  • A wacky worm is something anglers all over the world use to catch bass. It is a pain to fish and retain your bait and get good hook ups. Check out this new, cool Crossover Ring from VMC that John Crews has started using.

    Buy 3/8 inch shrink wrap and cut a 3/8 section of the wrap, position the shrink wrap to the middle of the worm and heat the shrink wrap till snug. I have caught many fish on the same worm rather than 1 or 2 using a standard wacky worm set up. Hook the middle of the shrink wrap with a #2 weed less hook and fish anywhere with great results. Pads, limbs, rocks it wont hang up. Fish ignore the shrink wrap and hook. Caught several hundred bass with this set up.

      @@sageywaveyVMC Weedless Neko hooks size 2, 1, 1/0 or 2/0. Same thing for non Weedless Hooks, depending on the size of your worm. Use the VMC CROSS OVER RINGS, they work best for NEKO or Wacky style, and you will have a better hook-up ratio. I hope that helps you.

    Sounds crazy but we have been using the smallest zip tie you can buy for this purpose for almost 20 years. Between my father and I, we easily have 1,000+ bass with several over 10 pounds using them. One plus is that the bait slides up the line while fighting the fish if you set the tension correctly. That said, for the 48 I like the Mustad wacky rings. They are very similar to what you have in the video. I caught one over 5 using them on a 48 just yesterday.

  • @RocketDaryl

    I lose too many wacky rigs (rocks) so I go a less expensive route and use number 16 black rubber bands. Cut them to length, tie hook to worm (x pattern), cut tag ends and go fish. Works like a charm and you'll never throw one off because the rubber band grips better than the O rings. I *usually* make 2 or 3 up before I go fishing if I think I'll be using a wacky rig.

    They work great especially with the 48 worm. I make my own Senko style baits and like a weighted hook and it’s great.

    Agh, Mr Crews, today is " worm saddle" time. That's the name I gave it. I tried some of those 2 yrs ago. I believe it was a RAT ( Research Angler Team) project. I really enjoyed them but I did tend to rip it when I got bit and the hooks grabbed the fish on the outside of the face. Again, I like the idea of the hook riding outside of the worms. That short strike was eliminated. Might reconsider getting them again. Lately I've been just hooking the worm like I did when I first started fishing the wacky rig. I ran out of 48s so I'm using a senko & 6th Sense cloud worms.

    Save your hard earned money and use 3/8 inch heat shrink tube sectioned to appropriate width, very versatile, can hook in subtle ways for different bait action. Tips that do not cost you much money are always the best. Most gadgets and accessory items catch your money, not more fish.

    I know using the same color is good, but could using contrasting or a bright colored ring create a unique presentation too? Red Rings on dark or light worms, Chartreuse Rings on Dark worms, Black Rings on white or bubble gum worm etc... I've even thought about a Skirted Rings for wacky rigs...🤔 🍺🎣

    The cross over rings work great. If you are skipping the wacky rig with them your worn will come out. I want to try the 48 but haven’t gotten any yet. Maybe being smaller in the center will keep them from coming off. How would you rate the fall rate on the 48 slow medium or fast?

    • @JohnCrews
      @JohnCrews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      48 fall is medium. Try a smaller ring to keep from it slipping

  • @jdubya3498
    @jdubya3498 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just use the 48 from the drop. If you do you aren’t worried with hunting a laminate side, trying to crimp it down to make it work, you have the wrong worm or tool for the job personally speaking. If a tool has a more efficient and effective way of doing the job why in the world would anybody willingly give up an advantage? To me that’s like saying hey, here’s my waypoints and where I wrecked em in practice for 10 mins solid and were all 4lbs, putting yourself behind the 8 ball before hitting the ramp. The 48’s flat side is jexactly that advantage. I’ve been using the 😮VMC rings w/ the 48 for almost a year now and make the best combo I could find. Once I found the best set-up hookup ratio went up to tremendouslyi. I’ve found for myself where I live and fish mostly, in the grass and around laydowns parallel has been the go iito. LllAround grass line edges, open water, bed fish/spawning, etc, perpendicular SXf has been the juice. I’d say I usellld olllozziperpendicular 85-90% of the time. Tight Lines
    PS- I’m gonna need to see you hoist at least hold 1 more of those blue trophies 🏆
