    The funny part is, nobody has ever asked me to get better dynamic range or complained about my dynamic range. They just like the story and the audio too. I used to worry more about color but now it’s just getting the shot correctly exposed and framed is way more important than messing with 8 bit log footage and messing up lol. I think you might get around 2 stops or more dynamic range but on a phone which is what most people watch videos on, no one seems to notice much. Now on my new FX3 it does seem to really matter but still the S-Cinetone also is amazing. Caleb Pike had the best advice I have used so far which is using S-Log 2 with the Color Mode set to IT709 matrix and detail to -7 or -5.

    I've started thinking about PPOFF too recently... it really helps when you do not have much time to edit after 9 to 5 work as me :D Thanks for the video. Your night shots are really great.

      It helps a lot especially with Lumafusion...I don't have to much time with color grading and I am not really able to do it :-) but PPoff in my a6400 looks much better and easy than Slog2

    Well.... first of all... really well put together video mate! Second, most of us are not and will not be pro's. And for youtube videos and creative content, the PPOFF on sony camears looks great. My good I have wasted alot of time in the color page with no reason 🤣Learning by doing. Thank you for shining a light on this subject. I think alot of beginners and amateurs will gain so much more if they used time on the creative side of things, not the color side of things. Cheers

    I do the same. However, I use creative mode "neutral" with contrast -2, expose for the highlights and save the shadows by using DRO manually. In the dark, I use Cine2 because if it's really dark you can see a dramatic difference between them.

    Yes the colors look good on the A7SIII without a Picture Profile; however, it is limited to 8 bit color. If one were to want to use the full capabilities of the A7SIII such as 10 bit color, it is required that they shoot in a Picture Profile that utilizes the 10 bit color such as SLOG3 or HLG3. This can be super important when it comes to uploading an HDR video to TH-cam for example. Just saying lol

    Great video, shooting on the a7s on cine 4 for years now because everybody only talks about that or slog. But I think it’s hard to put out consistent looking shots for maybe a wedding video over 10 min long. Because it’s hard to be consistent in color grading and it’s takes so much time. I’m gonna try this

    • @camiror5870

    using the standard profile given straight out of the box has this weird sharpness effect that I dislike severely while shooting videos. To counter this, I just turn the sharpness down in the creative profile settings.

    Any thoughts on shooting my first wedding video with a Sony A6400 with PPOFF? I don't have a lot of time to edit and need to get the highlight video out quick and I don't have a problem with adjusting the tones and saturation in Premiere.

    • @camiror5870
      @camiror5870  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jon, I found PPOFF to be a safe choice to get accurate life-like colors, so I’d say yes go for it! It works well for wedding videos, especially if you’re going for the natural look. Another good idea is to switch to a flatter profile if you’re stuck with any harsh lighting / high contrast, and shoot the rest of the vid with PPOFF. Good luck!

      @@camiror5870 Thank you, It's good to get someone else's opinion on this. I'm going to shoot with PPOFF and if it needs any adjusting, I'll adjust in Premiere.

    hi..great video and explanation..im shooting on cine 2 and cine 4 but im not good on color grading.i use the eos hd too but too saturated to me..now i off my picture profile and use standard on creative style...i have question..did you shoot this on 4k or 1080p? because im thinking if sharphess will set on 0 it will be too sharp on 4k.🤔

    Hi, many thanks for this vide! What do you have your zebras set to for exposure without a PP?

    • @camiror5870
      @camiror5870  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mark, I don’t love to shoot with zebras because it’s an extra step, and if I leave them on, it makes it difficult to compose. There are some different techniques like setting them lower to ensure skin tones are properly exposed, or 100ish to avoid blown highlights, but I’d need to experiment a bit before I say which is best. Thanks!

    All good points ... I don't think that TH-cam video requires color-grading .. I think it's a waste of time and a lot of extra expense. If you just get a good exposure and camera sharpness, contrast and saturation set ok, then your video will look pretty good and you can edit your video fast.
    The only problem I run into is matching cameras ... like a GoPro or Osmo Pocket with the video from my alpha cameras ... hopefully nobody will care ... good show thanks.
