      Melissa with a bit of searching through your videos I discovered the TO Ascorbic Acid + routine.
      You are amazing! Have you reviewed all of TO/Deciem products and their products conflicts? Well I for one, as well as many others here have been saved by your efforts in helping others with this skin care line.
      I am truly thankful for your channel!

    following what you said, I should use:

    hope this is correct. thanks in advance :)

    My skin is combination type - always darker and dull
    No acne but still some open pores
    And Soo much tanned
    :-Morning
    •Cleansing
    •snail 92 cream
    •the ordinary niacinamide
    •cerave sunscreen spf 50
    •spf 30 lip balm
    :-Night
    •cleansing
    •snail 92 cream
    •the ordinary vitamin c 23% suspension or the ordinary vitamin c + alpha arbutin serum

    Is this routine right
    I can only apply sunscreen in the morning (because of college)
    Sometimes will apply in the evening 2-3pm if needed
    Also my lips are way darker so is there any ways to cure it to pink colour

    Hi Melissa. I would desperately need some advice. I'm struggling with cystic acne, a lot of closed comodones ( literally i feel a lot of tiny bumps all over my face) and got a lot of PIE redness.
    These are the products that i currently have : mixsson bean essence, dr. Sam's neutralising gel.
    I'm planning to buy Paula's choice salicylic acid toner for the closed comodones as i heard it helps!
    But i dont know what to get for my PIE hyperpigmentation. I was thinking of the joseon glow serum.
    What would you recommend?
    And please how can i make a routine out of these products?

      Hey! :) Hmmm... it may be best to get them extracted by a professional and then focus on the root cause of it, which may come from stress, lack of sleep, or your diet. Like, you may be eating something that your body doesn't tolerate well or causes inflammation, and therefore, causes acne. As for your PIE, you may have a chance with Azelaic Acid. In the beginning, you may not want to use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid and Azelaic Acid in the same routine. Try using Azelaic Acid in the morning and Glycolic Acid in the evening. Over time, you may be able to incorporate them into the same routine. Which Vitamin C product are you considering?

    Vitamin c 10 percent
    Azelaic acid 10 percent
    Moisturizer
    Sunscreen
    Night- cetaphil gentle cleanser
    Azelaic acid
    Tretionoin (thrice a week)
    Moisture
    Is this a good routine for the acne scars I have? Is the routine I have too exfoliating cause my skin feels irritated when I touch it. What changes would you recommend?

      Where did you obtain the isotretinoin 30mg? Was it prescribed by a doctor? Typically, when using isotretinoin orally, you should avoid using any topical skincare products containing active ingredients, especially those of high strength-except, perhaps, for a cleanser, a moisturizer, and sunscreen. However, it would be best to consult your doctor!

      Hey! :) I usually wash my face up to 3 times per day. In the morning, around 7am, or when I'm recording a video, which I typically do in the morning as well. After the video, usually around noon or later, I take a shower (when I'm not recording, it's in the afternoon, especially in summer). Then, once in the evening around 9PM. So, I do my skincare routine in the AM and PM, and in between, I either leave it as it is or just follow with a hydrating toner or serum, and that's it

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

      I would consider something like this, as it's simpler and will ultimately be more effective since you are not overloading the skin with treatments.
      Morning:
      Simple refreshing face wash
      Minimalist alpha arbutin serum
      La Shield sunscreen (if exposed to the sun/UV rays, otherwise skip it)
      Night:
      Simple refreshing face wash
      Minimalist tranexamic serum
      Every 3 Days at Night:
      Simple refreshing face wash
      Tretinoin
      I think you do not need to use additional treatments. I would stick with this routine for a few months and then evaluate.
      However, these treatments are likely not effective for 'real' melasma, as it's most likely caused by other factors in your body. To effectively address it, you need to visit a doctor.

      Hey! :)
      I don't think that you need all these products/steps. Also, where do you get acne and how much do you get? Does your skin respond well to exfoliating acids to reduce your acne? Have you tried Benzoyl Peroxide, Azelaic Acid, or Retinol/Retinoid as well? And what about Salicylic Acid? You may be able to reduce your acne with the treatments I just mentioned. However, you need to address the root cause of your acne, which likely comes from stress/emotional stress and/or diet that causes inflammation.

      @@MelissaVanDijkOfficial my acne isn’t a big concern of mine as it’s mild, I have tried salicylic acid and it did work well I just didn’t feel like it was going to be the best for my skin. A big concern of mind is blackheads and sebaceous filliments which is why I feel the glycolic acid is a preferred acid to use as it works wonders for my skin and helps brighten and reduce redness. My main acne is on my chin and cheeks and in between my brows but as stated it is mild which I why I believe it is a side effect from recent shaving.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

      @@harleynightyx OK. How does Glycolic Acid work on your acne? If you prefer Glycolic Acid over Salicylic Acid, you can certainly just use Glycolic Acid. However, usually for blackheads and sebaceous filaments, it's best to extract them with a blackhead extraction tool from time to time and then maintain it with the right cleanser and exfoliant (assuming you have no problems with them). Still, regarding your acne, I recommend checking your stress and diet as I believe they are related to acne, which can cause inflammation in the stomach and/or intestines. Your AM and PM routine should be very simple. Like this: AM - Cleanser, (Optional) hydrating essence or serum, sunscreen (if you have prolonged sun exposure). For the PM: Cleanser, Glycolic Acid, (Optional) hydrating essence or serum. If you experience dryness - like really dryness not just a few flakes as the skin sheds itself as well, you can use a moisturizer at the end, but before sunscreen.

My acne has reduced a lot but not completely disappeared which may be due to stress as I am a student currently studying for exams and it can be quite stressful. I have noticed the glycolic acid has helped brighten my skin exponentially as I used to have very dull skin whereas now I could say I have quite glassy skin(which I love) but I’m mainly just concerned with overall skin health rather then getting rid of acne.

      I recommend starting with a 10% Azelaic Acid cream before opting for something stronger. Also, having one or two breakouts isn't really a problem. It only becomes concerning if you're experiencing more of them and daily.
      However, keep in mind that if you struggle with acne/pimples to also investigate into the root causes of your acne/pimples, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), or your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance; like soy, spices, milk, bread (wheat/gluten), etc).

    Tretinoin 0.5%

      Hey! :)
      Overall, your routine looks good. The reason why you shouldn't combine Salicylic Acid and Tretinoin in the same routine is because it can lead to dryness and irritation-especially if you are doing this combo too often based on what your skin can tolerate.
      As for your acne, I recommend investigating the root causes such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors, or your diet (such as consuming too much sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance).

    Hello Melissa! As someone with rosacea, I just discovered your channel from Turkey and I am very happy. I have a question for you, I would be very happy if you answer it. Starting this week, I created a skin care routine for myself to cure my rosacea. I use cosrx snail extract + roundlab mugwort moisturizer in the morning after washing my face with just water. In the evenings, I use 5% niacinamide + round lab moisturizer two days a week, and Azelderm cream (20% azelaic acid) + round lab moisturizer the other five days. How do you think I can include differin gel in this routine? I heard that this gel is good for the papules of rosacea patients. Would it be a good routine if, instead of using azelaic acid in the evenings 5 days a week, I use it for 4 days and devote the remaining days to differin treatments? (Many dermatologists recommend using azelaic acid twice a day, but when I look at the serum they recommend, I see that this rate is 10%. Since mine has a high percentage, I do not use it twice a day. Isn't it the same thing?) So my routine is two days of niacinamide, one day of differin gel, four days of azelaic acid. Also, would it be beneficial if I used a different gel once a week? It is recommended to use it every day, but I am afraid of rosacea. Since my azelaic acid percentage is high, is there any harm in continuing this routine for a long time?

      Hey! :)
      Since when have you been following that routine of using Azelaic Acid? How is it going so far?
      Ever since starting my experiment (3-4 months ago and still ongoing) where I'm not using any skincare products-not even a cleanser-to figure out the root cause of my acne, I've noticed some changes. While I haven't pinpointed the root cause yet, I have seen a major difference in my skin and acne; it's a lot less on my face. On the other hand, I'm experiencing more rashes on my back and chest, and I'm still trying to understand what's causing them. Nonetheless, this really shows me that what I'm eating is affecting my skin for better or worse. So now I wonder if rosacea may also be caused by food or drinks. Perhaps something that you are eating or drinking is causing your skin to get red and even create papules, kind of like an allergy.

      You likely experience pilling. What is your AM and PM routine, and do you apply your skincare products to 'damp' skin? If so, avoid that as it's misleading because those who tell you that show wet skin and not damp skin. Remove the water drops from the skin surface after cleansing, then use about a pump of the essence, let it absorb, and then continue with the rest of your routine.

    Hi Melissa, I really need your advice, please reply.. Retinol made my pores appear larger instead of shrinking them, do you have any idea if that’s normal when you first start using it ?

      The micro-peeling gel cleanser might be a bit drying and is not the best option for dry skin; in fact, I would not recommend using it. Instead, I suggest opting for a different, mild hydrating gel-to-foam cleanser, such as the Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser. Alternatively, the Glucoside Foaming Cleanser from The Ordinary may also work well. The same applies to the Effaclar Duo; these products are most suitable for oily, acne-prone skin. However, if you have a more hydrating cleanser, it might work-I'm not sure, as you would need to test it. But I would advise changing the cleanser or only using it a few times per week while alternating with one of the suggested cleansers.

Some of these can be high in inflammatory nutrients. If you tell your mom that you'd like to avoid certain spices, vegetable oils, etc., because you want to address the root cause of your acne rather than relying on skincare products that have little to no effect (since they don't tackle the root issue), I can't imagine she wouldn't support you. After all, you'd be saving money on skincare products and could instead invest in better food.

      Yes, I am conducting an experiment and it's going quite well, haha. You should check out my community tab, as I am sharing my experiences there: www.youtube.com/@MelissaVanDijkOfficial/community
      What do you mean by 'texture'? It might simply be sebum buildup around the nose. You could gently scratch it off with your fingernails to see if that works. If it does, then there's no need to do anything else. Just make sure your hands are clean before doing so. :P

      I seriously don't know how to describe my skin 😢. Its bumpy and has a lot of red marks from previous acne. My pores around the nose are enlarged too and the sebaceous filaments look like black heads. 😢😢😢I don't exactly get inflammations in my skin anymore but the marks are killing meeeeee. There's no way for me to like get rid of it cuz it's like icepick scars. It also looks dull and old 😭. I'm focusing on "beautifying" my skin after the acne period. Idk what to do now.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

      @@user-my4wg2jd8u Well, yes, this just fades over time. It's the inflammation that the body is fighting, and that takes some time to heal-weeks or even months. You need to be patient. As for icepick scars, there isn't much you can do except for mechanical procedures to improve their appearance, but they will not entirely go away. It might be better to accept your skin as it is, since every skin type is unique and beautiful.
      However, what also helps is being in the real world, where you see normal faces. I'm not sure if you spend a lot of time online, on social media, and on TH-cam, but 99.99999% of what you see there is fake anyway. Therefore, I wouldn't place much value on online images/videos, as they can be heavily manipulated these days. This means that having pores, a few spots here and there, wrinkles, and some discoloration is completely normal and part of being human. :)

I have melasma on my head, also on my earrings from waxing and under my eyebrows where I pluck them. I have slight bumps on my cheeks, as if I used to have acne but I never did. I think it's my reaction to demaroller or maybe I once did a chemical peel with mild acids. otherwise my skin is prone to scars. a request for advice on care... I use avena hydrating cream with spf, logona tonic, and I started using niacinamide ordinary every night and it seems to please me. my skin looks younger and tighter, and I even think that my melasma has decreased a little. Hey! :)
      I recommend getting a blackhead extraction tool to extract your blackheads at home or have it done by a beautician or dermatologist. What cleanser do you use? It's good to hear that your skin tolerates Niacinamide well. However, do not use it in the same routine as the Vitamin C Suspension. Use Niacinamide in the AM and the Vitamin C Suspension in the PM. However, it could also be that your skin does not tolerate the strength of the Vitamin C as it contains 23%.

      Apply glycolic acid
      Wait a few minutes
      Apply hyaluronic acid
      Or:

      Alternating these routines could be effective, but using these treatments together for extended periods will definitely become irritating at some point.
