    Excellent analysis of demonetization n its stupendous failures. Wish d govt had listened to Dr Rajan. Hubris is a characteristic of this govt.

    • @Pantherazure
      @Pantherazure 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Not just Mr Rajan, our Nobel Laureate Mr Amartya Sen said the same thing, even calling the demonetization move despotic. And so did all learned economists of the country. BJP has fooled the country.
      The worse thing is that nobody is even talking about it, because the new issue now is murder of Ms. Gauri Lankesh. So much is going wrong in the country simultaneously! Modi is in China.

    • @Pantherazure
      @Pantherazure 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +imthebadass bro - The problem is with him running away from the issues of his own country. And if he wants to 'increase' foreign relationships so desperately, perhaps he should immediately start focusing on the Rohingya crisis instead. Ohhh, but they are 'muslims' !! Big problem for BJP and RSS, no?!
      Demonetisation is a fiasco which all the eminent Economists of India, including RBI's Raghuram Rajan and our Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen categorically warned against, and yet Modi went on with this stupid move, even loud-mouthing big promises like Price Reduction, Education, Employment, Anti-Terror, Anti-Corruption, Clean India, Black Money and what not. None of those things happened. Instead 150+ of our own Country people are dead because of the tyrannical move. GST is another idiotic policy.
      Obviously Modi is to be blamed for all these failures. Wake up.

    • @Pantherazure
      @Pantherazure 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +imthebadass bro - No, it is so much blind-bhakti on your part, that you don't even know that Mr. Raghuram Rajan has also criticised GST, putting it in the same category of unplanned moves, like Demonetisation. That is why there is so much unrest among business-people on this.
      Truthfulness should be the quality of a good leader. Loud-mouthing is not the same as truthfulness. Modi is a liar, a "jumle-baaj". Whole country is realizing this, increasingly. So should you.
      Demonetisation is a failure, so whoever was supporting it is obviously a fool now, I mean, one should at least have heeded to the Oxford, Cambridge alumnis and a Nobel Laureate, right?

      Sameer Rathore wtf r you saying? During his term indias growth was 4% annually, unemployment was higher than it is right now, domestic consumption was low, fiscal deficit and currency outflow was all time high, only thing he managed to do was keeping inflation low, which was done at the cost of low gdp growth for 5 years.

    Sri Lanka got Independence, united -WITHOUT ANY PARTITION, in 1948 and no one in India knows. Even RR would not be knowing. It was not taught in Indian schools. We know about all other freedom struggles, especially europeans once, but not Srilankan. Reason? It would reveal the Empire's helplessness and would explain the subsequent support to the group of the power hungry bunch. As the gore were keen to get a safe passage to their motherland and wanted these C/ML agents to distract the angry Indians and uniting N A V Y by means of a smoke screen called partition.These SECriminals obliged. And as reward ruled India for 55 years,
    Over the years, the rulers of this country have only produced thieves. Even in 2016-17, mere 63K people declared income above 25L and most of them are likely to be the agents, of the past politicians/bureaucrats , laundering the crime money. That clearly indicates the character deterioration that took place during the rule of these SECriminals.
    So why only demonetisation? I suggest using a "random table" to select a percentage of retired bureaucrats, politicians,etc without a bias .That should be investigated under live cameras for any higher than expected assets. If found innocent, should be compensated and rewarded.
    GST: It's the best thing to have happened to the Indian economy in long long time provided no inspector raj ensues. Why worry about the non tax paying community?

    The immediate tangible benefits of demonetization are :
    (i) Public sector banks liquid funds in savings bank account swelled to extra 2.5lakh crores to start the credit cycle for home loans
    (ii)3.5 lakh crores less cash in the system. Informal economy contracted by 1% and hence GDP growth now likely to be around 6.5% which was expected.
    (iii) Govt subisidy 4%-2% for home loans for people who are in income range of 5 -12 lakhs for homes with 1000sqft and less with RERA compliance. Real estate shifts from High end luxury apartments to affordable homes with RERA compliance.populist scheme
    (iv) Inflation is at historic low 1.5%.More scope for RBI to cut rates in future ,to boost the credit cycle
    (v) 20% increase in the income tax payers. The corresponding increase in Tax collection will be known by Dec-17
    (vi)VBJY scheme of providing 8% FD interest for senior citizens for investment upto 7.5 lakhs for a period of 10 years.Populist scheme.
    (vii) Modi 's tough talk to all CA's not to give advise to Tax evaders ,shell companies made ICAI regulator to charge sheet more than 4500 CA's in a span for four months
    (viii) Around 2 .5lakh shell companies and , 12 lakh duplicate PANs are identified and the drive is continuous,
    (ix) More than 80% to 90% of the medical seats in pvt medical colleges are vacant ,money laundering in medical colleges had come to an end.
    By targeting less than 1.0% of the creamy layer of the society Modi govt had earned enormous good will from the bottom 70% to 80% of the population. By hindsight one can say that the Chicago professor RR would not have undergone the hot grind ,as gracefully as underwent by the present Governor Urigid Patel.One needs decades of training in Indian ecosystem to accept that condition which Urigid patel underwent.
    RR was risk averse , very articulate and sophisticated but tactically avoided the bootstrap situation enforced by the govt in Nov-16 and opted for his comfort zone "academics".Modi's demon drive with bio metrics can be a case study for business schools in future. RR is the correct person to carryout such studies but it was wrong call in Feb-16 and he missed a life time opportunity

      I know oil prices are high, and according to the article that you indicated, it doesnt give any clear reason, it says that the prices are high cuz of taxes on oil and it also says that govt. Hedging is increasing the prices.
      I do agree that crude oil should be part of GST and govt. is working on it but hedging of oil is also necessary as we can not depend on oil prices set by the opec. After adequate hedging we can participate in opec and oil price regulation.
      I think criticism towards oil storage is not done to reduce fiscal deficit as portrayed by the article. However i do question why govt. could not regulate taxes on oil under GST.
      Moreover, the article is published in collaboration with The Wire which is a staunch communist paper. Hence, this article reeks of ideological biases.

All the initially stated points about demonetization have not come true. Even when the goalpost was shifted to digital economy, it proved wrong. The present goalpost of wider tax base is also proved wrong. Economy has suffered irreversible loses.....I am in business and my every day experience is that people have completely moved back to dealing in cash......Do we really need any more expert opinions?????
