      Excellent video again!
      To export one part of a project, there is also the "Copy Timeline to Source" option, found in the Timeline Menu. I made a tutorial about this a while ago. If you're interested, it's called "How to export only one part of a Project".

    Thanks for taking the time to go through this. However, I think Adobe Prem has a much simple mark in and out to highlight your segment on the time line to export. The Shotcut methods seem fairly complex.

    • @joe_cullen

      Totally agree, Adobe Prem is awesome. However, Shotcut has come on since I made this video and has also introduced the concept of markers. I've not personally tried, but I believe the drop-in/out would now be another way to achieve the same result in Shotcut.

    This definitely works and was super easy to use. Thank you so much for this video!
    However, I ran into a snag and would like to know how to avoid it in the future. I missed a clip on exporting, so I pulled up the project and tried to copy that clip into the playlist and export. But it wouldn't let me click on the plus sign to add it. I ended up just creating a new project with the original video and cutting the section again (and that worked).

      I believe this is fixed with the latest version of Shotcut. The official documentation says:

      If you update to the latest version, you should no longer have this issue! 😃

    Question (not sure if shotcut can do that). I need to replace a portion of the video (a slide) with a different slide while keeping all audio intact. Is it possible? Video (slides) and audio are in one track.

    • @joe_cullen
      @joe_cullen  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hello, yes. Right click the clip in the timeline and click 'Detach Audio'. Then select the Audio (it appears under the clip on a track called A1) and ungroup it (if you do not ungroup it whatever you do to the audio will also happen to the video clip). Once it is ungrouped, you can work with them separetly. In your case you will want to chop out the video clip for the new slide.
      Hope that helps :)

    Hi Joe,
    I am currently using this technique ATM and it appears that after taking the new short exported clips into another project, then any small edits to the original source file also changes the new exported clip. I am pleased and surprised to discover this as it is a great advantage to me as I fine tune the new project I am creating. Just wondering if this info would make a useful addition to your original video on this subject?

      Hi Ronnie, I've just tested this on the same exact version and it is working for me. It might be worth saving, closing the project and re-opening. Also, make sure you are clicking the + on the Playlist and are not a different tab, like Filters. If its still not working, can you test the Copy function is working? Because it sounds Shotcut has nothing to add into the Playlist. You can test the timeline copy by pasting in the clip to a new video track. Let me know how you get on!

  • @kaijyuu_ka-ju48

    Does this work if you have different video and audio tracks? For example if I'm merging 2 videos in 2 different tracks and merging other 2 videos in the next cut, does it export with all the tracks or does it only export the V1 track?

    • @joe_cullen
      @joe_cullen  ปีที่แล้ว

      It will only export whatever is on in the single clip you select. To get the transition into one track you will first need to export the video, then make a new project to cut it up (the act of exporting will merge it all into one track). Hope that makes sence! Theres also a new type of exporting available - Markers. This might be a better option but I've not tried it myself.

    Very clear and useful. My issue is when I have finished an edit I sometimes have clips sitting on the timeline beyond the end of the edit. Can I export my finished piece of work without the extra clips or do I have to delete them all first? As I recall, in Premiere one can export the highlighted work area ( which would not include the extra clips) or the entire timeline (which would include them).

    • @joe_cullen
      @joe_cullen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Ive been looking into this and there are ways to select parts of a clip, like in my video, but not in the way you descibe. The solution would be to package it up as a file them import that file into another project - so it is an single item on the Playlist, but if you havnt planned on it being a segment it will be more work than its worth. So to answer your question; its not an easy thing to do in Shotcut. The best way to approach it is by deleting the timeline clips you do not need - as you already suggested.
      If you wanted to follow it up, it is worth asking the question on the Shotcut forums to confirm, they have very knowledgable people there, but I think what you are asking for is partly mentioned on their roadmap (Grouping in Timeline). Whilst that might not reslt in the ability to export, it would be the first part of achieving 'Exporting a Group' of files.

    • @joe_cullen
      @joe_cullen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi sugarless, do you mean you want to export each "track" separately? As far as I'm aware Shotcut only allows one timeline per project.
      The easiest way to achieve exporting 1 track at a time is to mute and hide the audio/visuals on the tracks you dont want to export. For example, if you have 3 tracks, hide track 1 and 2, and export. Then hide 1 and 3, and export, then 2 and 3. This will give you 3 individual files.
      Hope that helps!

      @@sugerless20 Great to hear it worked! To save double exporting you can do what I've suggested above AND set a "Range-Marker". Set the range from the start to the end of the footage. Still working for me, but I've had reports of this breaking before. Some releases of Shotcut introduce a bug that stops it. If you're not on the latest version of Shotcut it is worth trying to update.
