One of the dumbest popular narratives out there is that the Warriors just weren't on the Cavs level and that's why they got KD. If that were actually true, then people wouldn't call it a choke job. Since how do you choke if you're the way worse team? These the same people who called Steph, Klay and Draymond bums but also call the Warriors a Superteam lmao. You can't downplay them but also at the same time use them to hype up LeBron's legacy.

Anyone who was around in 2015/16 should know that the warriors were heavy favorites in that series. No one thought the 73-9 warriors needed KD to beat the cavs. They were always the superior team. That's why everyone freaked out because it made them completely unbeatable.

It took playing Curry playing the worst he's ever played up to that point of the season, the Cavs making the greatest comeback in NBA history, in that game 7, Lebron making an all time block and Kyrie making an all time 3 for the Cavs to barely squeeze out that championship win. It was run by Curry haters(aka LeBron fans) after the 2016 finals. It's like the Schrodinger's cat paradox , LeBron fans ran with this narrative that LeBron beat the greatest team of all time and made him the goat but at the same time they also said the warriors needed KD to beat them in 2017 and 2018 , how's that even possible? How could you call a team the greatest team of all time then say they needed KD, and it gets even crazier when you look at all the stuff that happened in 2016 for them to win in 7 games from draymond suspension, bogut's injury, Barnes being useless to curry re-aggravating his MCL...

The Warriors weren't fully healthy in 2016. Steph suffered from a MCLsprain earlier in the playoffs, Iggy started suffering from back problems in the Finals, and worse of them all Bogut, there only rim protector that swatted everything coming near the bucket in that Finals, has gotten injured in the middle of Game 5 and never returned, which allowed Bron and Irving to get to the rim on command. You have to understand that Bogut's injury was the turning point of the series as his absence cause a lack of a real rim protector, which made others have to overhelp on defense in the paint and caused players like Iguodala to play more than they like.

I genuinely think, most people in the media didn't think the Warriors were good, and thought they were only truly good with KD. That's why when KD left and the injuries happened everyone and their mums were calling it the end. I watched the Warrior's entire season in 2020, and not a single so called analyst talked about how good the Warriors were in 2015 and 2016, and barring injury they could return. It was all because of the superteam with KD. It was then I really understood that these people either don't appreciate or don't understand high IQ basketball, or are paid to talk trash. Most people in the media, whenever they praise Steph, there's always some kind of knock, or caveat. Very few people truly appreciate or think that Steph is a top 10 all time player, which is crazy given how much he has achieved with what was available to him. Like, how do you build a dynasty when your core is #7, #11 and #35 in the draft? People penalized GSW for recruiting KD, but LBJ pairing up with #1 Kyrie and #1 AD is fair game? People called the KD warriors a super team and unfair. Look at the Cavs man, LBJ #1, Kyrie #1, Love #5, Thompson #4 .... But GSW's ability to build what they have isn't great to many people which I find really surprising. Apart from Wiggs who was known as a bust, Warriors don't even have a player that was drafted higher than #7 until 2021.

Curry has the highest career true shooting percentage of any high volume scorer in NBA history (over 20 pts per game). This is a gauge of his brilliance, and to translate it into simple terms it means that a Curry shot yields more points than an MJ shot, a LeBron shot, a Shaq shot, a Bird shot, a Kobe shot, a KD shot.......in short, Steph Curry is the most lethal offensive force in NBA history, and there is no one else even close. Top 10 is absurd - Curry or LeBron are the only intelligent choices for GOAT. Bear in mind that the game is always evolving and that players today are selected from a global pool vastly larger than that of players in the 80's. The media really doesn't want Steph to be the face of the NBA over Lebron since Lebron is widely considered the 2nd greatest player of all time. If Steph were praised as highly or more, then Steph gets put in the GOAT conversation alongside Lebron and MJ.
The media gives Steph as little respect as possible to not look completely stupid (they still fail at this). E.g. They'll say Steph is the GOAT shooter because there's no debate. But anytime there's an actual debate for his all time ranking, then they give Steph the least amount of credit compared to other superstars. E.g. They highball KD's ranking based on his limited accomplishments, there's literally no way ESPN should've ranked KD higher than Steph even before this chip. They lowball Steph's accomplishments as much as possible. Now they say he's top 10 because you basically sound stupid if you rank him lower. But that's his all time ranking floor, not his ceiling. His current ceiling in debates is arguably top 1-3 and Mt Rushmore.
Wade put Steph on Mt Rushmore. Ja Morant put him top 5. Iggy said Steph greatest PG. Remember, Wade was already a champion who then played with prime Lebron (on Mt Rushmore) and won more rings with him. He is putting Steph on Mt Rushmore with Lebron because he recognizes Steph is on that level. Magic is commonly considered on Mt Rushmore and people are starting to realize Steph is better than Magic.
Steph is pretty much the GOAT offensively. Thinking Basketball did a vid on this. And he's a solid defender, despite the media narrative against this.
Steph will eventually be in the GOAT conversation with most ppl, especially as advanced analytics continue to develop and are able to properly measure Steph's impact on his whole team's winning. I believe JimmyHighRoller did a vid showing that Steph has the highest % of added wins to his team than anyone in history. Lebron is #2, and MJ is #3. People will realize over time.

Its not like the Cavs dominated them from the get go in that finals. They woulda just comeback next year and probably retool with some new players even if they dont get KD. But when KD is available ofcourse its a no brainer i woulda take him no matter what and then keep our important core players and some bench. It took a suspension of Draymond to turn the tides of the series, That was a momentum changing moment in history. I want my team to win and as a GM if i can get a superstar player to dominate i would get him and upgrade our lineup so that we would be unstoppable. i wouldnt care what nayone says, we are winning championship and your team isnt. I love KD as a person and I think he absolutely gave everything he had in 2019 for the Warriors. However, this notion of KD was needed for the Warriors to win has to stop. This is so stupid The only reason that the media refuses to admit or even entertain the possibility that KD wasn't NEEDED to win a ring is that it would hurt Lebron's legacy.
The 2016 finals went to game7 in the last minute. The Warriors were as close as winning a championship without actually winning one. And we all know a lot of stuff happened in 2016 so it went to Cavs way and we give them credits.
However, right before KD joined the Warriors, Vegas still had the Warriors as the favorite to win. Those odds are, of course, just a rough idea of where a team stands before anything happens in the summer but that's the only objective info as we can get and it's better than nothing. What I don't understand is how the media keeps on pushing the narrative that KD was NEEDED for the Warriors to win.
It doesn't make any sense. If it comes to any other teams which lost in the finals, we don't go like, oh they definitely NEED another top 5 player to win, let alone a team with the best regular season record in NBA history. You wouldn't say that to the 2013 Spurs which lost in a g7 also. You wouldn't say that to the 2008 Lakers which lost in six not seven. You also wouldn't say that to the Miami Heat in 2011 when they lost in six not seven to the Mavs. And are we going to say that to this Boston Celtics team? The current top 5 players for me is Giannis, Steph, Luka, Jokic and Embild. So the Celtics NEED 1 of them to win??
But somehow, a Warriors team led by a 2 times MVP, one unanimous, all of a sudden, definitely NEEDED another top 5 player to win. Before this year, I rarely heard anyone from the media entertain the idea that the Warriors could have any chance of winning without KD in 2017 and 2018. It's really simple. Because if the media keeps on pushing this narrative so that people believe that KD was the reason for the Warriors to win, Steph would be perceived as someone who needed help, but when if fact he didn't.
What if we keep it real and look at KD as a luxury who simply gave the Warriors a higher chance of winning from maybe 60-70 percent to 95 percent? That would mean that a team led by a point guard who is 6'3 could be matched against the Cavs led by Lebron, who was constantly being pushed by the media to be in GOAT contention. That would not be a good look for Lebron because if he cannot even beat a player who plays in the same era, how could he be considered in a GOAT conversation? You also would question Lebron's dominance. It' really weird that when it comes to other things like politics, people always question the information they are given but when it comes to sports, fans just take whatever the media gives them, sometimes without much evidence. Lebron was being compared to Michael Jordan when he only had 3 rings and without that much career numbers he is having right now. He somehow passed Shaq, Kareem, Kobe, Tim Duncan, Magic, Larry Bird and Hakeem just because he has 3 rings.
What most people fail to realize is that Lebron's 8 straight finals appearance only ran into ONE player who is selected as ALL-NBA-FIRST team that year in Derrick Rose. The Warriors in 2022 playoffs ran into THREE players who are selected ALL-NBA-FIRST team. They are Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic.
It's funny because even some Warriors fans are not aware of how great Stephen Curry is but I would say it. The gap between Lebron and Steph is so small and if you value winning over career stats or longevity, you could have Steph ahead of Lebron. How about KD? He is never the second best player to begin with as he only went to 1 finals outside of the Warriors run. Kawhi is even more impressive than KD in terms of post season success. Yes, Kawhi again, beat an injured Warriors but let's not forget that Kawhi was limping in the conference finals as well. Also Kawhi didn't even have another superstar/hof to play with.
    *Playoffs plus-minus
    KD(outside Warriors) 2.27
    Steph(without KD) 4.83

The barnes part was the key, the man was left open all the time in both series and choked both times. And if you really look at their numbers, curry’s teammates really didn’t show up at all in terms of shooting in either series including thompson. In the 2016 finals, curry’s teammates shot below 30% on OPEN 3’s. So when lebron fans push this agenda that if he and Curry switched teams lebron would’ve won both times, it’s kind of laughable because curry’s teammates (other than iggy in 15 and Draymond a few times in 16), really shot just as poorly as lebrons teammates did in 2015. Just because their names were held as higher value than the names on the Cavs, doesnt mean they were more helpful to curry than the Cavs were to lebron in those particular series. Kyrie in 2016 was the most help either player got in those two series and it’s not even close, as he was just as good as lebron was during that series. And although ppl will argue Klay was the second star to match kyrie and Draymond and love were the 3’s which made it an even matchup, Klay really only had one good series his whole career in the finals which was the 4 1/2 games he played in 2019, and Draymond only represented a third option once which was for a few games of 2016. The retroactive judgment people make on the amount of help Curry had and lebron had has distorted history for most people. And the second key part to this is that the injured warriors were 5 points away from beating the Cavs in game 7 with injuries to Curry, bogut, igoudala, and a suspension to green, while the Cavs with just love and kyrie injured couldnt even push the warriors to a game 7, so how did that prove the warriors were so far behind them? If anything that proves if both were healthy the warriors probably win in 5 or 6 despite curry’s teammates shooting like trash both series. And the worst thing those people do is say gs was bitch made for getting durant which obviously I somewhat agree with, but I can’t hop on that bandwagon when David griffin has literally said they were trying to sign KD as well. If the Cavs had got KD and not the warriors no one would have a problem but since it hindered lebron everyone complained. These same people wanted the lakers to consist of lebron, ad, Kawhi, Paul George, and dame. Like they wouldn’t have a problem with that team tho 😂. And btw the narrative that the warriors lost and then realized they needed KD is also proven false, as you can see a bleacher report article from 2015 regular season that gs was gonna make a run at KD when he became a free agent in the 16 offseason. That’s why all their role players accept Livingston and iggy (barnes, barbosa, speights, bogut, rush, ezeli etc) the guys who gave them the best bench in the league and are the reason they could win 73 games, all had expiring contracts in that offseason. Their front office had those played signed only up till then because they knew they were gonna make a run at KD that offseason, and that is why the narrative “KD joined the 73-9 warriors” is also false. He joined the core of curry Klay Draymond iggy and Livingston while all the other players on the roster were gone. Because they brought KD in the became too heavy and didn’t really have any depth, which is ultimately why they couldn’t defeat toronto without kd. Had they used that cap on depth they defiantly would’ve taken out the raptors, as curry and thompson were the only legitimate scorers they had that series

just by luck, CAP space skyrocketed that year and Curry’s contract was still on a cheap rookie extension contract due to his early career injuries. AND KD really wanted to go to GSW himself. he could’ve gone somewhere else or stayed at OKC, but GSW offered him the best opportunity to get that chip.
yes. that was a panic move. if GSW didn’t have that CAP space, they could have just traded away Barnes for someone better at a less than KD price. and they KNEW that’s all they needed.
