    Dude don’t hold the piece with your hand while routing, use clamps! Also why no eye protection?

    • @MakingMadeSimple
      @MakingMadeSimple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed - I definitely should have! I use clamps now + eye protection now. I think I took more risks initially because I didn't have the proper accessories, but I've changed that.

      I'll second this, also while cutting with the circular saw... Clamp clamp clamp!

    Omgggggggg, that’s me!
    I double checked if I had said muscular and you were sparing me embarrassment, it does sound like something I would say.
    Thanks again for gift! It’s a beauty!

      Haha, that's what I was going to reference yesterday towards the end of the night!
      Thanks for everything that you do, brother!

    Look after your hands buddy.! Fix that timber down before routing it only takes one whoopsie 👍 also you can use a marking knife to lay out your lighting bolt then finish it off with a chisel after router🤘

      Thanks a ton! This was a while back, so I was still learning! But you're definitely right! I would have taken a much different approach now! 😃. Thanks for watching!

    Instead of a lightning bolt could I do a circle dip so a pop socket would fit??

    • @MakingMadeSimple
      @MakingMadeSimple  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically you could! But I don't think the wireless charger would work in that case. ☹️

    This is probably already in the comments somewhere, but you could and perhaps should use a Stanley knife/blade to score along the outside edge of the design. This separates the fibers of the wood and allows for a much cleaner routed edge. Also, the dead centre of the board can be found by just drawing two intersecting lines from corner to corner. They will meet in the dead centre. I would also consider securing the block while routing (Clamp or double sided tape perhaps?). You will have much better control over the tool when you only need to concentrate on the router and where it is cutting. Overall, great job.

      Great point! I don't know why I made that so complicated. Makes total sense to find the middle that way! Haha.
      And you're 100% correct! I think I took more risks back then because I simply didn't have the setup to do things the right way. But I'm much better about securing things down now. All valid points - I appreciate you watching!

    You earned a sub my friend. I’m not a woodworker but want to get into the craft as I have lots of little niche areas around my flat that I can place storage but it would have to be bespoke

      I truly appreciate the view and subscription, thank you so much!
      I'm relatively new to woodworking, but I have a lot of fun doing it. If you have the opportunity, I'd encourage getting more into it 😃

    Nice one! Easy home-made gift ideas. Thanks also for reading out the text messages from your friend....letter for letter. Thorough! 😀

      Thank you very much for watching! I like homemade gifts as well, so I felt this would be a cool one to make!
      Thank you! Haha, I mostly did that so I could mess around and throw in the comment that he didn't actually say. 😆

    How thick should be the wood? For charging?

    • @MakingMadeSimple
      @MakingMadeSimple  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The entire board is about 3/4" thick, and the actual wood/epoxy piece above the charging pad is no more than 1/4 of an inch thick 😃

    Not a comment on the craftsmanship itself, but wireless charging is probably one of the most pointless and useless technologies introduced. You plug in the charger and then put your phone on it instead of just plugging in your phone. A whole .75 seconds saved.

      Hey, thanks for watching! So I see two sides to it. I can't remember the last time I charged with a cable, and that feels pretty great. I used to hate having to look for the dangling cable at the bedside. It's nice to have a little station where I can just set the phone down, quick and easy. I agree that it's not anything life-changing. But I do like the idea of not having to reach for the cable.
      Super useful for those cars that have it built in as well. Especially if you want to avoid clutter and be able to set your phone down quick and easy.
      I've also thrown away a lot of cables from the simple wear and tear of inserting and removing the charger from the port. On the other hand, all my wireless chargers are still running strong.
      That being said, cables can charge the phone a lot faster. So I'd say it really comes down to preference 🙂

      One time i could see it be really useful is for a fully waterproof flashlight or something of the like. It can also save damage to devices in chaotic environments.

    • @MakingMadeSimple
      @MakingMadeSimple  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate it!!! I got a little tired of looking at traditional chargers, so this was a fun way to change it up a little. I think it makes the charger look more like a decorative piece than a charger, haha.

    I was hoping the lightning icon would glow but...

    • @MakingMadeSimple
      @MakingMadeSimple  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did think about that, but I don't think there's any feasible way to do it 😕.

    • @thansamenel5651
      @thansamenel5651 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The color of icon is milky or something and a led smd

    • @MakingMadeSimple
      @MakingMadeSimple  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thansamenel5651 I see what you mean, but it does look a little different in person. I think the LED idea would be really cool, but we also have to think about the implications. For example, if this is going to be next to you when you sleep, you might not want the icon to glow all the time. And if the lightning bolt only glows when the phone is charging, you wouldn't really be able to see it anyway, since the phone would be on top of it.

      @@MakingMadeSimple The first, i want to say i am not good at english so sorry about that...
      I understand what you say. I mean when you charge your phone, it's not needed and when you don't, it's like a decoration. I come from Vietnam, a Southeast Asia country, we always turn on the small lamp (

      @@thansamenel5651 No worries at all, I'm not that great myself, haha.
      Exactly! It's kind of hidden in a way, so I wonder if it would be worth the work. I will say though, the bottom does glow when this is in a dark room (for a few seconds when you first charge your phone). It provides a floating effect
