I'm gonna be honest. I didn't wanted a Quinceañera because I didn't have friends or family to invite :/
Same, for me I had moved to entirely different state so all I had was my immediate family. Plus for me it was a really white area (Snohomish County) as was my school. Like now the area is more aware at least to different culture and foods (though it's still not totally great south of Seattle is where it's at) but holy heck 20 years ago it was so different. Then there was the fact that I was awkward in high school with a handful of friends... then add my parents struggling... my Quinceañera was at restaurant for a dinner. I wish I had like a big party nothing fancy mind you. I hope that when I have a daughter I can pass along that tradition.

I couldn't afford to have a quinceñera. It is a huge regret in my life and that's why when I get older, my daughter is going to have the biggest quinceñera yet. I am only half Puerto Rican so even if I marry someone not Hispanic and my daughter is only like a quarter PR, I am still having a quinceñera for her because I never got the one I wanted.

My quince was "Luau" themed, mainly because I was honouring my grandmother who has been a Polynesian dance teacher her whole life. And I did a solo piece and it was amazing, and then a more up beat with my best friend at the time, and we had Puerco A La Vuelta y Vuelta. and it was awesome, because it wasn't a "Party City" luau, but legit...and I'm so honoured to have had that experience

I was born in Mexico and I went back last year to study.
Everyone has always said quinces, it is all over billboards, my friends and my cousin who had her party said it that way.

I was one of those girls why threw away her quinceanera. I didn't respect what it was actually about and I regret it so much now. I did do a father daughter dance, but I didn't even do that right. I barely swayed with my dad and wouldn't put my arms on his shoulders right. I didn't even wear a dress. I look back at it and I feel so bad for my dad. I just wish I could go back and redo it to make him proud.

That’s why I’m doing mine late. I’m so grateful that my family is allowing me to still have one at 16 before I turn 17. I’m having a sweet 16 with quinceañera traditions. When I actually turned 15, it was during covid and I was struggling with confidence, self esteem, and mental health issues so I felt like I didn’t deserve one or want one. My abuelita is so happy that I changed my mind now tho lol.

My grandmother always told me "If you wear a black dress like you've always want it, I WON'T go to you party" Finally I had to lie to her tell her that my dress was pink and when she went to my party and almost died when she saw my black dress, but at the end she loved it. That dress was so beautiful...

My birthday is at the end of October and Halloween is my favorite holiday so my quinceñera was a halloween/costume party theme. So my dress was blood red and black and I had everyone come in costumes instead of formal attire and they all had a blast. Even more than me.

I mean in Mexico we take quinceañeras so seriously. I don't think they're "just a party" theyre more a right of passage transferring from girl to young adult ( which is the point of the flats changing to high heels). They're also supposed to be a thank you to God for letting you live 15 years (keep in mind this is from a catholic). So for me quinceañeras do have a meaning and aren't just parties like Sweet Sixteens. Honestly it bothers me when people compare the two because no, they are not the same nor do they hold the same meaning. I dont mind if other don't want a quince but they do hold a lot of meaning.

Its a tradition in alot of latinos heritage went a girl transitions to a women, this is the way they would to it by doing a big party and presenting her as such. Alot of kida dont ecen know the real reasons of a quinceañero.

Here's the thing I'm about to have my quinces in 3 weeks and it's been very stressful but at the end it's kind of fun because I'm going to have all my friends and family there and I'm just going to party all day .The best part of that is planning it because everybody thinks it's the most stressful but it's been the most creative part of me coming out. Also the money that you get is ridiculous so I mean that can get your ticket.

I am a Peruvian/Korean! In here los quinceañeros aren't a big think (at least we're I live), I didn't have one and in my class no one had one. You don't have to be Hispanic also, if you want that kind of part, just have it! Others friends that I have didn't like all the 'big' things about quinceañeros so they just did a party un their 15s, I don't get why couldn't you do the opposite :D

My wish was to have my quinces, but my parents couldn't afford one. Now when i see quinceañera's dresses i feel really bad and also kinda disappointed even though it's not my parents fault, but it is a tradition, everyone that i know from my family had one.
I never had a quinceañera because when I was 15 I had very few friends in my town and most of my family was in another province. It didn't make sense to try and plan everything because none of my friends would be there if I had it in Vancouver with my family but no one in my family lived in Alberta. I think I probably would have been stressed out about the whole things anyway, though. I like quinceañeras a lot, they're lots of fun, but it just wasn't in the stars for me.

But I went to the trip to El Salvador for my 19th birthday party as a quince. Now. I'm turning 21 to have my big quince that I never had. one
I was scared to have a quince cause I'm Afrolatina so I felt like people would make fun of me and since its such a formal big event I didnt think people would wanna come and the Latina half of my family lives far so like no one who lives by me would get it or be able to help plan the traditions.
