Intro - 0:00 Back to the Future NES Walkthrough - 2:41 Diner - 6:32 Classroom - 11:55 School Dance - 16:30 Final Level (DeLorean) - 21:30 Back to the Future Ending - 22:03
16:34 when I was a Quality Control Technician at Breedlove Guitars, this is exactly how I made sure the guitars were tuned properly and ready for the customer.
Once again, you crushed another frustrating game from my childhood with ease. I could barely ever get past the stupid dinner level. I can't wait to see what you have planned for next week's lesson. Keep up the great work!! 😀
Thanks TC! Yeah I never got beyond the diner, either. Gave up rather quickly actually, so it was nice to put more effort into it and see what else this game had to offer (until I saw what else this game had to offer).
3:08 "First one is very important. Don't play this game. Now you might be wondering, Professor, how am I supposed to beat this game? How can I win if I don't play it? No, you misunderstand me. You win by not playing it." I've given up playing video games this year. You have no idea how right you are. I still like your videos as background while I do stuff. You mastered the FBI Hostage Negotiator technique Chris Voss talked about in his book Never Split the Difference. Have a calming radio voice. Keep up the good work, bro.
Thanks for mentioning that, Michael. I like to let the TAs show a bit more excitement while I keep more of an even keel (or calming presence like you mentioned) while I walk the class through the game.
As February is coming up, is there a plan to hold more classes based on movie games. I would recommend the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back games on the NES. Everyone always forgets that they existed because the SNES were just that much better.
@22:23 Lol this game is awful...I hated playing it when it came out & I still hate it now. I beat this game years ago & never played it again. The ending was even terrible but then again most games during that time were lol Great post
That music actually is Power of Love, but just the guitar parts, sped up. (Also the music on the guitar stage is Johnny B Goode, but again, just the guitar parts, sped up.) While this is more well-known these days, I'm sure there's still some people out there who don't know that. Not that it improves the game, but hey.
The TV show Code Monkeys explains how the game ET for the atari was made (getting drunk and describing what he thought the movie was a about). This game I imagine had a similar method to that. Edit: No, I never beat this game as a kid. The delorean level was too difficult to 5 year old me.
This was even worse than I remembered. I rented this game exactly one time - it was a two day rental. First time I ever returned a game early. I remember asking my dad to go back to the video store.
Now hold on, Professor! How do 2 & 3 apply if 1: Don't play this game - Something right out of the Angry Video Game Nerd's playbook - is to be believed?? Speaking of AVGN, do *_Not_* believe when he says: "No Power of Love", because that music that you hear during the top down street stages *_IS_* a sped up 8-Bit version of Power Of Love by Huey Lewis & The News. Don't believe me, look up a video of it where it's slowed down, and give it a listen.
@@VideoGames101: Worse, when James says: "F that music!", combined with the fact it's The Power of Love sped up, he *_Basically_* said "F you!" to Huey Lewis and The News. 😡
Ha yeah that one is pretty bad. At least this game is linear in its badness. You don't have to put effort into figuring out where to go next or what to do for the most part unlike B&T.
James Rolfe (aka The Angry Video Game Nerd) did a bad review of this game and the other games that are released by LJN for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Yeah the quality of the LJN games comes down to the developers which is why there are some very solid LJN published games and some stinkers like this one.
I want someone to make an expansive mod to Elden Ring called Back to the Future Ring. Then I want you to play it. All 200 hours of it. It would be kind of cool if someone could make better games for old books, movies, and video games. Anthem by Ayn Rand, The Giver, The Hunger Games. 1984. They'd have this level where you get tortured until you say 2 + 2 = 5 or whatever Big Brother wants you to say. For example, if you say four for long enough, your character just dies in the torture chamber. Except it'd be remade for current America, so it'd be some odd person in the CHAZ that insists you get their pronouns right even as they torture you for your evil crimes of misgendering people. You'd see multiple dead bodies next to you. See how committed you are to the truth. I don't think anyone would have the Chutzpah to make games like that today. But if they did, I'd have faith in you to narrate the let's plays in a humorous way.

The first two minutes of this video is the most entertaining review of this game I've seen on TH-cam.
Haha thank you very much Mike; I don't normally enjoy taking the piss out of a game unless it really calls for it!
16:34 when I was a Quality Control Technician at Breedlove Guitars, this is exactly how I made sure the guitars were tuned properly and ready for the customer.
Haha. The live 50's audience watching while you did it was the key.

So far this could have been LJN January. Gotta love that hyperspeed chiptuned Johnny B Goode! Die Hard would be a good movie game to cover next.
It's the last one for this month for what it's worth ha.
As February is coming up, is there a plan to hold more classes based on movie games. I would recommend the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back games on the NES. Everyone always forgets that they existed because the SNES were just that much better.
You make art, Professor.
Thank you kindly Captain!
GREAT SCOTT!!!! Could someone travel back in time and stop this game from being made!???!?!!
Truer words...

Yeah 9 games out of 10 had awful or non-existent endings back then. This one really is bad.
did anyone mention that if you slow down the game music it is Huey Lewis' song
Yep they did. Have to REALLY slow it down, but it's there.
That music actually is Power of Love, but just the guitar parts, sped up. (Also the music on the guitar stage is Johnny B Goode, but again, just the guitar parts, sped up.) You got me to watch the whole thing, you are so good at this! terrible game but still a fun watch
Thank you VLJ, yeah if we can make the bad games a little entertaining by taking some swipes at them, then it's all worth it.
"friends don't let friends play Back to the future" -Prof Tony, 2023
That's basically it.
@@VideoGames101 I love your show
That terrible music IS the "Power of love" song - just sped up a ton.
Ha yeah I hear it now, literally just that guitar riff on repeat. So many strange choices!
Ironically, I was able to beat this game as a kid, but I had no clue about Friday the 13th.
Nice, those later street levels are no joke.

1:22 Oh god my ears are bleeding!
Haha yep.
Indeed we do love Huey Lewis!
Heck yeah, so many hits!
1:39 this game had so little to do with the movie
Ha yeah... it's not great.
That song is The power of Love sped up. Slow it down and take a listen
Ha yeah I hear it now, that guitar riff on the verse basically.
@@VideoGames101 ya they didn’t have the license to use the song so they sped it up
This was even worse than I remembered. I rented this game exactly one time - it was a two day rental. First time I ever returned a game early. I remember asking my dad to go back to the video store.
Haha I want to see that testimonial on the back of the box. "So bad I asked my dad to go back to the video store".

Ha it's a fair question. And yes I can hear it now, just that one riff over and over.

Amazing VG101! I think this is the second worst NES movie game Bill and Ted is worse.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of Quest for Glory?
Heh how about a nice game of anything else ever?
This was the hardest game ever
Yeah this one was silly difficult, and not in a satisfying if and when you got it going.
Pins. Pins my guy lolz
Why yes. I do hate this game.
Ha just wanted to confirm! And deservedly so!
Just stopping by to say I hated this game in 1990 and I still hate it now.
That's a very appropriate comment ha.
