Though I wouldn't go so far as to call this a "true off-road RV" the Sports Enthusiast package on this camper will make it fairly well suited to getting out of the parks and onto some light duty trails & out-of-the-way campsites! It features a chassis lift and more robust tires vs a standard popup.
It also includes not only a factory solar package but also a built-in inverter to power your household outlets!

Josh, I want to let you know my wife and I finally purchased our retirement camper. A new 2022 Rockwood 2280BHESP, which we bought locally (about an hour from home). I cannot begin to thank you enough for the information you supplied in this, and other videos, which helped immensely, when it came time to make our decision. Your sincere efforts to supply us with the information we need to make an informed decision, is unique in the RV industry, at least as far as I can tell! Thank you again, and we'll keep watchin'!

The sink/stove hinges into the walkway. All the cushions fold flat. The door goes horizontal along the roof.
We fill the rest of the isle with stuff(including the door, I removed it from its track) so that there isn't much room for anything to move around, since we mostly offroad with ours.

I have something very similar to this with a Cassette. We only use it for #1's, and when it's full, I just dump it in a vault toilet at the campground. I've dumped it at home as well, and it wasn't an issue either due to the chemicals I use I guess.
I've asked park warden's before about it and they've never had any issues, but their preference was dumping in a vault toilet or use the dump station.

That's the only place I've dump one also. Using a flush toilet as a dump is just a recipe for splatters and messes that gross out others. Wouldn't even want to be the poor person that has to clean it up if you overloaded the flush toilet and clogged it.

The trailer has "limit switch" settings for the UP motion AND down motion. Be sure to tell the buyers about them. You don't have to depend on watching the "green wire". When lowering the roof, the down limit switch will turn off the motor when the roof comes down all the way AND keeps slight tension on the wire when adjusted correctly. Therefore, when raising the roof, the motor stops AUTOMATICALLY, even if you continue to hold the switch in up position! And the same thing when lowering the roof. The motor stops AUTOMATICALLY when lowering the roof, even if you continue to keep the switch pushed down! The adjustment screws are under the cover that holds the up-down switch!

One could take a cassette toilet container into a bathroom. However, the stench is overwhelming, even when one has used the recommended chemicals and has avoided overloading the system. A friend dumped her cassette system in her home bathroom, and the smell lingered after multiple professional cleanings.
The wait in line is time well spent. ❤️

As far as flush toilet I have only dumped it at the storage facility where I store mine when I forgot to do it at home. It wasn't that bad.
Generally I try to dump it asap for that reason. One time I forgot and after a few days of 100°+ weather it wasn't pleasant. Lesson learned!

On those cassette toilets there is a product called the americanizer that adapts the dump spout to connect to a standard rv sewer hose. So if you are someone who doesn't want to see your waste or is worried about trying to free pour poop water into an rv dump pipe there is an option for that.

We are not solar savey we stored the trailer in our garage being we live in the Arizona heat and depleted all energy... Now we are trying to recharge our 2 batteries and are at a lost! I have search and unable to find answers, not sure is solar was the way to go :(

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

What you’re experiencing has nothing to do with solar. Batteries always have a rate of depletion
If the panels were open to the sun, then they would’ve kept the batteries tended
But if you totally drain a battery it never comes back to full and often can go to pot quickly

Easy to use in a dumping station in a RV sight. We have done cassette toilets for years no problem. I watch friends with travel trailer hoses and it looks alot harder in my book.

You can technically dump those in the toilet yes but, it depends on where you do it. If it's a city toilet, it wouldn't cause issue if you dump fast enough. Hey Josh, I really enjoy your videos even though I could never buy an RV from you, the import duty to Australia would be a bit much lol. I commented a couple of years ago and you were kind enough to reply. I said at that time that I would love to get an RV one day. Well that one day came...with all the limits on International travel over the past two years we bit the bullet and bought a pre loved RV and have been loving getting out and about. We have still been a bit limited in the travel we could do even within our own country with border lockdowns but that is all in the past and everything is opening up and we venture further and further at each opportunity. Anyway, to the point of my comment, here in Australia we only really have the option of cassette toilets. The infrastructure in RV parks (we call them Caravan Parks) has always been geared towards people using on site amenities and it's really only been a relatively recent addition to most Caravan Parks to have a "dump point" for people to empty their cassette toilets. There are very few RV's on the Australian market that have black tanks, and in fact even grey tanks are a rarity although becoming a little bit more common over the past couple of years. In respect of using and emptying the cassette, it was one of the things that I was wary of when I got my 'van but it hasn't been the ordeal that I had anticipated. We only use ours for liquid waste though and I find using the recommended chemicals and not letting it get past 1/2 to 3/4's full presents no problems with odors. I have even emptied the cassette into a domestic toilet with no issues at all, however this could be because the standard Aussie toilet has way less water in the bowl and can take a lot of liquid before it would overflow so we can just dump it all in. Sorry for the long post but thought it might be interesting for some to hear how we "do it down under" :)

    Josh: Respectfully NO!
Wife and I started camping in a pop-up in 1970.We were 20 years old (you do the math). We’ve owned two of them. The lift cables break, the lift motors quit working, the bed slides stick and don’t go in evenly on both sides of a bed and when it rains, you have to set down wet and then hope you can later find a someplace dry to setup and dry out the canvas. One Kansas night in July 1972 it was 80 degrees and wind was blowing 35 mph. That’s a no sleep night memory I’d gladly not repeat. As to the cassette, dump station ONLY. There’s flush water there for rinsing. the holding tank. Usually the in-drain is below grade so if there’s a spill material will still flow into the septic. AND please dump EVERY DAY. Don’t wait days for the cassette to “fill up”. If you do, you’ll quickly learn not to make the same mistake twice. The day +1 or +2 or +3 stench will make another memory you’ll not want to have. Respectfully, W.S.

I loved my Rockwood 282TESP with the large front rack. I carried my Ural sidecar up front. I just got older and tired up setup when I got to the site. Though setup was quick. I upgraded to a small toy hauler.
You mentioned the larger beds. I actually wished it had come with a queen and a full. IMO king beds are too big for a pop up.
I gotta say though, this is a great starter camper.

I can see the value in this RV if you want something that really is light and tows easily. Also neat that you can store it in a garage.
It would be interesting to see the setup that is involved with this trailer once you get to the campsite.
That whole bathroom/toilet situation looks like a complete pita. If the trailer had a hitch, the Bumper Dumper may be a better choice, but it would be difficult to use with the bed out and set up.

Also, I kinda like how the tent material is broken down by sections, which is great for repairs.
As an aside, I'd kinda almost think this floorplan could also work on a popup model without the popout beds, maybe for a solo camper who wants a more compact camper that's a tad lighter and overall a bit easier to setup

Wetter climates and road spray when raining will definitely cause it to age more quickly. Someone who mostly keeps it in their garage won't have near the concern.
