The Highs and Lows of Animal Blood Pressures: Cuttlefish, Giraffe & Human

A board certified internal medicine physician reveals one way that you resemble a cuttlefish: you both have a closed blood circulation system. We will look at why blood pressure varies so much from the very low pressures of aquatic animals like cuttlefish to the much higher pressures of land dwelling animals who must also push blood against the force of gravity. We'll also examine the extreme physiology of the giraffe, who must generate sky high blood pressures to pump enough oxygenated blood to its brain.
