- Raghuram Rajan, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, tells NDTV that if unprepared, the notes ban can have a chilling impact on the economy. Speaking to NDTV's Sreenivasan Jain, Mr Rajan says an unprepared notes ban can see dramatic slowdown and also puts companies out of business. "I conveyed my notes ban concerns to those that mattered," he says. On his tenure at the RBI, Mr Rajan says he was open to staying on as Governor but the "government did not grant me contract."

Im a tax paying Indian. Leaving all the good stuff aside, India is definitely third world with the problems rooted in it's people.
1. The people are gullible, run away from responsibility, easy going and down right lazy.
2. They believe in philosophies of "anything goes" and "please adjust".
3. The common Indian does not care about the environment and you can see that in any Indian city.
4. The common Indian does not accept problems exist and leave solving them aside.
5. The common Indian find ways to cut cost and this is #1 priority even if it holds dangerous side effects
6. The government (BJP and Modi) is very incompetent and uses fake news and false/misleading propaganda and is successful in this as the common citizen is uneducated and gullible.
7. Infrastructure is third world
8. India is a bureaucrat's paradise

We can feel all other questions that were put into, to the respected Governor of RBI ( almost all the interviews that were asked to R Rajan , we think were just ordinary questions that had been put to him during that time).More other questions could have been put to him during that time during his tenure !

Anil Bokil and ArthaKranti have nothing to do with RSS or any political party. He himself said demonetization will only work one step of many to restructure the economy, one of that was to introduce BTT and remove all the other taxes but that only makes sense once we reduce cash dependency down to less than 20% at least and that's gonna take time in a country of 1.3 billions. I support Narendra Modi but I salute this man's genius and his intellect. One of the greatest bankers and economists RBI and India have ever seen. The RBI was facing a terrible crisis when he was appointed and he basically built it up again from the bottom up. After his first day at office the INR went up 2.1% against the USD. As Governor of the RBI, he made curbing inflation his primary focus, bringing down retail inflation from 9.8% in September 2013 to 3.78% in July 2015, the lowest since the 90s. He also predicted the 2008 financial crisis in 2005 warning about the growing risks in the financial system asking for policies that would reduce such risks. The US treasury secretary called him a luddite but he turned out to be right and he was hailed by the world. There is no denying that demonetisation is a failure because as much as I support Mr. Modi I do not and cannot become a blind brainless fanboy of any politician/party and not criticize their terribly failed moves. I wish PM Modi had listened to Raghuram, our growth rate which we need to be in double digits, wouldn't have fallen to an embarrassing 5.1 this quarter.
atindra jha : Targeting inflation in d monetary policy was d recommendation of urijit patel committee. When he left as rbi governor rupee was at 63.55/USD. But d blunder he committed for controlling inflation was continuously increasing d policy rates, making d MSMEs capital starved. No doubt he is a good economist but he didn't performed well in his indian experience.
Judging whether demonetisation has failed or not is a premature statement. Its effect will be visible in d long term. Short term benefits r already visible through 54 lakh new tax payers registered after d process. Just a person is well known doesn't mean he has performed well everywhere nd d biggest example is our ex pm Manmohan singh ji...

I decided to give him a chance because I was kinda fed up with the dynasty politics in congress and also with the UPA. I was so done with those super-complexed coalition governments. I wish they made someone like, say, Shashi Tharoor the PM candidate. I also chose Modi because he did fairly well in Gujarat although I realise there were some flaws with the Gujarat Model too. I am kinda underwhelmed by what's been done by the government so far because they could have done SO MUCH MORE considering they have a sweeping majority in the Lok Sabha and the NDA has the highest number of seats in the rajya sabha as of now too. I am very happy with their foreign policy. They've done excellent in that field. But economically I have mixed feelings. I am looking forward to what they have planned for the near future though so let's see.
awanish singh 54 lakh new tax payers is a fake figure said by our hon'ble PM. According to economic survey only 5 lakh new taxpayers came into tax net and acc. to FM the figure is around 25 lakh then whom to believe. Demonitisation is a very big blunder, without knowing the cons of Demonitisation PM pushed our country into economic crisis. Now just to give lollipop to countrymen FM is saying that we will see benefits in long term. In initial days of Demonitisation the statements were diffrent from present. The goal posts have been changed now.

Nowhere in video it shows and support your comments about him not being involved. He has given his reservation about demonetization as a Chairman of RBI. But i guess government knew better than him on demonetization. And results are in front of you. The only reason they took him out was his opinion didn't align with government. Raghuram Rajan has very little idea about how Small businesses operate in India. More than 80% of business is ON CREDIT, whether the business is a corner shop, a petrol station, a caterer, cleaning services, transporation etc. Thus, contrary to his assessment, Demonetisation of the economy will have a limited effect on the Small businesses in India, and that is precisely the reason why the India's GDP suffered marginally. Excellent decision by BJP not to renew the contract for Mr. Rajan, who is better off teaching theory on Finance modelling where economics has very little role to play.

All anti group seems to be debating around how to keep the black money system going instead of suggesting or supporting any action good or bad effective or not effective is being taken with the given intention.
I love the hypocrisy of comments here. On one hand, Indians want fruition within 5 year tenure of the government; without understanding how healthy policy frameworks are - which is what a smart person like Raghuram does (i.e. focus on long term economic health)... And when the government parts ways Raghu and hires someone who can perhaps be "influenced" into short-term fruitions in the economy - then Indians criticize the government for letting Raghu go.
So much misinformation. At least learn some manners from Mr. Rajan himself and his fine demeanor.

Please check UPA growth figures and substantiate your claims. The average growth figures are 7.7% (with the old method, now may be around 9% with new method).
For those who are not familiar with the technicalities, BLACK MONEY principally means income (individual or a business) on which tax has not been paid. Raghuram Rajan says that the Indian economy was being financed by BLACK MONEY without any interest rate earning prior to the 2016 Demonetisation, and now that BLACK MONEY has started earning interest in Banks as a result of which RBI's divided has gone down. However, he forgets that all individuals and businesses who have now formalised their accounts, are liable to TDS at source of 10% pa and and those above the threshold will now have to pay Income Tax at 30% from 2017 onwards. Well done NARENDRA MODI!
