    I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you never hear about Rocky anywhere, no tribute, no praise for this great man, even though he is the only UNDEFEATED heavy weight boxing champ of all time, today's society will not acknowledge him, but WE'RE the prejudiced ones.

      Rocky is a legend in Brockton & his late nephew, Peter Marciano Jr is also a legend in Football as a wide receiver & safety & a kickoff & punt returner at Brockton H.S., where he led them to 2 Division I Championship Titles and the Brockton High School was ranked as the 8th greatest High School Team by Parade in 1985. Peter went on to Iowa University, where he had a full athletic scholarship & set records in Kick-off & punt returns & if not for knee injuries he would've gone on to play Professional Football in the NFL.

      just a few words that really pisses me off, they talk about other fighters that became champions, but you almost never hear them say anything about rocky marciano. these other fighters all had losses, none had a perfect record like rocky, they gave them ratings on who was the first best, second, and so on,but they have the nerve to rate rocky almost last. mohamad ali was a very good fighter, perhaps one of the best, but give rocky his due with all due respect. rocky we all loved you, may you rest in peace. best regards Louie Vaccaro, Las Vegas.

      Rocky fish ,Also a more then fair amount that really mixed it up with Rocky were ruined after that, he (not intentionally) of course damaged them to where they weren't ever able to perform at top level again.
      Early 50s ring rules Rocky & Ali? It can safely be said neither man ever faced 1 like the other, Ali never had what it took to actually hurt Rocky,& had they really got into it & Ali won on cuts, I don't believe he'd ever have been the elite genetic freak of a fighter he'd been prior to the fight. On the other hand there's no way he's wearing Rocky down to knock him out,so eventually it's impossible to move & hold his arms up, then Rocky puts him to sleep.
      What a few do,but so many don't grasp I guess because he wasn't elegant like Ali is that in his way Rocky was just as much of a genetic freak in his particular way . The thing both Rocky & Ali had in common is their heads were always peaking along with the physical aspect. Had Foreman been at the same place mentally when he was young as later, I believe he'd probably been undefeated, if Tyson wasn't a mental mess, same thing.

    Rocky gets badly underated now by people that are clueless about the sport. The man was a animal. The only way to beat a man with his conditioning, relentlessNess and power was to fight him. Not box him you'd have to fight out of your skin to beat marciano. You ever see how foreman beat Frazier he fought him . You need a guy that can fight with that type of power to beat a Marciano or else a freak like Ali. The klitchkos for example can't fight there boxers plain and simple.

      Boxers beat fighters 99% of the time, if what you said was true why then is it always boxers who wind up being the best, Willie Pep, Ali, Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson and Mayweather. Sluggers always end up getting schooled and thats why its called the sweet science. The man most considered the old school fighter Jack Dempsey was beaten by Gene Tunney, considered the first great modern style boxer. Marciano won in a talent depleted era after the Joe Louis era. Walcott was beating him by a mile til Marciano got a late knock out and his win against Roland La Starza was considered a bad decision and 3 of his title fights were against men most famous for being Light Heavyweights one time vs Archie Moore and 2 times vs Ezzard Charles. Watch his fight against Moore and its incredible the amount of shots he missed with. Marciano was a good champion in a poor era but he's not a great compared to Louis, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield or Lewis.

    • @discernment8963
      @discernment8963 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John Maddin , You make many good points, however In That Era when they didn't stop fights because of a few cuts &or a guy getting out boxed for a min, they generally only stopped (championship) bouts when the guy was to hurt to carry on & RM was never close to that. He often got stronger after the 10th & could have gone full steam for 25rds. He was by far the best conditioned fighter of all time. Again I think you make good points but you don't factor that he in,which is an edge he had over any (especially heavyweight) fighter by light-years.

      According to Rocky's younger brother, Peter Marciano: He was always a long-ball hitter with a very weak throwing arm."
      Marciano was also a slow runner, and all of that turned out to be a blessing in disguise because he became the greatest Heavyweight Boxer from his ERA and he is the only heavyweight boxer to retire undefeated.

    • @mwbright
      @mwbright ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardmilliken8705 He had a weak throwing arm? Maybe the brothers had a baseball rivalry. I don´t know. I would think a guy who could throw a punch like that could throw a ball. But I guess it´s two different things.

    • @richardmilliken8705
      @richardmilliken8705 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mwbright Peter Marciano was 15 years younger than his brother Rocky, so i doubt there was any sibling rivalry. The fact that Rocky's power was utilized in hitting homeruns makes complete sense, since he had one of the most powerful KO punches in the history of Boxing. And the fact that Marciano had the shortest reach at 67" of any heavyweight champion in history and his handspeed was average at best, then it makes sense that he had a weak thowing arm. During my glory days, when i played baseball at the H.S. & College level, i was 5'11" at 195lb and i had a reach of 78" and i always won the throwing contests at the Jr Olympics and i played centerfield & pitcher, because of my strong throwing arm and my quick footspeed. Most great pitchers have huge hands and long arms with wide shoulders. Rocky had none of those qualities, so it makes complete sense that he had a weak throwing arm. Carlton Fisk is considered one of the GOAT Catchers and he made Marciano look like a little boy.
      And Rocky was not accurate with his throws from homeplate to 2nd base. Marciano was also a very slow runner.
      It turned out to be a blessing for Rocky because he is one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all-time.

      Indeed! Rocky was smart enough to realize that he had reached his prime in 1955, at the age of 32, and his back had been causing problems for Rocky, in 1954-1955. When he found out that his manager, Al Weill had been screwing Marciano over financially, he decided it was time to retire on top. Rocky made more money in retirement, than he ever did in the ring.
      And by getting paid in cash under-the-table, he avoided Uncle Sam's greedy hands.

Matter of fact.WALCOTT had him down at 38...ARCHI MOORE had him down at 43! An over blown light heavy. U know who would of knocked him out and he only weighed 198...Jerry Quarry, that's right. Quarry knocked out the biggest puncher in history out in 1 rIund. EARNIE Shavers. AND that was when Shavers was 29...in his prime 6 yrs before he had Holmes down. Quarry had a great chin, he got cut in big fughts. And his ability to absorb tremendous punches shortened his career. He had Patterson down 4 times in 2 fughts.and Quarry got a draw which was a robbery and a win . And this was by age 23! His particular prime was age 22 to 28. He broke his hand in Sgavers fight. Ref should if stopped it sooner....about 12 punches into the 25 Shavers didn't respond too! And he beat Lyle same yr when Lyle was undeafeated! Quarry never was as good again. Broken hand, layoff and it was downhill from there. But bsck to Marciano...Look at first Quarry Frazier fight. Quarry stood toe to toe, and had Frazier hurt afew times. And Frazier had 29 lbs on Marciano. No Quarry woULD OF KNOCKED Rock into the cheap seats!!

      Walcott, Charles, Moore, & Louis were all past their primes, but other than Louis(who was washed-up in 1951 at 37.)they all fought great fights against Marciano. Ezzard was only 2 years older than Rocky & his first fight against Marciano was very close and Walcott had dominated for 12 rounds before Marciano knocked him out in the 13th round. Both of those fighters would've had no problems beating Shavers or Quarry. Shavers was not a good Boxer from any stretch of the imagination.
      With modern training, nutrition, and supplements, Rocky would've been fighting around 205lb during the 70s & he would've been stronger & faster. Rocky was a lot harder to hit than most people realize. Jerry lacked the KO punching power compared to Marciano and Shavers was easy to hit and Rocky would've had no problems knocking out Shavers with 1 punch.
      Rocky's nephew, Peter Marciano Jr was one of the GOAT High School Footballs to come out of Brockton. Peter went on to Iowa University on a full athletic scholarship, and he broke Kick-off & Punt return records, and if not for severe knee & back injuries, he would've went on to the NFL to play Professional Football. Peter was only 5'7" at 175lb, but he could run the 40 in 4.45 seconds and bench-press over 400lb. He was also ranked as one of the top 100 handball players in the world, after he hung up his football cleats.

    Marciano was a good fighter but lets be realistic he had his 6 title fights in a short period of which there was little in the way of talent and all of his title opponents were near 40 year old men which was ancient in boxing years back in an era before modern sports science and dieting techniques, and on top of that half his title fights were against mostly career light heavyweights in Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles. His bout against Roland La Starza was considered a bad decision and in his first fight against Walcott he was losing badly till he got a late knockdown, the second ended with a quick knock out. Another thing casual's don't know is the sheer amount of punches that Marciano missed with, its a ridiculously high percentage, he was a slugger and its outrageous for any serious fan of boxing to think he'd beat Larry Holmes, the dodgy Nevada State Athletic Authority stopped Holmes from equalling the record but it should be remembered when Holmes fought his 49th fight it was his 20th straight World Title defense and in those fights he fought good names Norton, Weaver, Shavers, Berbick, Spinks, Witherspoon, Williams, Cooney and Bey. I don't count Ali as he was shot and Frazier's son was not half the boxer his father was.

      Ezzard Charles is the GOAT Light-Heavyweight Boxer & Holmes lost to the 5th GOAT Light-Heavyweight Boxer Mike Spinks twice. And Holmes beat an old & washed up Ali in 1980. Larry didn't fight Foreman or Frazier, but he did get KO by Mike Tyson.
      Rocky's 1st fight against LaStarza was a split decision in which the fight was scored as a tie, but because the fight was held in New York, the Boxing Supplemental Rules indicated that if a Boxer knocked his opponent down on the canvas, he would be scored an extra point, and it was that extra point based on NY's Boxing rules that turned a tie fight into a victory for Rocky.
      The Larry Holmes that fought & lost against Spinks twice, would've lost to Rocky. Now the Larry Holmes that proved his toughness & determination against Norton & Shavers would've beaten Marciano. Rocky may have missed over half of his punches, but considering that he threw between 85-100 punches per round, those punches that landed on his opponents caused a lot of damage. Marciano's KO punch against Walcott in the 13th round of their first Title Fight, was one of the GOAT KO Punches, in the history of Boxing. The reality is that Rocky would've been either a light-heavyweight or cruiser weight Boxing Champion, if he was fighting today. The heavyweight boxers were a lot smaller during Marciano's era.

    Its not beating the record that would matter, Some one can hold the title and past the 49 mark, its about walking away when on top, and not coming back.
