Thank you so much for this video I’ve been having a nightmare trying to understand key frames. This is the best, clearest explanation I’ve seen. Subscribed
@@joe_cullen Just personal videos for (eventual) youtube. Incidentally, not long after my comment as I was tinkering with "keyframes", I had a pop-up that asked about wanting to "save" my work. As I sensed it was about to crash or close, I clicked "yes" and sure enough it closed, only for me to reopen and find that all my work had disappeared, and that is because I had selected (prior) "clear recent on exit" (and I cannot find it in any folder). The fun never ends with Shotcut. This is also why I always have to relearn, because I dread editing due to all these mishaps.
@@cosmicmauve sounds like you have already exhausted options, but for clarity, if the file saved it should be the original file, if it corrupt and you could recover the latest save, it should be available in the same directory as the original with "-repaired" on the end. Goodluck with your channel!
Keyframes are awesome, not the easiest to learn, but keep playing, the results will be worth it. Send me a link to your video when you are done, I'd love to see what you create 🙂
Hi Joe, thanks so much for this, really helped. Now, I shot my video waaaayyy too wide so that I'm just this tiny person in the corner. How do I reduce the overall size of my video to zoom in for the whole time? Same steps? Thank you!
Hello, yes its the same steps, but to simplify it you can apply the filter to the TRACK rather than the individual video clips. Select the track where it says "V1". When you get a red box around the track, you can apply the zoom. This will apply to all clips on this layer - so only have your main footage on this track. It means you can cut and snip as much as you like without applying zoom-in on every clip. Otherwise you can copy and paste your filter to every clip, but that could be a lot of work!
@@joe_cullen oh yay! Thank you! That works! Appreciate it. Been binge watching your tutorials and learned so much. They're very clear and thorough and JUST simple enough for me to be able to follow.
at 6:21 my shotcut does not have the said options. The linear button is rectangle not diamond and when I right click on it, it has 3 options: From Previous (greyed out) - can't click on it To Next (also greyed out) - can't click on it Remove (only option that allows clicking) How do I solve this problem?
Hey, the keyframing works slightly differently now... If you add more than one keyframe it should allow you to go to next/previous. I believe they are greyed out, because another Keyframe in your project does not exist (either before or after), so you cannot 'move to next' as there isn't a next one to move to.
Also at the start of your videos , probably a good idea to say what version of shotcut you are using as they are gonna be outdated videos when updates become available in a couple of yrs time when people reference your vids they might not apply anymore or operate differently, cheers shaneweightman uk 🇬🇧
I was using the Alt + arrow keys to move back through clips. Somehow I have changed the zoom of every one of my frames to 35% zoom. I closed the program without saving hoping it would revert back but it did not. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?
@@joe_cullen This was a weird glitch. After a while it corrected itself. I've been using shotcut for a couple of years and never experienced this before.
Hi, if your computer is stuggling then try this: th-cam.com/video/pG_mhlblluQ/w-d-xo.html You may also benefit from a lower quality preview pane: th-cam.com/video/LYynuL3CXmc/w-d-xo.html When you export, the FPS should not drop, but it is quite a common thing in the preview pane. Let me know if you are still having issues after you try these suggestions.
Hey, have you used Shotcut before? or is this the first time? Theres a couple of things to try: 1. Lower the preview pane quality : th-cam.com/video/LYynuL3CXmc/w-d-xo.html 2. Use a proxxy : th-cam.com/video/pG_mhlblluQ/w-d-xo.html If you use Shotcut in the past and its a new problem, has anything changed? New camera or recording device for example?
@@joe_cullen I’ve used shotcut many times but I’m not quite sure what the problem is. I’ve tried lowering the quality on the project but when I crop/zoom the video it goes very laggy. Thank you for the help though!
@@lowcash1983 I dont have a video on this but try going to Properties and Convert... Change it into a 'video editing friendly' file. It can take some time but occasionally my clients send through files with variable frame rates - and it kills my Shotcut project too. Might be that!
Hey, double click on the playlist item (red outline), then go to Properties. In the blue box at the top of the properties pane it will say the clips name. It doesnt look editable - but click into it and you can change it. When you rename it, the Playlist will update!
Hi, this is often because of the resources available on the computer. You can lower the preview screen resolution, and also try to use proxy to improve prove the smoothness. As a side note, when you export the video the choppyness you are seeing should no longer be present. Let me know how you get on :)
Nothing happens when I apply zoom, the white lines move but not the image :/ What I'm trying to do is, I recorded my taskbar by mistake and I want to hide it, but I don't want to lose other parts of the video when zooming, I just want to remove the taskbar. Damm, I miss when I had Sony Vegas, was so much easier there
Hey, if you zoom in it will cut off a bit of the sides too, but you can position it so you dont lose the top at all. Its all done with the 'Size Position and Rotate' filter. Make sure your playhead is over a part where you have applied the zoom, otherwise it will not change on your preview pane. If you have multiple cuts, you can apply the filter to the track to save a lot of time and repetition. Hope that makes sense, sounds like you're on the right path, just practicing a new software which can be very frustrating!! Keep with it, and let me know if I can help any more!
Hi, the speed of the zoom depends on how close (or far away) the keyframes are. If the keyframes are close together the transition has to happen much faster. If the keyframe is far apart, it will go much slower. Hope this helps :)
Which method of zooming do you use in your videos?
Key frame
Animated zoom in.
Amma start using both
you got that ability to keep it simple exact and procise
Clear-cut explanation. Other youtubers make it seem much more complicated than it actually is. Good job!
