I live on the north shore of Lake Superior in Northern Minnesota!! I'm a TabiEats , Mom, Shinichi, and Satoshi fan, and so is my dear friend, Suze From!! Hooray!!! Wild rice soup! YUM!
Minnesota beer!! Happy Holidays!! YAY! Livestream with Shinichi & Satoshi! I love this livestream...with you two eating Minnesota wild rice soup!! You are so much fun!! If you come to Minnesota, come up to Lake Superior!! Love you three!! And your mom! We pick wild blueberries in late July, August, sometimes September!!Blueberries grow up here close to Lake Superior!
Wild rice is great cooked on the stovetop with chicken stock, salt and mushrooms, cooked like regular rice but simmered on low for 20 minutes with a lid. Just make sure to put enough water and broth to just cover the rice. Yummy. I live in New Mexico too, great food here.
I live in Minnesota, so this is the most 'round the world video to me. I live 1.3 miles from where that Pearson candy came from. Truly is a small world looking at the treats.
Hey, being from MN myself, I love this stream and am sorry I missed it! Overall, I'm very impressed with the gift box they've sent you, I think they represented our state pretty well overall! I love that they included Spam and Pearson's and General Mills. I've worked as a Chef in the Twin Cities so I have input, to say the least ;) 1) Blueberry Muffins are the state muffin, that's probably why those were sent. I don't think we're known for our blueberries as much as Michigan is, but we do love them as a state! 2) Maple Syrup is also something we're not as known for as other states like Vermont, but we do produce it and love it! 2) You guys would LOVE the state fair. We have the largest one in the country, most years. Come then to check out our state! It's in the late summer. I would recommend bringing salt, however. Just sneak a shaker in ;) Then you could even visit our North Shore like Duluth to see our unique landscapes and try some really good craft beer. It's only about 2 1/2 hours drive from the Cities. 2) Wild rice is absolutely delicious, make sure you get the grains that are harvested by Native Americans as well, as it is the most flavorful. True wild rice is not ever cultivated. The soup you had is most found around here as a "Creamy chicken and wild rice soup". It is found EVERYWHERE. My favorite way to use the grain is to use it as a side dish! I grew up eating it this way: Fine dice mirepoix, then sweat in (a generous amount of) butter for a minute over med-low heat. Add Wild Rice and toast for 3 minutes, increasing the heat. Add salt and pepper during this step. You should smell it toasting with a nutty aroma, but don't let it burn. Then add a small pinch of dried rubbed sage, a pinch of fresh thyme and 2:1 parts chicken stock to wild rice and turn up the heat to bring to a boil. Once boiling, place a lid on the pot and turn it down to a simmer. When there is no liquid left, it is finished. Fluff with a fork and serve. It's soooo good with poultry, game, ham, rabbit, sausage, especially typical American holiday foods (Like Thanksgiving turkey). 3)The Chex Mix! So we call that specific PB&C flavor "Puppy Chow" and a lot of MN mothers will make this during the holidays. It is very dangerous and incredibly addictive...melt chocolate chips, butter and peanut butter together, then toss Corn Chex Mix Cereal into the melted mixture and mix it well, then let cool. Then toss the chocolate covered cereal in powdered sugar and serve! ...And try not to stop. thanks, this video was fun to see!
Wild rice has a nutty flavor on its own, so think of it as a replacement for nuts. You can of course use it in soup, but it can also make an excellent cold salad, wild rice burgers (with beans, typically), and so on. There are many uses for it, so I recommend to delve into the world of wild rice and see what recipes you might like to try! One of the recipes I'd like to recommend is a wild rice salad recipe from a local grocery chain that is known for its fresh deli foods. It has a very unique flavor profile, and I think it might be a good thing to try in a video or livesteam, because it'll throw your tastebuds for a loop! Recipe below. :) lundsandbyerlys.com/chicken-wild-rice-salad/
Thank you for the link to the wild rice salad recipe. I'm a vegetarian, but I have a friend who will love it! And, of course, I can modify it for myself. 👍
I just wanted to say what an absolute pleasure it is to watch you two. I am battling with severe health issues and watching your channel has helped so much! I can't thank you both enough 🙏💜🙏
if you ever go to MN, you need to hit up Austin to go to the Spam museum. they have varieties in the gift shop not sold anywhere else outside of specialty venues
I was telling my mom about you guys trying food from Minnesota and was saying we should send you guys some stuff! I'm glad someone beat me to it! My mom, sister and I love you guys! Have a wonderful holiday and a happy new year! Much love from Minnesota!
When I lived in MN for a year I was able to hand pick wild blueberries to use as an ingredient. Blackberries too. I just had to compete with the bears for them.
What a fabulous package Zach and Toad sent! So much care put into selecting things you both would love and use. (I adore the Paul Bunyun and Babe the Blue Ox tea towel!) That drawing Zach did is amazing! Wow, I'm so impressed. The food represented Minnesota well, I think. And I learned things watching--I didn't know, for instance, that spam originated in MN! What a fun and informative video, guys, thank you. 👍
I'm half Japanese, half Scandinavian. Minnesota has lots of Scandinavian-Americans. Scandinavian-Americans can be divided into two groups: those that make fun of Scandinavian food (which really annoys Scandinavians) and those who will try to make you eat Scandinavian food in a misguided attempt to prove that it's not that bad. The latter group should be avoided at all costs. If you spend too much time with them, they will eventually make you eat lutefisk.
Mom's Wild Rice Holiday Casserole 1 cup raw wild rice 1/2 tsp salt 3 TBSP butter 1/2 tsp Kitchen bouquet (liquid browning sauce) 1 Med. onion, diced 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup celery, diced 1/4 tsp sage 3 cups : " Boiling Hot " chicken broth 1/2 tsp thyme 1 TBSP fresh chopped parsley 1 tin mushroom pieces & stems, drained PREHEAT Oven to 350*F (very important) Rinse & drain the wild rice in a fine sieve. In a skillet, melt the butter & add the onion, celery & drained wild rice. Cook, stirring, until the onions are tender & transparent & the rice gives off a nutty aroma. Put the rice mixture into a casserole & add the remaining ingredients over top. Cover & bake at 350 *F. for 1 & 1/4 hours. ( DO NOT peek in the oven as it is cooking) Until the rice is tender & most of the liquid is absorbed. Fantastic side dish that goes well with almost any main meat dish.
I am from Manitoba Canada & grew up enjoying wild rice on almost every holiday meal. My father worked at a small privatly owned wild rice processing plant. I hope you enjoy Mom's recipe although you may not be able to source some of the ingredients.( kitchen bouquet )
Thank you for the great live stream. 🤗I’m sorry you didn’t eat first but I personally loved how you got after you got a little lightheaded from the beer. LOL! This for me was one of the most enjoyable videos of yours. 🤗🥰 The muddy buddies that you ate are made from Chex cereal that’s why it tasted just like cereal. 😉 Merry Christmas! 🎄

We had many breweries in my hometown of Davenport Iowa and back in the 1800’s we had a beer flood. A tank in a brewery broke and hundreds of gallons flowed down the hill into the Mississippi. Drunks were in the ditches with mugs drinking the beer. Lol
Janet...I am in Davenport too. Thinking about pulling local food items from here together here and mailing them...would you like to partner up with me to do that?
Thank you for sending the goodies, Zack and Toad LOVE food hauls! best way to learn of other people's ways of life if you ask me yay! more live streams, hope it's compatible with East Coast :) thank you!

31:10 I think it'd be difficult having celiac in Japan because of all the gluten ingredients in a lot of foods, soup stocks, sauces, and cross contamination in kitchens. Since people can get sick just from a speck of it. Unless there's government regulations on labeling it wouldn't be specific enough and restaurants aren't used to thinking about it either. On top of having difficulties reading menus and labels if you aren't fluent. Even soy sauce often contains wheat for no good reason. I've settled on eating with my eyes on youtube. I have done some research and Sweden is very good if you have celiac because they randomly have a high % of people with it so there is a lot more supportive regulations. It's moved up my list of vacation ideas.
As a Minnesotan, I went straight to the comments. Happy to see the pride !!
