"Both of them would of been in for the roughest fight of their lives." That sent chills down my back. Marciano was the definition of humble so for him to say something like that you know he means it.
He's absolutely right. Win, lose, or draw, most guys in history who would get a hypothetical chance to fight Rocky would be in an incredibly rough fight. I think only a few of the elite modern giants would handle him due to the size and style clash.

Not just grovelling but what a nice lovely man rocky was such a gentleman and peaceful man u wouldn't think he was champion fighter if u didn't know him it goes to show what such champs are made of rock man
Damn. $1.25 million back in 58 is nuts. There's prize fighters today who don't even make half of that and this was in 58. That's how big he truly was. That's about $11 million today. Hardest man to ever set foot in the ring and the best conditioned fighter of all time.
This is how I would rate them #1 Marciano 2. Louis 3. Dempsey. I just don't think the other two would have a chance against the relentless attack of Rocky. Lous just got off a 3 fight win streak in his comeback but Rocky knocked him out of the ring in the 8th when they fought. This would not have happened had Lousi been in his prime. But Rocky would still have beaten him in a less glorious fashion. Dempsey was impressive but when he fought Tunney you can see he could not deal with real rign science. Gene Tunney being the first to bring real ring science to the ring. Rocky would have mauled him with his relentless aggression. And Lous would have outboxed him Could Ibe wrong on all of this? YOU BET :-)
@@johnreidy2804kids nowadays hate him and make fun of him but rocky would have destroyed every fighter in history including liston , foreman , ali His power and durability and endurance and heart were unmatched
Yes Nat fleitscher says his great condition wins fights he said mentally tough and a great puncher not as good as dempsey or Louis that was Nats opinion
You done an amazing job on colouring this one, great interview too never seen them before, mad how much he was offered to come back. Thanks for uploading
In our house, The Rock & Bruno Sammartino were huge. We followed them & thwir careers religiously. We also liked Domenic DeNucci & Gorilla Monsoon (Gino's Marella)
That's why they made the movie "ROCKY" because he was the Greatest all time Boxer. I truly feel if he were alive today and in his prime he'd clean out the heavyweight division. Men were tougher back in that era which is why it's been dubbed the "Greatest Generation". I know factually some of the World War 2 veterans I knew growing up in Miami were almost super human, I kid you not. The unholy crap they crawled through made them the strongest and most Patriotic Americans ever. That's too damn bad if you don't like me saying so.
Speaks volumes to the class of Rocky Marciano that he didn't talk himself into making a comeback. He knew his limits, didn't like the gym work anymore, and smartly stayed away.
rocky was smart, between the government, taking there share of the purse, and the scheister of a managers take, he figured it wouldnt be worth it, he would do all the fighting and would make the least. after all that hard training he would have to do.
He was as classy and articulate a champion as he was a killer inside the squared circle. Brute strength, freakish endurance and punching powerful/volume, granite chin and very smart fighter. His style was crafted the great trainer Charlie Goldman to make his lack of reach and height an actual benefit. Bad bad dude inside the ring.
Undefeated. In his day these guys were tough and actually fought. Definitely played into rockys advantage bc u were never going to out tough him. Ali and perhaps homes would have given him trouble bc they were great boxers who had arm length and speed to keep distance. Ofcourse rocky was aware of this and would know to be relentless and attack. Frazier beat ali in a similar way, twice. Would have been great fights. Can u imagine the purse nowadays for ali Marciano in their primes. Billions. Ofcourse if Marciano won it wouldn't count somehow.
He was very smart. I was never a professional athlete but i played alot of hoops. One day u wake up go to the court and r just satisfied to shoot around and not play w the younger guys. Mentally its gone that drive. In boxing that can be dangerous. His unbeatable record on top of that will stand forever.
Marciano, Dempsey and Louis were good fighters... three fighters with three different styles who fought in different eras. Marciano says that they would have the toughest fight of their lives. I'll put this out and finish it... Marciano vs Foreman, the rock would be in his toughest fight ever!
The difference between Marciano and the other greats is that in order to beat Marciano you'd have to kill him. As great as Dempsey and Louis were at their best, I doubt that was the case for either.
@Bobby D When Rocky retired on April 27, 1956 at 49-0 with 43 KO's Liston was 14-1...wasn't a ranked fighter...and was going off the jail...Liston wouldn't fight again until 1958...

'The Marciano Tapes #6' @3:40 - Rocky said, "it so happened that Vingo hit his head on the flooring, and it sent him unconscious. He was paralyzed a little bit in his fingers and hands. Instead, "He Was Being Prepped for Slaughter just to Please a Crowd" Folks try their best to make Rocky GOAT at heavyweight. When in truth he was small 185lb cruiserweight. Marciano only fed on former welterweights, middleweights, and light heavyweights. So for people to say he was the greatest heavyweight when he never beat a great young-n-prime 200+lb fighter is ridiculous So many Rocky fans cling to the stupidest narratives. They’ll tell ya that Rocky could beat every single great with ease, and when he walked the earth shook. Everything about Rocky is exaggerated hyperbolic Bull•••• Marciano could only dream of defending the title 25 times like Joe Louis did much less come back for more at age 37
It's a shame that so many Rocky fans consider the 37 year old Louis to be near prime when Marciano himself was at the end of his prime at 32 and had to retire. Do you think 28 year old Louis from the second Abe Simon fight would need 8 rounds to get 37 year old Rocky out of there?
Rocky might have had a hard time with Ali, bigger and faster. But the fighting styles of Dempsey and Louis at their time would have had trouble with Rocky and his crowding, and that Rocky could take punches. They didn't move quite like Ali, so Rocky would have stayed in range and slugged it out. Would've been a show for sure but there is no shoo in on who would win. As much as I like Dempsey and Louis, I think Rocky gets the nod.
You state that as if you had a crystal ball and a Time Machine. Well, YOU DON’T. So scroll on through your YT and past Marciano posts cazzo Nero boyeee.
Isn’t it ironic that ROCKY MARCIANO the ONLY UNDEFEATED HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION in the HISTORY of BOXING was out of all of them the on that never was close to having his clock cleaned. Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali both said that they couldn’t envision themselves defeating ROCKY MARCIANO.
I'm not real big on boxing. But I do have a pretty good knowledge of boxing history. If Rocky Marciano had come out of retirement around 1960 as he said he thought of doing in another interview. He likely would have eventually fought Ali or Sonny Liston. If either one of them had defeated Marciano it probably would have been a repeat of the Jack Johnson Jim Jeffries fight of 1910. Maybe even some rioting would have resulted as it did after the Johnson -Jefferies contest.
I do not think there would of been riots if Rocky lost to Ali (Who would of been in his 40's had a fight been sign by that time), the politic issues of the day would of been riots enough as it did happen. There was no riots when when Patterson beat Ingo to regain the title or even when Louis beat Braddock to be the 2nd black champ. If Riots happen, it happen sideside the issue of sports.
Jeffries age 35 dropped 100 lbs to make that fight and wilted in the outdoor southern summer heat and humidity by the 15th round. Losing weight typically means losing strength. Roy Jones Jr was almost untouchable until he dropped out of the heavyweight division to fight again at light heavy. He was never the same after that loss of power and stamina. Whereas the Rock would drop anywhere from 205 to 215 lbs to 185 in training and not only kept his power but added speed and endurance. That's superior nutrition and conditioning beyond any of today's athletes, and in a certain way (like so much of the Marciano story) inexplicable by ordinary measures.
This interview was being done when Rocky was 35. He retired at 32!!! Sonny Liston was the best on the planet at the time of this interview. Rocky would not even say Sonny's name in any interview. Rocky's fans never mention Sonny Liston's name. Obviously, Sonny was the reason Rocky didn't come out of retirement... Imagine a fighter fighting until 32 and then bragging that he is undefeated 😂
He wanted to retire at his best and his best he felt no more. How many fighters could say that had nearly 50 fights at 32 and won every single one. He gave his whole life to the game. His wife and daughter deserved him home
@@Dempsey1873 are you ret*rded??? Archie Moore, Sugar Robinson, many fighters during that time fought regularly. Marciano would have got his ass kicked by Liston if he would have fought 1 year more. When Liston was champion, no one even asked a 34 year old Marciano to come out of retirement to fight him. Every single other great champion would have been challenged to fight Liston who were recently retired. Marciano struggled great with Marciano was champion for 2 years and struggled greatly with Ezzard Charles and Joe Walcott..... Lol... Marciano weighed 180 pounds.. He would get pummeled by Foreman, Frazier, Tyson, etc... Can't compare Marciano to others...
@@Grizzlied555 show me the film you saw of the Liston vs Marshall fight? It's nowhere to be found. Quick question, since white Americans have been thoroughly exposed from fighting black and brown boxers... Why are there zero white Americans involved in boxing at the top of one division today???

⭐INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME IBHOF CANASTOTA, NY ARCHIE MOORE fought for an incredible 27 years. He became the light heavyweight champion at the age of 39 and is the only man to have fought both Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali. Moore, who turned pro in 1936, debuted in the world rankings as a middleweight in the early 1940s. By 1945, Moore moved up to light heavyweight and although he was continually passed over for a title shot, he remained a fixture in the 175-pound rankings. Finally, in 1952, four days after his 39th birthday, Moore secured a shot against light heavyweight champion Joey Maxim. He won the title by decision and held onto it for nearly a decade. In 1955, Moore attempted to win the heavyweight title from Rocky Marciano. Although he dropped Marciano early in the fight, Marciano rallied and stopped Moore in the ninth round. A year later, after Marciano retired, Moore met Floyd Patterson for the vacant heavyweight crown but was stopped in five. Moore's age is listed as 49 at the time of the Ali fight in 1962, but some ring experts insist he was actually older since his date of birth has been disputed. Born: Dec.13, 1913 Died: Dec. 9, 1998 Bouts: 219 Won: 184 Lost: 24 Draw: 10 NC: 1 KOs: 130 Induction: 1990 Written by IBHOF,,, go look There is 3 other paragraphs i omitted which mostly talks about Archie's light heavyweight accomplishments. I just wanted to include the parts showing Moore's actual factual age. Moore was born Dec.13, 1913 and fought Rocky Sept. 21, 1955 which makes Moore exactly 41 years, 9 months, 8 days old. [[ Something else very important needs to be understood. Moore is not an ATG. He is Hall-of-Famer. ATG is strictly a biased guessing game based on who is GOAT. There is pound-for-pound rankings,, but no ATG/GOAT rankings because The-Greatest is only based upon opinionated favoritism. No diff than H2H matchups. "He may be greatest to you,, but not to me!" ]] Besides Walcott & Moore definitely are Not ATG's. LHW Moore is remembered solely for his longevity and 41% of all Walcott's fights were losses. If Charles were an ATG aka GOAT,, it would definitely be as 174 lb light heavyweight,, Not Heavyweight! And Joe Louis ceased being an ATG/GOAT after his 4yrs of military service. 40+ years of age in boxing years is senior citizen! Only reason Foreman was still able to box at 45 is because he suffered very little head trauma and was able to rest his body for 10 years before his comeback. (I also have have proof that Walcott was actually 43 when he fought Rocky)
@@buddha7178 This guy searches out Rocky Marciano vids and copy/pastes the same stuff all the time to try and make it seem like him going undefeated wasn't a big deal, and that he wasn't that great of a boxer. It's pretty much universally agreed on that Archie Moore was one of the best pound-for-pound boxers ever and despite his age, still went 25-3 after his loss to Rocky, only losing to fellow legends Ali and Patterson in the process. I mean, it's true that Rocky didn't face the insane competition of the mid 60's-early 70's, but the same can be said for many eras of boxing. He didn't exactly face bums, either. He's conveniently leaving out important context like Ezzard Charles being rock-solid (And his career derailed after Marciano crushed him) and Walcott's prime not coming at the conventional age of his late 20's due to his life circumstances. You can see in the videos that he looks to be at his best late in his career. Louis had won 8 in a row before his match with Rocky. Everyone just pretends La Starza doesn't exist, even though he came the closest to beating Rocky in their first match. Apparently being a former light heavyweight means you never become accustomed to being heavyweight and can't succeed in that division. Good thing this guy never advised Floyd Patterson! He'd have told him that he stood no chance as a heavyweight! lol The man was only knocked down twice in his professional career and we never found out what it would take to KO him. I'm not saying he's the GOAT, but it's a shame that people try and tear down Rocky's accomplishments.
Moore is a ATG. Today he has a arugment of being the greatest lightheavyweight champ ever. What Moore did in that ring, if that does not count as a ATG, then what does??

The entire 1950s so called 'Heavyweight' division is a joke by today's HW standards. Ring-worn Charles and 41yr old Moore attained their HOF status as Light heavyweights not Heavyweights. BoxRec has them listed -(division: light heavyweight) ..His other two HOF opponents were 39yr old cruiserweight Journeyman Walcott and washed 37yr old Louis.
Gypsy King Fury would keep little Rocky at arm's length and force him back whenever he felt crowded. He'd jab, turn and bewilder him for as long as wanted, and if Fury felt so inclined, he'd walk him down Kronk style and smash out a stoppage. And none of this, "if he can't reach his head he'll go to the body", either. That's just bull****. Fury's lead would keep Marciano too far away as is. He ain't getting the opportunities to impose his workrate and definitely doesn't hit hard enough to stop him. Fury jabs him into oblivion. Heck, Fury can land 4 or 5 jabs a round and win the round. King Fury wins. Anyway he chooses.
You're comparing a 1940/50 heavyweight to a heavyweight who reaps the rewards of 70 years of development in boxing. Why are you even making such a retarded comparison? Rocky wouldn't even be a heavyweight today and he was even small back in his day. What goes through your nasty mind that you would go out of your way to make a ridiculous comparison, to try to downplay the achievements of past great fighters? Get a grip bozo.
Ali weighed in between 190-230lbs (Ali unfortunately became heavier nearing his end, which is a big reason he started getting hit more often, as his former speed just wasn't all there anymore), Frazier 205lbs, and young George Foreman (surprisingly) fought at 217lbs. Even Prime Sonny Liston only weighed in at 214-218lbs and he also really wasn't that tall. The ref for the Liston/Ali fight was Jersey Joe Walcott, and Liston looked to be about the same size as old Joe. By the time actual *super* heavyweights came into the picture (ignoring Jess Willard and Primo Carnera, those 2 were actual bums that solely relied on size and power) he'd have been WAY too old to compete had he survived. Honestly, the earliest super heavyweights that were any good only really showed up around the Lennox Lewis era (with him being ~245lbs), but even then there were still guys like Holyfield that came in weighing between 210-220lbs.
🐽 Marciano fought three Hall-of-Famer's. I excluded Joe Louis for obvious reasons. Charles and Moore attained that status at LHW not HW!!! And Cruiserweight Walcott lost 41% of all his fights. The rest of Rocky's opponents were mediocre at best and would not be relevant today. Simply put, Rocky was too small and never tested.
I love Rocky Marciano' but I think today he would not be in the heavyweight division but I think he would be in the cruiserweight division. He would probably do well there. I'm not saying he would dominate but he would definitely be in the mix amongst the cruiser weights.
Your statistic of Walcott is rather misleading. Walcott lost a lot a lot of his earlier fights, because he was someone who peaked later than others. He was an average fighter initially who developed into a legit dangerous competitor later on, and then champion. So Walcott in his late 30s was better than most fighters in their late 30s. He was like what Karl Malone was in the NBA. Someone who’s better in year 15 than in year 3.
Rocky was amazed at Liston's punching power. He said, "This guy's jab could knock a man out. I don't know how I would have done against him, but I would give it my best."

Not just grovelling but what a nice lovely man rocky was such a gentleman and peaceful man u wouldn't think he was champion fighter if u didn't know him it goes to show what such champs are made of rock man
Very sincere careful , communicator , pleasure to hear Marciano talk , one thing for sure, Marciano with a 49-0 record never took a " dive" .
Rocky was a great man and fighter, and was smart enough to know when to retire and not return
Damn. $1.25 million back in 58 is nuts. There's prize fighters today who don't even make half of that and this was in 58. That's how big he truly was. That's about $11 million today. Hardest man to ever set foot in the ring and the best conditioned fighter of all time.
Rocky is one of the first people I'm going to share a beer with in the afterlife.
Sounds like an intelligent man.
Very tough guy he knew hard times in life hard trainer never fought psy his best like Louis or Ali
Dempsey, Louis, and Marciano were all great, great boxers, each in their own way, respect to their memory.
And Lous would have outboxed him
Could Ibe wrong on all of this? YOU BET :-)

What Rocky said about Joe Louis says it all total class act

Rocky Marciano the definition of boxing hardcore
You done an amazing job on colouring this one, great interview too never seen them before, mad how much he was offered to come back. Thanks for uploading
fantastic clip, never saw it b4
In our house, The Rock & Bruno Sammartino were huge. We followed them & thwir careers religiously. We also liked Domenic DeNucci & Gorilla Monsoon (Gino's Marella)

Humble to the bone 🍖 R.I.P. 🙏🏻
No doubt
ROCKY, Chuck Wepner
The real Rock 🪨👏
Greatest 🥊🐐🇮🇹💪
Speaks volumes to the class of Rocky Marciano that he didn't talk himself into making a comeback. He knew his limits, didn't like the gym work anymore, and smartly stayed away.
rocky was smart, between the government, taking there share of the purse, and the scheister of a managers take, he figured it wouldnt be worth it, he would do all the fighting and would make the least. after all that hard training he would have to do.
That was awesome
Rocky retired as the Champ in April 1956 at 49-0 with 43KO's. Here...in January 1958...he'd been out of the game for about 21 months...
A legend a true. Gent,,but one of the hardest punchers and one tough bigger,,,rip rocky
fantastic clip / never saw before
He was as classy and articulate a champion as he was a killer inside the squared circle. Brute strength, freakish endurance and punching powerful/volume, granite chin and very smart fighter. His style was crafted the great trainer Charlie Goldman to make his lack of reach and height an actual benefit. Bad bad dude inside the ring.
The Rock........
😊👍
The way he talks about those former greats is awesome. He loved Joe Louis and it shows.
Marciano vs Dempsey would have been a war
I would give the edge to Rocky
You are correct because Rocky had far more upper body movement making him harder to hit for Dempsey
He looks a little like James Gandolfini here..
Amazing Rocky was offer MORE money to fight when he retire than at any moment in his 49-0 run lol.
Still has his brains 🧠 😅😊
That last part definitely happened 😮💨
He was very smart. I was never a professional athlete but i played alot of hoops. One day u wake up go to the court and r just satisfied to shoot around and not play w the younger guys. Mentally its gone that drive. In boxing that can be dangerous. His unbeatable record on top of that will stand forever.
Marciano, Dempsey and Louis were good fighters... three fighters with three different styles who fought in different eras. Marciano says that they would have the toughest fight of their lives. I'll put this out and finish it... Marciano vs Foreman, the rock would be in his toughest fight ever!
Marciano was a club fighter who never beat a good fighter and retired before he got destroyed by a good fighter. 🥊
The difference between Marciano and the other greats is that in order to beat Marciano you'd have to kill him. As great as Dempsey and Louis were at their best, I doubt that was the case for either.
Great interview. It's a shame he didn't come out of retirement. I think Liston was available in 1958?
He trained to fight Johansson in 59 but gave up after a couple of months,as he said to much time and effort
@@garychapman4294 Joe Louis should have said that

'The Marciano Tapes #6' @3:40 - Rocky said, "it so happened that Vingo hit his head on the flooring, and it sent him unconscious. He was paralyzed a little bit in his fingers and hands. There was a change in the ruling, from then on padding was put on the ring of the flooring."
So after all this time it was the wooden plywood flooring that partially paralyzed Vingo, not Marciano's punch.

Folks try their best to make Rocky GOAT at heavyweight. When in truth he was small 185lb cruiserweight. Marciano only fed on former welterweights, middleweights, and light heavyweights. So for people to say he was the greatest heavyweight when he never beat a great young-n-prime 200+lb fighter is ridiculous
So many Rocky fans cling to the stupidest narratives. They’ll tell ya that Rocky could beat every single great with ease, and when he walked the earth shook. Everything about Rocky is exaggerated hyperbolic Bull••••
Marciano could only dream of defending the title 25 times like Joe Louis did much less come back for more at age 37
You're a clown
It's a shame that so many Rocky fans consider the 37 year old Louis to be near prime when Marciano himself was at the end of his prime at 32 and had to retire.
Do you think 28 year old Louis from the second Abe Simon fight would need 8 rounds to get 37 year old Rocky out of there?

Nah
Rocky might have had a hard time with Ali, bigger and faster. But the fighting styles of Dempsey and Louis at their time would have had trouble with Rocky and his crowding, and that Rocky could take punches. They didn't move quite like Ali, so Rocky would have stayed in range and slugged it out. Would've been a show for sure but there is no shoo in on who would win. As much as I like Dempsey and Louis, I think Rocky gets the nod.

Maybe from the moolie crowd, but not the civilized fans. Nice try with the race baiting, btw.
Except when shook people down
Rocky Marciano is no match for prime joe Louis

⭐INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME
IBHOF CANASTOTA, NY
ARCHIE MOORE fought for an incredible 27 years.

Written by IBHOF,,, go look
There is 3 other paragraphs i omitted which mostly talks about Archie's light heavyweight accomplishments.
"He may be greatest to you,, but not to me!" ]]
Besides Walcott & Moore definitely are Not ATG's.
So what? All young champions climbing the ladder feast on older fighters.
He'd have told him that he stood no chance as a heavyweight! lol
The man was only knocked down twice in his professional career and we never found out what it would take to KO him. I'm not saying he's the GOAT, but it's a shame that people try and tear down Rocky's accomplishments.

NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF BOXING HAS A 185 LB MAN BEAT AN ELITE SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION
Ur a clown bro!
Said by some bum on the internet
Sonny Liston would destroy him
Other way around
Do you have a crystal ball? Didn’t think so, hater.
Rocky was amazed at Liston's punching power. He said, "This guy's jab could knock a man out. I don't know how I would have done against him, but I would give it my best."

@bobbyd719Look who you’re arguing with. Another one of them. They’re not worth it, my man.
