    Hi, thanks for all of the information. I'm a fly fisherman usually but fancied something different for the winter. Your videos inspired me to go out and have a go. I've caught a few Jacks and some perch. Great fun watching the pike nail the white shads and 9.5 cm 4Plays at the margin. Looking forward to your next vids.

      Great to hear that Paul, glad you got something good out of it. Makes a change to target another fish on a new method. I've got myself a fly rod and will be having a go at that myself this year.

    Cheers again Paul, very generous info for a tight arsed Yorkshireman like me. I must confess I am reeled in like a minnow when it comes to buying any kind of new gear. I just automatically think I need everything. I totally resent whatever the prices are though LOL. Great that you are considering doing a vid on rods. I am keen to know what will work and what won't. Some light rods are particularly cheap, like 25 quid for a Shakespear. All the best for the new year. your a diamond.
    Robin.

      nosineb nowt wrong with being a tight arse at all mate. We're not like those rich southerners bathing in money we have to look after it. lol. Don't worry, I'm as daft with lures as everyone else. I never just take five lures with me as when ever I try to cut down, you can guarantee that very next session I'm thinking "oh I know which lure will work" and then find I've left it home to travel light. I think I've had 16 lures turn up over the last two weeks that I've bought. Not used any of them yet. lol. I'll have a little think on rods and dig some stuff out, and I'll try to cover plenty of stuff. Good thing about those £25 rods is that if it's not quite right, it didn't cost much and if you break it, it didn't cost much! lol. One thing you'll get from me is honest, no tarty opinions. I'm not scared to use a £1 spinner, or a second hand reel or a £25 rod. The fish don't know any different.

      River Piker have you done one of these of the bigger lures, 40g+ ? jerk baits ect! me and a mate thrashed weirwood rez today, his on deads and live baits, im smashing the water to a foam with everything i have in the box....nothing! apart from a mildly twisted knee and a sprained thumb from when i went over on some ice covered concrete lol!....oh well happy days! nobody else on the boats or bank had anything as im aware, oh well,always next time.

      Sounds like everyone had it tough mate but at least you got a story to tell with the knee and thumb! Make it a good story and people will forget you blanked. lol
      I've not done a top 5 but I did a big lures video ages ago. Video 31 or this link if it works. I'll do a top 5 though, on my list.

    Another decent lure vid, thanks, Any chance you could do a video about what rods to use for piking? I'm looking for a new rod for lures and dead/twitching, it's hard to find decent vids on rod choices.

      Thanks matey. Sure can do. I kind of had something like that in my head so I'll make a point of doing one. Cheers for the suggestion!

    top video mate, this one and the last, ive not been lure fishing very long only started season before this and this is helpfull stuff mate, especially in the last vid about setting up for were you fishing eg if its snaggy. I got some 6lb fluorocarbon and some new jigs (3 and 5 g ) and some 3 and 4 inch kopyto shads hoping to get i perch or 2 on a still water near me and twice i got snagged and twice i lost new shad and jig. i wont be doing that again. Wire trace and 20lb braid on their from now on.

      Glad to be of help mate. If you go on some forums etc, you might be told 20lb braid and the wire trace is too much. Different opinions. You've seen my results so have no need to worry you will be putting the fish off. If you are losing too many lures you have to step up. I fish a place which I never snag, so happy to use 10lb braid there, helps cast a bit further. Still use the same 20lb trace. If you haven't bought the braid, get in touch with Martin at LureLounge. He sent me some Titan braid to try out. Really good stuff, stronger than my old 20lb Power pro but much thinner diameter. Bends hooks out for fun and you can cast further without trying. Learnt me something about braid choice. He might be putting it on the website soon so you could use that 15% off code.

      Thanks for that pal appreciated i have berkley fireline on at the min but i will keep that up my sleeve haha, ive fished mainly canals and some still waters and ive got snagged at least once and more on every one. Goes with the territory i suppose, top vids though mate, missus is getting me a go pro for my birthday so you might see my channel on here soon.
      Ill nick all your ideas obviously haha only kidding

      Hazard of the job are the snags. Summer is better as fish are higher up and you don't have to get the lures down so much. Always room for more channels on this here youtube thingy. Looking forward to what you come up with.

    Good video! Just wish I'd seen it before I bought lots of lures lol. I just got myself a chatterbait (from lure lounge) but it didn't come with a soft plastic body like yours in the video. Do I need to buy one? If so, any suggestions which kind and where from?

    • @riverpiker
      @riverpiker  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ha ha. Don't worry I have a million more lures, it's an addiction you'll never kick. No you don't need to buy anything else. There's a few types of those chatterbait, but the blade bit is the key part. Some have skirts, some go with shads/soft plastic and some go with skirt and shad. I have one without a rubber too. You can fish it as it is or you can add a curly tail grub or anything. Don't be afraid to try things out on the bank and see if it makes a difference.
