Im not sure if anyone else was having this issue but when i set it up exactly like hers, the buttons weren't working as they were supposed rot be remapped. They still worked for the regular programmed letters on notes but not how intended for anki. Turns out when allowing preferences you have to open both karabiner elements and karabiner event viewer and allow BOTH to monitor input on your system preferences. When I did this, the keys worked correctly immediately.
@@shreeanshabhattarai3851 do you have a Mac? What I did on mine was once I downloaded karabiner-elements, I clicked settings-> security and privacy-> and both elements should be there for you allow. If not, click on accessibility (still within security and privacy) and you’ll see them there. Then check them to allow. Lemme know if this worked^^

I Don't remember also having to hold down SELECT by itself to go into pairing mode with these because I had them working in the past without doing so? Maybe I forgot. but you're the only person on the internet covering that part. So a million thanks!
This was really helpful! It took me a minute to figure out that the full layout you show at 2:34 corresponds to the actual way the 8BitDo controller keys are set up. So once I essentially mirrored my 'simple modifications' screen to yours I was then able to open a notepad document to test out the key settings to determine if I wanted to modify your settings. One key I particuly like having is the "toggle masks" option for image occlusion (default shortcut key is g FYI).
Hey! Could you explain how to do that. Currently when I press g on my Mac keyboard it doesn't toggle masks and I wanted to set this up on the 8bitdo but I'm not sure how to remap the keys if the g function isn't even working
Thanks for the video! I have a tip for everyone who had difficulties with the Karabiner Application like me. I did exactly everything like her but it did not work anyways. So I just downloaded the App JoykeyMapper on my Macbook, then paired it as a CONTROLLER (not a keyboard!) and was able to remap the keys. Actually super easy!

if your Mac is not seeing the remote as a keyboard or the app is not recognizing the remote at all, disconnect the remote, remove it and start over. Add the remote by: pressing start AND "R" at the SAME time. this will connect it as an actual keyboard!
I downloaded Karabiner elements and it is showing my controller is connected to my laptop via bluetooth but 8bitdo is not showing up on karabiner elements. What to do?

Hey guys! If you can't find your device: 1) Make sure you connect using keyboard mode regardless of Mac or PC ( press R + start) NOT A or X 2) Go into your security preferences when opening Karabiner and ALLOW it to modify / have acess
@@olamisco5625 if you press R + Start instead of A (if you’re using Mac) or X (if you’re using Windows) to avoid bluetooth mode. it should blink 5 times for keyboard mode activation. i would uninstall/reinstall Karabiner to properly activate it through keyboard mode. hope this helps
Hi any idea why my remote is not doing the spacebar action on anki? I set everything up just as you explained (and everything is working well except for the k and m spacebar). Every time I click the k or m an action drop-down pops up with options to bury the card, flag card, etc. lmk! Thank you!
The spacebar action has also stumped me. Edit: My spacebar problem stemmed from something different, but the video by Kristen Williams titled "HOW TO: Anki remote for dummies (VERY DETAILED)" helped me realize the problem.

It probably did not connect on Keyboard Mode!! on your bluetooth device list there should be a keyboard icon next to your 8bitDo. If there is a keyboard icon and you're still facing this, try reinstalling Karabiner elements?

Are you physically putting that in the modifications? I am stuck on how to adjust the keys to work for me
If you need an undo, just program one button to be the command or control button and then another to be z and push them at the same time!

Hello! I had the same problem! Make sure you set up the controller in keyboard mode, not macOS. It should pop up then! Hope this helps!
