If you let me, and if you can, I'd like to see how do you apply "Blend Mode" filter at ShotCut, if you've not done it yet in another video. It's a very important filter, but I didn't take out a good effect from SC yet. Many thanks.
OMG I finally got the answer I'd been searching for! I couldn't figure out why my timeline started "skipping" around every time I tried to click the playhead on a specific spot and now I know it's because I had to unclick the Center the Playhead option in the dropdown menu. I didn't even know it was called a Playhead lol. It's been driving me crazy for months and I didn't know how to frame my question and I'm so glad you covered it in this video. THANK YOU!
Excellent video. Very clear and concise. I started using Shotcut a while ago but this has helped to answer how I can do things that I've been trying to do. Liked and boookmarked!
Joe, you’ve been amazingly helpful as I start my TH-cam journey. Thanks very much. I have a couple of questions….1). If I want to add a clip at the very beginning of the video how should I slide everything over? 2). This one has been plaguing me for some time….if I have 7 clips loaded and edited on the timeline then I decide to remove clip 3, how do slide all the other clips to the left at one time, instead of one at a time? Thanks!
Hello, thank you for the kind words. To answer your questions... 1) On the timeline is a button called 'Ripple' If you click it then Insert a clip, it will move the rest of the track to the right to make space. If you want all tracks to move (in most cases you will want that) then also toggle the 'Ripple All Tracks' button. TIP: Remember to turn them both off again after you are complete. 2) Right click the empty space and 'Ripple Delete'. This will move everything over at once. If you want ALL TRACKS to move left, then toggle the 'Ripple All Tracks' button before right clicking. Hope this helps, and goodluck with your editing! Hey, the preview pane should update as you move the playhead. You can enable the option on the timeline to always center playhead, so its always in the middle of the timeline. Otherwise, I'm not sure what you mean (sorry!) Could you explain further?
Is there a way you can select a video clip or audio clip on the timeline and move it one frame at a time either to left or right so you can align or sinc clips. Thank you for great Shotcut Tutorials.
Hi Tony, if you zoom in really close on the timeline, and turn off auto-snap you can move clips 1 frame at a time. Im not aware of a keyboard shortcut that moves them though all the shortcuts are listed here: shotcut.org/howtos/keyboard-shortcuts/ if you wanted to double check!
Ty for this. For the newest version, is there a way to add the little scrolling arrows back into the timeline? Also, my timeline is not moving with my play head....Is there a setting to change that?
Hi, I dont know of any way to get the arrows back, I think that was a UI decision made by the designers, its the same on my Shotcut now. On the timeline scolling, there are options. If you select the 3 lines (burger icon) on the left side of the timeline, hover over Options, then you can toggle 'Centre the Playhead' and 'Scroll to Playhead on Zoom'. Have a look at those and see if it helps at all :)
There's no shortcut in Shotcut. You have to drag a clip into the viewer first, set the in and out points, then save it, then drag the clip onto the timeline. Now you don't have to edit the clip twice incase you somehow loose it on the timeline due to some reason because it's saved in the Playlist.
Hey, to zoom on the timeline there is a slider you can use, it still jumps a bit but you might find that more helpful. Shotcut works a bit differently from other timelines you may have used in other editors, it's not terrible once you get to understand it a bit but can take some getting used to. Good luck with your editing!
You seem to be a nice guy. Why not switch to teaching something that's actually not a waste of time? This must be the worst editor out there and you're not even on Linux for which there unfortunately isn't a better option.
@@joe_cullen DaVinci Resolve is the only free option that's actually worth it. Buggy but vast and capable. The problem with Shotcut is the guy who develops it and which can't be persuaded to improve it in any way. Had there been a community behind the project then things would have been much better. Don't waste your time like I did for 2 years.
These timeline tools are everything you need to start video editing. BUT what else would be good to know?? Leave a comment below!
Sure, thank you so much.

I can't tell you how useful this was. The cut and lift and your explanation of the ripple tools was so enlightening for me as a n00b!! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

awesome - that must have been a pain! Glad you got it fixed :)
This was helpful because it was systematic rather than many random or scatter shot "How To's" I have watched.
Thanks Jack, appreciate your kind words! Any Shotcut questions just let me know :) ill do my best to help!
2:30 Thanks for saving my now-hopefully-good-to-go project, or at least saving me an hour of manually shifting a dozen clips around.
Glad I could help! Hope your editing goes well now! 😀

Thanks for the video! Is there an option to see the video moving along when you move the playhead?

Well noticed, you're right, I always save to playlist first because its easier to see what clips you have in the project - but not 100% necessary :)
Zooming is atrocious. Timeline jumps to random places whenever use CTRL+Mouse Wheel.
