    Can you comment on the material? Is the chassis metal?

    • @r3d2
      @r3d2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The body is fully plastic, but the lid I feel has a metal coating. It does bend quite a bit under stress too. This wouldn’t help with dissipating heat either and that heating issue may get worse with longer sessions.

    • @avp.69
      @avp.69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@r3d2 I've had conflicting answers regarding the build material. Dell's own website says the palmrest and the lid are made of metal (it doesn't look metal to me either). I think it could just be a metal coating of sorts, I'm not sure. I want to be though.

    • @r3d2
      @r3d2  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! They’re not clear about what it’s actually made of. It feels like metal on the surface, but you can tell it’s plastic when you hold it in your hands.

      I personally couldn’t see an overheating issue on this. Could be cuz I didn’t push it too hard or just because the i5 doesn’t heat up as quickly as the i7, but I reckon the i7 variant will almost certainly have heating issues with this design. The fan isn’t the most optimal to keep things cool inside, and also the body isn’t made of metal, which will lead to a lot of pent up heat.. let me test it out a bit more and check

      The i5 one I’ve reviewed did heat up a bit when I used it heavily (more than 10 tabs on chrome with TH-cam streaming at 1080p 60fps, and a few other office apps running in the background). And from my personal experience with intel based computers, the i7 heats up a lot more than the i5 even with basic tasks, but there is no compromise with performance at all. The overall build of this laptop in my opinion isn’t designed for the best thermal efficiency and can heat up more than you expect, so a cooling pad might be necessary if you plan on using it for intense purposes like high res video editing or 3D rendering. But there isn’t anything to worry about as it’ll be fine for everyday usage.

      Dell’s description is vague on their website, but the panel indeed is an IPS LCD panel. For the 2 in 1, I’d recommend getting Dell’s 14 or 15 inch Inspiron depending on which you can afford. Like I said earlier, the experiences with Dell products have always been better than with HP. In that price range it’s hard to say currently.. MSI has launched a lineup of 12th Gen high end gaming laptops a couple of days ago, but it’s almost double that range. So it might take a few more months before we get to see them here

    Hi.. thanks for the review.
    But what do you mean that it's a deal breaker if ee want to use it with docs or hubs?
    I'd want to attach 1-2 external monitors with it using a hub/dock. Is it not possible?
    Thanks

    • @r3d2
      @r3d2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I meant was that it’s not gonna work as good with a thunderbolt dock/hub. If you get the i7, that’s not gonna be an issue since the USB C port is a thunderbolt port. But with my i5 the USB C port is a USB 3.2 Gen2 port with DisplayPort 1.4 which means that you can hook up a dock/hub that’s rated for use with such a port instead of a generic thunderbolt dock/hub. In any case you should be able to configure the setup you have in mind without any issue with this one 👍

    Honestly, the heating control is terrible in this laptop, the battery drains enormously fast, i just bought it like two weeks ago and dell service is terrible they just take me in circles doing the same teoubleshooting again and again , even the servuce centre just checked the laptop once and then they just changed the software or something and the heating did reduce but its still terrible.I regret buying this a lot. Dont make the same mistake😓

    • @r3d2
      @r3d2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This has been an occasional issue with only a few units as far as my research goes. My laptop has not had significant heating problems, and the battery is fine too. But I agree that it’s something to keep in mind considering the Indian market for laptops in this price range, and also the offerings from other brands. The service centers can be quite unpredictable. On average Dell has a more customer oriented team but like anywhere else, a bad experience is always possible. Also, are you running windows 11 on your machine?

      @@r3d2 It did get better but not completely resolved the issue....... the temperature occasionally reaches a 90 degree centigrate....making the keyboard too hot to type at times, essentially for my pinky finger.....i haven't tried anything after the update because i have exams currently ongoing....it just stays warm if i am in an ac room...occasionaly getting hot, i am more worried about when i start using premiere pro or android studio on this.
      another problem would be occasional lag or glitches, like i opened a word document and then its stuck on a single page no matter how much i scroll, i had to restart the laptop to fix it, gonna take it to the service centre again after my exams....

    • @r3d2
      @r3d2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s better to take it to a service center with the most positive reviews and proper knowledge and experience with Dell laptops. I haven’t tried running android studio on it, but from some basic fact finding, it does seem to be an isolated issue with the heating. The plastic design like I mentioned in the video too doesn’t help with cooling it down 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Dell inspiron 14 i5-11320H variant is now available on the dell website(replaced this one) and it's approximately the same price. Btw is fan noisy when the laptop heats?

    • @r3d2
      @r3d2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they keep upgrading the SoC very frequently even with minor updates. The fan isn’t too noisy while doing any day to day tasks, but a long session of video editing might be enough to get the fan running at full speed with it getting a bit too warm.
