I hated the ending because Duc Su’s two henchmen were killed and I felt Duc Su also died in battle and it was his spirit visiting Jiang Li. All three should have lived, I don’t care what the writer wants, I like to see my heroes alive at the end. I have not seen anything with both the Duc and Li alive with a child. Seems like an afterthought just to please viewers. I loved Duc Su, he was my favourite character, and should have been given a better ending. The show didn’t have to have him going off to war!
I felt like it was hinted at him dying, with the scene where he combed her hair. Think it was supposed to show a premonition of him dying to her and when you see him put her gift to him in the mouth and him looking up to forward the sky, I think its him making his peace with dying and his wishful hopes to see her again is carried with him as his passes. So think its supposed to be his ghost returning on the horse in similar way to how we saw her see Jiang Li's ghostly figure, I think it was intentionally made vague so people could imagine a somewhat happy ending while it was intended to be a bittersweet ending.
I'm honestly surprised that many people hate the ending, the ending was very vague and ambiguous. It was definitely up to the viewers' interpretation BUT they did made it seem like he died and that they met in the after life or something like his spirit, similar to how Fangfei meets Jiang Li's spirit. I honestly saw it as them reconnecting back again and in the novel isn't it said that Duke Su/Xiao Heng gets help anyway and they eventually have a kid? I feel like the ending is super open, so if you guys wanted to see them back together then that could be the ending too. I really love the drama and fully watched all 40 episodes, but it was sad they killed off his loyal guards. Despite the controversy of the ending, I believe they'll always be together/connected as their love is very strong for each other.
The last two or three episodes were not satisfying even though there is "revenge". There were some heavy handed tropes. The FL riding a white horse to be with her embattled ML, was too too LLTG. And that last battle was gratuitous killing. I despise when writers make a Rorschach Test of the ending scene. It is not respectful of the audience.
The drama is good all the actors are great but hate the ending.. if only I waited the drama ends and search for reviews before I watch it..this made me disappointed

Later she knew, he wouldn't be coming back to her. I feel the last scene, he did in Spirit, return washed of all the blood. Free. On another note, what's wrong with Chinese make up recently? Whether it's costume or Modern, Foundation line so clear, not blended, looks awful. So Artists appear pasty, yet under their chin line, a clear change of shade. It never used to be so obvious & off putting. These two were good, but not amazing chemistry. Individually great Performances, supporting Actors too, but when together shame so cool. I hope it was intentional, rather than unable to carry the kissing scene. Altogether, really liked it, would happily welcome a Sequal. But that last Battle, he gave everything, again & again. Hard to believe, he made it back. Btw glad there was no predictable side romance, with the Maid & Sidekick. Sweet though it is, that has become well used 💯🫶👏🌹
She told Jiang Li's Father that if Xiao Heng doesn't return, she will tie her hair and live as a widow. At the ending, her hair was tied, not adorned. Probably Xiao Heng's spirit that she saw in the end
another 10 episodes is too much, the whole drama is already 40 episodes. 1 episode extra would've been fine, 2 is like pushing it. 1 extra episode is enough to show their ending of their married life with their kid. each episode is an hour long so it's very much doable, but either way there's an extra episode where it shows them with their kid.
I loved the drama, but got really disappointed at the ending scene. Horrible! The ML and his bodyguards dying doesn't make sense as they were portrayed along the whole drama as extremely powerful and skilled warriors, basically undefeatable.

I HATE the unnecessary deaths of his bodyguards I loved this drama. One of the best that I've seen in a long time.

Great progression from start to finish BUT very bad ending/ without indication, they just killed 3 characters all in the last part of the film. 😞

The writer said it was a happy ending. Search for the epilogue where he is back and they have a daughter.

I read somewhere that the ending was as in the book it's adapted from where there is the description of the FL and ml's life with daughter.
