That really seems to work well but I think renting is the right choice. It would be interesting to have a local coop that purchases seldom used equipment like this that members buy into and can use the equipment.
Are you part owner of Sunbelt Rentals ? LOL You are lucky to have access to a rental tiller. Not readily available in my area. The other issue is whether the pto shaft on the rental would be the correct length for the tractor in use. In most cases, when you buy a new one, the shaft has to be cut to fit your particular tractor. If you rent it 2 days a year at $200 a day, a new one at $3000, would pay for itself in 7.5 years. Good topic. Thanks for the video.
Agreed, I got lucky with the shaft length and having a rental facility close to my home. I always try to rent around a holiday weekend. In this case I picked up the tiller Saturday morning, Sunday was Easter (rental store closed) and returned the tiller on Monday. Two days full use and only paid for one full day. I also lined up some small job's my neighbors had and made a couple of bucks on the side.
I love your answer. After I completed tilling his garden, he did say we should purchase a similar tiller and split the cost between us. I didn't want to mention that in the video.
