limits of what a broadhead can handle. Just providing data points to consider as you're comparing broadheads. Like I say in each of the vids, you can decide which data points matter to you the most.

    I have shot 4 deer with these broadhead and never had one go more than 40 yards and blood trials a blind person could follow. The deer I harvest last season was a 35 yard shoot quartering away from me, was a complete pass through. I am shooting 65 pounds and a 31" draw. I would never use another broadhead.

    • @JohnLuskOutdoors
      @JohnLuskOutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do test sharpness, in two ways: penetration thru a uniform medium (rubber foam, MDF, and gel) and edge retention thru steel. Any head can feel sharp out of the package, but that means zero. If it dulls after hitting hide, it won’t help at all. Initial sharpness is not nearly as important as retained sharpness during penetration. Sharpness will be revealed in the penetration tests and in the heads ability to retain its edge in a hard impact.

    • @JohnLuskOutdoors
      @JohnLuskOutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      KTMsoldier1988 Yeah I tried those heads as well. Shot a Javelina with one and didn’t even get a pass thru. I had sharpened the blades but they’re so cheap they lose their edge immediately upon impact.

    Please include better close-ups. Three or four feet from the lens isn't close enough to help us see what you're seeing. I'd have to see that broadhead impact bone, especially at an angle, before I'd get over my skepticism. Do you ever do an angled impact test?
    When you shot the steel, it punched a big hole - true enough - but it STOPPED. So, maybe it knocks a big hole in a rib, but if it doesn't pass any further through, none of the potential wound channel benefits get realized. And as others have observed, sharpening looks like it would be difficult.

    • @richardswett8458
      @richardswett8458 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are absolutely right. I have not had success with these at all. Four Whitetails just ran away, never to be found with next to nothing for a blood trail. Perfect shots at 30 yards were a waste of an arrow. As far as the plastic bag test, an arrow without any tip would drain a bag. Save you money and pass on this garbage.

    • @JohnLuskOutdoors
      @JohnLuskOutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Swett The bag test is a really good one to test the wound channel. Of course a field point would drain the bag, but it would take about 10 seconds. Watch my other vids and see the time it takes for different heads to drain the bag to the line drawn on the bag.

    • @JohnLuskOutdoors
      @JohnLuskOutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to do angled shot tests but they were completely useless; every fixed blade head did very well with them, as did 90% of all mechs. The close ups would help, but I can only do so much with one camera; I’ll try to work on that in the future. Thanks for watching.

    • @evanwindom3265
      @evanwindom3265 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnLuskOutdoors That's interesting. Were you doing the angled shot tests with heavy, high-FOC arrows? I've seen plenty of heads of various descriptions fail those tests. I'd rather see that test than see them fired at steel or cinder block. But hey, thanks for doing the videos anyway. I realize you'll never be able to come up with a testing regimen that pleases everyone.
