    I remember taking my '67 Camaro out for a drive on some of the back roads near Tucson many years ago, only to see a bulge in the cover of my twelve bolt from the inside out the next time I had it on the lift at work! I pulled the cover, and three teeth had broken off from the ring gear (I think the carrier bearings had worn to the point that it had excessive backlash). So I bought the tools, ring and pinion, bearings and shims, and learned how to set up a ring and pinion. I also dropped from the 3.90 to 3.73 to make it a little better on the highway.
    I bought that car in 1987, and when it burned up in the 2018 Camp Fire, it had a 406 with Brodix heads, a Tremec five speed, disk brakes, a fast ratio steering box from an '88 IROC Camaro, etc. Now it has gone to Camaro heaven, and I'll never have another.

      That sucks. I had a 69 dodge charger that i just got done fully restoring and i was waiting for the rims i ordered for it to come so I could drive it. One day while i was at work the breaker box shorted out and burnt the garage down and destroyed the car. It took me and a couple of friends almost 2 years to do it and almost $50,000 to get it where I wanted it and never could find one again

    I bought my 67 Camaro in 73 when I was 17 for 775.00 , it had 89,000 miles on it and FF 50 years later it is still in my garage with 110,000 miles on it.

    I know how he feels. My grandaddy had a 72 Impala sedan with a 350 in it, he bought new in 72. I loved that car as a kid. On Sundays when we went to their house I would sit in that car and did just like him. I probably put a million miles on that car in my head. When I turned 17 he gave me that car for my birthday because I still sat in it a pretend to drive it! I wish I still had it. I loved that land yaht!

    Great video and educational also.
    Project car suggestion for Power Nation:
    Standard equipment (BASE) 68-69 Buick GS 400 or 70-72 Buick GS 455
    with a few "Day 2" modifications
    HD coil springs, HD shock absorbers, HD front and rear stabilizer bars (anti-sway), HD manual steering, front finned aluminum brake drums, manual brakes, NO a/c, NO power windows, NO power antenna, NO power door locks, HD 3 speed GM manual transmission (standard equipment), HD clutch, positraction differential with either 3:08 or 3:23 gears, bench seat, only option- Buick hood-mounted tachometer, standard instrumental panel or sport gauge instrumental panel whatever is in the car. "Day 2" modifications: aluminum intake manifold(maybe), headers, high flow mufflers, 3" to 3 & 1/2" exhaust system, HD oversized aluminum radiator with electric fans, Custom AutoSounds factory appearing AM-FM, Bluetooth radio with 4 speakers, tires equivalent to G60 or H60-14 for 68-69 GS, possible G or H 55s or 50s in rear, G60 or H60-15 for 70-72 GS possible G or H 55s or 50s in rear. Special Note: in 1974 only, the Buick Le Sabre was available with a 455 with a 2 barrel carb. I think it would be interesting to use in the 70-72 GS as an economy muscle car even though it is not date correct. I hope your channel and team will consider and build this project car. I think your viewers and subscribers would find this interesting and educational especially if you also give a presentation on what a totally new standard equipment GS with no options came with from the factory. Looking forward to many new, interesting and educational videos from you. Joe
    Please reply so I at least know you read this suggestion. Thank You

    I get that the owner wanted to just drive his car, but they should have convinced him to replace missing parts... Passenger side inner fender well and some body work on the passenger side rear bumper quarter panel. It doesn't need show car quality paint. I know it's the owner who likes it and I think that's good, at least fix up the interior a little and polish out those wheels, so when you take the family out the kids will enjoy more thumbs up in that Camaro. 😎👍

    The '76 Camaro I had years ago had a peg leg 2:73 rear. Not much for acceleration but it would top 130 mph (and start to lift off the ground) and spin that right rear tire for about an eighth of a mile.

    Great donor. Just like the original Mustangs - the '65 and '66 - the original Camaros - '67 and '68 - are the most desirable. Notice I don't include the '69. The two first model years, to my eyes, are the best ones for an update or simply drive original for the purists.

    Sadly the whole automotive industry is going to radically change, relatively soon. How long before IC engine cars are no longer made? Already most car makers are going fully electric in a few years. Then how long before IC vehicles are banned from use? It is getting harder and harder to even get parts for relatively newer cars. Tool makers and mechanics will have to specialize for much more reliable, and complex, electric vehicles. Where will Matco and small repair shops be then? Who knows? Changes are coming fast. Not good... 😢

    • @andrewmasonwerdna
      @andrewmasonwerdna 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well dealerships, all that other stuff soon gone too, good change tho :) besides the fact that we need photon compression engines so we can go lightspeed, cause electric blows lol.

    • @mchristr
      @mchristr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will be a long time before electric cars take over because they are simply not as efficient as combustion engines. The OEMs are jumping on the band wagon because their marketing and corporate PR people see it as a way to look "green."

    • @danf4616
      @danf4616 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's true that the conversion to electric-only will probably take longer than most expect. But all it will take is a few big breakthroughs in battery technology before nearly everyone jumps on the bandwagon. The rediculous idea that you have to spend like $15,000 to replace the battery on an EV after only 6-8 years turns most off of them, I think. 20 years ago you could say the idea of no more internal combustion engine vehicles was crazy. But what about now? In 20 years what will happen? 🤷‍♂
